Than dilute linseed oil at home?

Homemade mixture preparation

A drying oil for the manufacture of oil and acrylic paints and for their dilution is used. Also some types of material are used for impregnating and priming wooden surfaces. For home use it can be made by yourself. Consider how to make linseed oil.

Natural is made by heat treatment at a temperature of 250 degrees Celsius with the gradual addition of desiccants. For this, linseed, hemp and other refined drying oils are used. Siccatives are lead-manganese or manganese-lead-cobalt linoleates. Polymerization is carried out in steel reactors, which are adapted to introduce desiccants.

Castor varnish is made by polymerization of castor oil and esterification with glycerin. Further, the resulting mixture is dissolved in white spirit with the addition of a desiccant. In the composition of this mixture is:

  • 50% castor oil;
  • 46% of prepared castor oil;
  • 4% white spirit;
  • siccatives( lead, manganese, calcium).

There is a separate group of materials called synthetic linseed oil. They are by-products of petrochemical industries, which have the property of drying to form a film. The quality of such materials is low, and they are used for not too responsible works. Because of poor quality in everyday life, they are not very common. In this regard, to produce such a mixture at home does not make sense, and this process is too complicated.

Note! Using synthetic linseed oil, it is necessary to follow the manufacturer's instructions strictly, as it has a limited scope.

Than to dilute linseed oil and whether it is necessary to do it?

Since the drying oil has the property of congealing, it often becomes necessary to dilute it. However, many experts say that this is pointless. This is due to the fact that the material that has already entered the stage of polymerization from oxidation with oxygen, will not have its original qualities. The oil must by itself be fluid and oxidize only on the applied surface. But many home craftsmen think otherwise and bred it for later use.

Before starting the mixture, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the composition. Since they are natural, synthetic and semi-natural, it is necessary to breed them in different ways. Natural and semi-natural mixtures are best diluted with white spirit or turpentine, while synthetic ones are diluted with a solvent. In any case, to begin with, it is better to dilute a small amount of drying oil and follow its reaction.

Important! Dilute gasoline and kerosene mixture is highly not recommended.

We make silver

Oleksa is often used for dilution of silver. This is an aluminum powder, which is produced by grinding. It perfectly lies and protects the surface. Let's consider how to dilute silverskin with linseed oil. For dilution, use materials in a ratio of 1: 4 or 1: 3, that is, a liter of drying oil should account for 250-350 grams of silver. To obtain a homogeneous mass, firstly a silverstone is poured into the container, and only then the diluent gradually pours in. All work should be done with thorough mixing of the mixture.

Important! Do not use natural varnish for thinning, since the composition will worsen its coating properties.

Also often the question arises about the sequence in which different materials are applied. So, varnish on varnish can be put for greater protection of the surface. If you do not need a serious surface protection, then you can not open it with varnish. And, on the contrary, if protection of a varnished surface is required, it is possible to cover it with linseed oil.
