How to remove varnish from wood or furniture at home. Washing for varnish.

Why do we need to remove varnish from a tree?

First of all, it should be understood that removing varnish from a tree is necessary in order to completely expose the surface of the tree and then using various means to update its texture and give the old furniture an elegant look, thereby turning it into an antique value.

Before removing the varnish from the wood, it is necessary to understand that this procedure requires patience and is carried out very carefully, in several approaches, since any, even the slightest, damage to the wood is unacceptable.

Below we will consider how to remove varnish from furniture under these conditions, while drawing attention to the fact that the task is complicated by the high volatility of the substances used for this purpose. Also we will mention high-temperature methods, under which one should be extremely cautious.

Use of a rinse aid for wood

Traditionally, so-called rinsing is used to remove old varnish from wooden surfaces - a special means for removing varnish from a tree. For a single call, the old lacquer coating can not be removed in a qualitative way, and you should be patient in advance.

For the entire surface to be treated, we will make a "compress" - first with a brush, apply a large amount of washing, and then, if possible, more carefully wrap the treated areas of furniture in polyethylene film. This is necessary in order to protect the volatile wash from rapid drying.

In a day, the "compress" can be removed, but before removing the old varnish from the tree, carefully try to perform this procedure with a spatula in some small area - it is quite possible that another day will have to impose a new "compress".

For the processing of relief details, the spatula is more conveniently replaced with a metal brush or knife.

As a result, it is possible, repeated repetition of this procedure on the surface, a layer of a mixture of softened varnish and chemicals is formed. Before removing the varnish from the tree, carefully remove the layer with a spatula and then carefully rinse it in warm water to finally free the surface of the wood from the old varnish. After performing this procedure, the wood should be allowed to dry for at least 24 hours.

Other ways to remove varnish from a wood

Speaking about how to remove an old varnish from a tree, it is necessary to mention also a roasting at which the layer is softened by a blowtorch or a technical hair dryer. At the same time, care should be taken to ensure that the treated surface is not charred. Small individual areas are heated up to the melting of lacquer, which is immediately removed with a spatula.

If the coating has started to smoke or bubble, this is a sure sign of overheating, and work should be suspended to avoid charring. The old coating can also be removed mechanically - by grinding skins or by a cycle. With this method, care should be taken to avoid damaging the wooden surface of the furniture.

It is appropriate to mention the so-called "wet" method, when before removing the old varnish, the surface to be treated is wetted with a damp sponge and then sanded with sandpaper. With periodic wetting during the grinding process, the varnish turns into a thick slurry, which is not difficult to remove. After removing the varnish, the surface is wetted with a damp sponge and after drying, the last time is treated with fine-grained emery paper.

And, finally, another way - removing the old coating with a grinder and then processing with a large sandpaper. However, it should be borne in mind that with this approach to keep the surface of the wood intact is unlikely to succeed.
