In this article we will look at how to make an electric floor under the tile with your own hands. Heated electric floor heating can be an excellent addition to the basic heating system in your room. They can be used in cases where, for one reason or another, the main heating system does not work. In addition, the heated electric floor may well be an independent means of heating the premises, which will allow you to come up to the design of the room in a new way, getting rid of the radiators that are conspicuous in the eyes.
In any case, the heated electric floor creates a heating zone in the immediate vicinity of the floor. This is especially important for those rooms where you have to walk barefoot on the floor, for example, in bedrooms or in bathrooms.
In addition, heated electric floor will be indispensable in children's rooms, because the child spends a lot of time in the game directly on the floor.
You can mount a heated electric floor heating under any final floor covering, including a tile, for example in the bathroom.
Construction of an electric warm floor is possible with your own hands, without involving third-party specialists.
Basic modifications of electric underfloor heating
Now ready-made sets of electric floor heating for the following basic modifications are offered on the market: infrared film and heating cable, which can be arranged in special mats.
Infrared electric warm floor under the tiles with your own hands
Installing the infrared electric underfloor heating under the tile should not cause you any particular problems.
- The first thing to do is to level the floor using the usual procedure.we advise you, when leveling the floor around the perimeter of the room, to place a damping tape that will prevent damage from the temperature deformation of the screed mass.
- In the next step, roll out the heat-reflecting material over the leveled surface.
- To heat insulation sheets with liquid nails, attach the infrared warm electric floor, pull out its cables through a special shroud to the thermostat.
- Directly on the film floor can be placed temperature sensors, the wiring to which you need to be carried out in a protective corrugated pipe.
- Carry out a floor test by plugging it into a network with a minimum load and gradually increasing it to maximum.
- Place a moisture-proof sheet above the warm floor.
- Place a reinforcing mesh with a small step on the film of the warm floor.
- The ceramic tile and porcelain stoneware can be glued to the existing structure using the usual procedure.
Electric floor heating from the cable for tiles with own hands
We prepare the base
- If the room does not plan to install additional heat sources, except for the warm floor, then the surface of the base must be well insulated. This is especially true if your room is directly above unheated rooms.
- Prepare a surface, fill a large hole with a mortar, cover the floor with a priming solution to improve adhesion and prevent the formation of mold.
- Place the expanded polystyrene sheets on the prepared coating. It is desirable that they have a metallized layer reflecting the heat rays.
- In normal rooms for insulation, 30 mm slabs are sufficient, but if you insulate a balcony or a loggia - use 50 mm slabs, but if there is a common soil under your room - the thickness of the slabs must be at least 100 mm.
- Attach the plates to the floor with self-tapping screws.
- On top of the insulation boards place the reinforcing fastening mesh, attach it with long self-tapping screws of a large length with wide washers, so as to create additional fasteners of expanded polystyrene plates.
We measure the heating cable
- The drawing of the room for calculating the required length of the electrical cable can be made in scale on millimeter paper. Mark large unmoving furniture on the drawing.
- Proceeding from the necessary heating power, indicated in the characteristics of the heating cable and having receded at least 5 centimeters from the perimeter - draw a scheme for placing the heating cable. When calculating the length of the cable, be aware that the only or additional source of heating will be your warm floor.
- When calculating the required length, consider the characteristics of the cable. It happens with one residential unit, which connects to the network at both ends or with two cores - in this case it connects to the wiring with only one end.
We prepare the control equipment for the electric underfloor heating
1. The regulation of the heat flux produced by the electric heated floor is regulated by the thermostat. They come in various modifications( electronic and mechanical) and designs( overhead and recessed).
2. The location for the thermostat is selected near the main line. In the event that the thermostat has a remote temperature sensor, check the length of its cable and select the location for the control device.
3. The built-in thermostat is installed in the rod, also the cables of the electrical wiring and the temperature sensor are placed in the stub.
4. To protect the temperature sensor from the external effects of the screed, we place it in a corrugated tube, the end of which is tightly packed with an insulating tape. The remote part of the sensor should be located about 40 cm from the wall.
We lay the heating cable of the warm electric floor
- The heating cable is fixed to the fastening grid according to the chosen gasket scheme. We fix the heating cable with plastic clips.
- Connect the thermostat to the heating element. Test its performance first at maximum power, bringing it to maximum.
- Leave the heated floor in working condition for a while.
- Disconnect power to the heated electrical floor.
Laying the tile on a warm electric floor
- Place a second mesh on the heating cable. So it will be easier to lay tiles.
- With the usual tile glue lay on the floor tiles or porcelain stoneware.
