Drains are galvanized, what is special about them?

To date, rain drainage systems are available to you simply from galvanized steel and with an additional polymer coating. First, let's look at exactly what this material can attract attention to. First and foremost, it is fireproof. Agree, if you have all the funds invested in a country house in which you plan not to rest by hiking, but to live all year round, it is very important to protect it from fire as much as possible. Drain galvanized metal will be the right choice.

Sheet steel without polymer coating has very low noise insulation, when installing conventional metal gutters in the house, the sound of rain and even wind will be clearly heard.

The second positive quality is also very important - very high strength with relative ease, namely - up to 490 MPa, with a specific gravity of 7.85 g / cm3. Only titanium-zinc alloy gutters are more durable, but they are incommensurably more expensive, more than 10 times .Gutter systems of galvanized with a polymer coating are not inferior to plastic in durability, because they have enhanced protection against corrosion. Admittedly, without such additional screening, rust begins to corrode the metal in 5 years.

Gutter systems from galvanized steel - what should I fear?

In itself, galvanizing, as already mentioned, is short-lived, especially if favorable conditions for various types of corrosion are being developed. In particular, when there are scratches on the surface of the galvanizing, rust appears over time. However, not only permanent exposure to moisture can cause damage, when in contact with other metals, even slightly damaged gutters made of galvanized steel can undergo electrochemical corrosion. The reason for this is the potential difference between some metals. For example, it is highly not recommended to install drainage systems from galvanized steel under a copper roof.

There is such a type of destructive effect as bitumen corrosion. It arises due to the active action of sunlight and moisture on the soft roof with a bitumen base. Unfortunately, this material, with all its excellent waterproofing properties, splits and forms an acid reaction to a pH of -22. As a consequence, conventional galvanized metal does not stand such a test, and even the polymer coating does not save, the best option in this case is aluminum orstainless steel. Therefore, drainage systems made of galvanized steel are better to install with an identical roofing.

Gutter drainage system zinc-plated - selection criteria

You can choose metal gutters by shape, and if they are coated with a polymer coating, then by color. As for the form factor, the trays are semicircular, rectangular( square) and relief, the corresponding shape should be used brackets and plugs. However, the drainage system galvanized consists not of only gutters, the pipes also differ in cross-section, you can choose a round or square version.

All elements are usually made in a general style, that is, when the pipe is square, then the drainage funnel is galvanized the same. However, unlike plastic kits, the metal gutters do not join the funnel, but hang over it so that the jets of water fall right into the muzzle. With regard to fasteners, metal gutter system is also more advantageous, steel has higher rigidity than plastic, and brackets can be placed at a greater distance. If for polymeric rain drain the holders are installed with an interval of 60 centimeters, for metal ones, this distance can be extended to 90 .
