Many homeowners consider water-heated floor as an effective replacement for a conventional heating system. Indeed, the heated floors create in the room a special picture of the distribution of heat flows, following the popular formula that prescribes keeping your feet warm and your head in the cold. Especially relevant is the water heating system, located in the floor, for bathrooms and rooms where children live.

The heated floor system can be installed in any room area. Before you begin the installation - you need to calculate the required length of the pipes. For this, you can draw a diagram on millimeter paper. Note that the distance between the pipelines should be about 10 centimeters, at the same distance the pipes should be located and from the walls.

For buildings in cold climatic zones, a "snake" arrangement is recommended, it ensures minimal heat loss.

When calculating the system it is necessary to take into account that the length of one circuit of a water heating system in the floor can not exceed 60 meters, therefore for large premises it will require several circuits.

The inlet and outlet pipe ends of each of the water heating circuits must be connected to the water manifold, which distributes the flow of coolant from the main. It is mounted in a wall cabinet or in a special niche.

Depending on the design of your home, you can use three basic methods of installing a warm water floor in your home.

  • If you are repairing a capital building with concrete slabs, then the pipes of the warm floor system can be laid directly in the thickness of the leveling screed.
  • In the event that the heating system is mounted in light frame structures - the pipes can be laid in the slots of the slabs of the thermal insulation layer.
  • When building or repairing a wooden house, the pipes of the system can be placed in the space between the lags or directly in the thickness of the modular wooden floor.

Preparing the surface

In the preparatory phase, clean the surface of the floor, remove the debris and fill with a solution large "pits".

On the perimeter of the room near the walls it is necessary to fix the damping tape. It removes the thermal expansion of the screed.

Overlapping the house must be waterproofed. Use a thick polyethylene film, fastened with adhesive tape or insulating solution.

To prevent heat loss, it is necessary to place thermal insulation on the surface of the floor. It can have a special aluminum layer for reflecting heat rays.

To fix the coolant pipes we place the reinforcing mesh on the heat insulation layer. In the event that increased thermal insulation is not required - the grid can be placed directly on the waterproofing.

  1. Attach the pipes of the coolant of the water-floor system to the reinforcing mesh clamps, placing them in steps of approximately one meter. Do not tighten tightly the yokes, leaving a small degree of freedom.
  2. We place the protection from the corrugated pipe
  3. at the inlet and outlet ends of the pipes. We connect the endings of the coolant pipe circuits to the water collector.
  4. We begin testing the system by supplying hot water with an increase in one and a half times the pressure. We leave the system in working order for a day.
  5. On successful completion of testing, we begin filling the screed. We use a special solution for the water-heated floor. The minimum height of the screed should be at least 5 centimeters, it is not necessary to disconnect the flow of the coolant.

Water heating the floor with your own hands in light structures

To facilitate the weight of the structure of the water-heated floor, I frame buildings instead of the heavy-duty screed of heating pipes directly into the slots in the plates of the thermal insulation layer. Such boards are ready-made elements, they are also equipped with heat-expansion compensation areas.

  1. As in the case of concrete, we begin with the waterproofing of the surface with a polyethylene film.
  2. Then lay the bottom heat-insulating layer.
  3. We lay the coolant pipes, guided by the chosen layout.
  4. We place the layer of thermal insulation with the prepared grooves for the coolant pipes.
  5. We connect the contours of pipes to the distributor manifold.
  6. We turn on the pressure 1.5 times more than the nominal pressure and perform the daily testing of the system.
  7. With a successful test, we begin to lay the rough floor, and then the finish coat.

The water heating system of the floor can be placed in wooden structures. There are three main ways of installing pipes in houses of this type:

Modular Heated Floor

The simplest installation is a modular floor. It consists of finished wooden elements, inside which there are grooves for the pipeline system.

1. On the prepared and leveled surface, the internal combustion engine plates of about 60 centimeters wide are laid. Between them is left a groove 5 cm wide.

2. Aluminum profile is placed in the formed grooves according to the selected layout scheme.

3. The piping system is mounted in aluminum rails.

4. After connecting the pipes to the manifold and testing the system - the flooring floor is closed with the rough floor and the finish coat.

  1. If necessary, we conduct insulation of wooden flooring,
  2. We place wooden logs, level them,
  3. We construct aluminum profile or special heat reflecting structure,
  4. We place the piping system in aluminumguides.
  5. We warm the space between profiles and lags.
  6. We connect and test the system, with good results - cover the structure with rough floor and finish coat.
