Features of production

Ceilings are manufactured in two ways depending on the material used:

  1. When using PVC film, the size of which is 1.5 m, several fragments are connected by welding. The number of film sheets depends on the size of the ceiling. At the same time, the seams at the joints are absolutely invisible. The fragments are stitched together sufficiently, which allows to maintain the integrity of the coating for a long period of time.
  2. In the manufacture of a polyester-based polyester-coated web, the coating in most cases has no seams, as the width of the material reaches 5 m. The fabric is stitched if the ceiling is larger than this value in its dimensions.

The pattern for polyvinylchloride and polyester canvas is also applied by different methods. The first material is painted during the manufacturing process, the second - after installation with the help of special paints. Aluminum or plastic profiles are also used for mounting. These elements are divided into three types depending on the attachment point:

  • universal;
  • wall;
  • ceiling.

Suspended ceilings. Advantages of stretch ceiling constructions

The use of such products in the design of the room has a number of undeniable advantages, which boil down to such aspects:

  1. The installation of a hanging ceiling allows to eliminate various defects and get a perfectly flat surface.
  2. Ceilings have high strength, they are able to withstand 100 kg of weight per 1m2.
  3. Resistance to moisture. In case of flooding, the material can bend under the weight of water to the floor level without compromising integrity. After pumping out the moisture, the coating will take its original form, without the need for repair. This property allows you to install such ceilings in rooms with a high level of humidity.
  4. Ceilings of tension type create heat and soundproof effect.
  5. Also these designs are resistant to fire, so they can be installed in rooms with increased fire hazard.
  6. With the help of suspended ceilings, you can visually adjust the room. For example, if a room has low ceilings, an attached structure will help visually increase the space.
  7. Another important advantage of this coating is the ease of installation. For example, suspended ceilings from gypsum board are distinguished by a more complicated installation process. The work involves a significant amount of construction debris and the need to clean the room of furniture, which is a certain inconvenience. The use of plastic material does not imply such features.
  8. Among the advantages of suspended ceilings a special place is occupied by their aesthetic characteristics. Today there is a large selection of colors and textures of canvases. The consumer has the opportunity to install a ceiling that simulates marble, wood, metallic or other materials.

It is worth noting that a wide variety of color solutions makes it possible to create a design in any style direction. The most popular is the effect of the starry sky. To achieve it, two methods are used. The first is based on the use of a light generator and light guides, the second - on LEDs. The color of the material does not fade with time, which will keep the coating in its original form for a long period of time.

Methods for fixing the ceiling

There are three options for attaching an attached structure. Let's consider each of them in more detail:

  1. The first one is called the harpoon method. It is used when working with polyvinyl chloride film. In this case, fasteners in the form of a harpoon are used, which are fixed along the edges of the web. Further, these hooks cling to the aluminum baguette, as a result of which the film is stretched. The canvas should be slightly smaller than the ceiling, by about 7%.
  2. The staggering method is based on the use of a wooden bead and an aluminum profile of a U-shape. Fixing the canvas to the profile is carried out by means of a special tape, due to which the tension of the coating is provided. In the process of work, you need to make sure that the glazing bead does not jump out of the groove.
  3. The clip method is used when installing ceilings from polyester. In this case, unlike the previous two options, you need to use a plastic profile. This method is convenient in that it does not require an accurate measurement of the web, since it must be larger than the ceiling. After stretching, the excess should simply be cut off.

Preparatory stage

Before making a suspended ceiling, you need to take measurements. When performing this work, you must observe the maximum accuracy, since the design will depend on the results. It is necessary to prepare a sheet of paper for applying the scheme and perform such manipulations:

  1. Initially, it is necessary to determine the perimeter of the ceiling and apply the data sheet.
  2. Then all the diagonals of the surface are measured. This is done in the following way: the distance from each angle to the other available angles is determined.
  3. The received data are fixed in the drawing.
  4. After the surface dimensions of the ceiling have been determined on the scheme, it is necessary to place the locations of doors, windows, and communications.
  5. This will help in the process of work to optimally place the seams of the canvas.

How to make a suspended ceiling with your own hands

Attaching a stretch ceiling is not the most difficult task that even an amateur can handle, taking into account such features of the workflow:

  1. Initially, the profiles should be fixed. You need to fix these details along the entire perimeter of the surface.
  2. Prior to this, it is recommended to align them by level. The length of the profile elements should be 2 cm less than the side of the ceiling.
  3. When working with low ceilings, the fastening can be done at any time, this will help to keep several centimeters. But in the event that the size of the luminaire exceeds the height of the profile, then a certain distance from the ceiling still needs to retreat.
  4. Not always the profiles fit well in the corners. If there is such a problem, you need to cut them at 45 °.
  5. To do this, use a ruler to measure the height from the bottom of the baguette by a distance of 0.5 cm. Then cut off the profile at the desired angle from this mark.
  6. Next, you can proceed to commit. In the process of screwing the baguette to the wall, it is necessary to track its location. This is done using a level.
  7. The distance between the fastening elements depends on the material from which the surface is made. If the walls have a metal or tile covering, the fixing step should be 12 cm. When working with a brick, concrete or plasterboard surface, a distance of 8 cm is observed.
  8. Subsequent installation of suspended ceilings involves the installation of racks on which the fixtures will be located. The work should begin with the definition of the location of the bulbs.
  9. Then the racks are mounted to the surface of the ceiling, then power is supplied to them. In this case, it is recommended to mount concealed wiring, since in this case the communication will be protected by the finishing material from various influences from the outside. In addition, this wiring will not affect the interior of the room.
  10. This process involves the following:
  • must first be made in the walls of the groove( strobes).To do this, you need to use a perforator with a nozzle in the form of a chisel or blade, a drill or a channel chisel. In the absence of these tools, a Bulgarian fitted with a disc for concrete is suitable;
  • with its help it is necessary to cut out two lines located parallel to each other. Grooves are made according to pre-prepared markings.
  1. The wiring is fixed by means of special clamps. They, in turn, are fastened by means of a dowel of nails.
  2. Next, you need to install sockets and junction boxes. The recesses for the sockets are made with the help of a perforator, on which a special nozzle is worn.
  3. Then the prepared places should be cleaned and moistened, then greased with alabaster or gypsum. The junction box is installed in almost the same way, with the only difference being that it has a different shape and dimensions.
  4. Next, using a laser or plumb line, you should project the points on the floor that correspond to the center of the fixtures. This will be required to determine the location of the luminaires after the web tension, which will close the racks. It should be remembered that for suspended ceilings it is impossible to use lamps whose power exceeds 60 W.
  5. The next stage is the installation of the fabric. The work begins with the angle indicated in the diagram. Fastening is performed by fixing the locks on the profiles. On each side of the corner is attached 15 cm canvas.
  6. Then the film needs to be pulled on the fixing baguettes. Preliminary it should be warmed up. For small-sized cloths, you can use a conventional hairdryer, in other cases, a construction-purpose hair dryer or a gas generator.
  7. When heated, the area of the material is increased by 10%, as the coating cools, the coating will shrink and thus a flat surface is formed. But when performing this procedure, it is necessary to observe the measure, it is not worth overheating the film.
  8. If the material has a varnish surface, it should be "glazed".This process is performed using a hair dryer, which you need to drive through the film until its surface becomes shiny. As a result of this procedure, the appearance of the ceiling will significantly improve.
  9. After the hinged ceiling has been installed by its own hands, it can be seen with creases. To remedy the situation, the coating should be heated again. If after that not all the defects have disappeared, do not worry, after a certain period of time, the coating will become even.
  10. At the final stage of mounting the film, it must be heated for the last time within 20 minutes. After cooling the canvas, ventilate the room.
  11. Now go to the installation of spotlights. This will require marks that were previously made on the floor. Using a laser, you need to find the middle of the lamp on the canvas and mark these places with a marker.
  12. Next, take the ring fixtures and apply the cyanoacrylate adhesive onto them.
  13. These elements are then glued to the surface of the ceiling. The previously marked point should be centered. It is also necessary to ensure that the ring is completely connected to the web by means of glue.
  14. Next, you must wait until the glue dries well.
  15. After that, a fragment of the film is cut inside the ring. As a result, an opening is formed through which the height of the luminaire can be adjusted. Then you need to screw in the bulbs, and this completes the work.

Recommendations for the

process In order to assemble the stretch ceiling as accurately and effectively as possible, it is necessary to take into account such aspects:

  1. Cloth should be stored in a warm place, after removing the packaging material from it.
  2. Do not put any items on the tape.
  3. As a result of transportation or long-term storage, creases may form on the web. This will not affect the quality of the material, but in its normal state the film will come after a period of six months.
  4. It should also be taken into account that large-sized coatings are prone to sagging.
  5. The plastic suspended ceiling has a rather high strength, but at the same time it can be damaged by cutting and pricking objects. Therefore, when working with this material should be careful.
  6. If the damage could not be avoided, this should not be a cause for concern, as the stretch fabric can easily be repaired.
  7. Material contamination should be avoided. During operation, it is not necessary to bring heating devices to the film for a short distance.

Conclusion

Stretch ceilings have high aesthetic properties. With the help of such a finish, you can significantly transform the interior, make the design of the room original and aesthetic. In addition, these ceilings are quite functional. They are resistant to a variety of effects, as well as fireproof. This makes it possible to mount the coatings in rooms where there is a likelihood of a fire. The installation process involves several steps and is fairly easy to learn. Therefore, in order to supplement the interior with suspended ceilings, it is not necessary to have a qualified knowledge.
