Under the name "hardboard" is meant a finishing material. Its structure is woody-fibrous, fairly firm. Sometimes in everyday life so called and soft plates. However, all the same, the correct use of this term will be in relation only to slabs and hard sheets. The board can be used, for example, in the manufacture of furniture, packaging, finishing door openings. The product of tile "format" is used for decoration of ceilings and walls of rooms, for flooring. This material is better known as fiberboard. But the sheet products are similar to plywood.
The raw material for the production of hardboard is waste from wood processing( shavings, sawdust, small chips).With the method of hot pressing, all this( suitably prepared) mass is converted into building and finishing material. The technology of production provides protection of production from moisture, fire, putrefaction. For this, various additives( flame retardants, antiseptics, rosin, paraffin) are added to the raw material. To increase the strength of the material, it is also subjected to impregnation with a special substance - pectol.
One side of the finished hardboard can be "rough", and the other - smooth. Such hardboard is used where, according to the installation technology, gluing is provided."Rough" surface provides a more reliable coupling between the materials to be bonded. However, the product is also available with two smooth sides. One of them is often laminated( covered with a protective film).
Standards and labeling of orgalite
There are certain standards for sheets of hardboard. Length - in the range from 1.2 m to 6 m, and width from 1 m to 2 m. The most popular are the sheets with dimensions of 2750 x 1220 and 2140 x 1220( mm).
Thickness varies:
- 2;
- 5;
- 3.2;
- 4;
- 5;
- 6;
- 7( mm).
When buying material, it is necessary to look at its marking. GOST 4598-86( it does not have the name "hardboard" in it, there is a fiberboard) divides the product according to the characteristics of the brands. Here are some of them:
- T - solid;
- ST - increased strength( super-hard);
- STS - it's the same, only with the ennobled face( coating layer);
- HT - reduced hardness( semi-solid).
When choosing an orgalite, you need to consider for what purposes it will be used. If the material is needed, for example, for rough surface design, it makes sense to buy a cheaper option( less hard brand).For exterior decoration is better suited laminate hardboard, although it is more expensive.
If it has to be glued, then it is necessary to focus on such recommendations for the application of the adhesive:
- for concrete and plaster surfaces - mastic, diphenol or coumarone;
for wooden structures - casein glue, carpentry;mastic rosin or casein.
