Cold welding of linoleum - professional laying at home

Cold Welding - What Is It?

Welding when laying linoleum is used for virtually all known types of PVC materials. Why are there some limitations? Everything depends on the type of linoleum: if it is without a heater or a flagstone base, then the welding of the seams of the linoleum will pass "with a bang," if all the above additions are present, the seams will grow much worse. This type of joining joints is chemically done with the help of special adhesives.

Adhesives for this process are of two types. The first type is suitable for splicing new linoleum, the second type is used for diverging seams on second-hand material. The difference between these two species is the consistency of the mixture.

Adhesive for lying material is much thicker, becausethey have to close up the "sprawling" joints, which sometimes part to a few millimeters. This glue mixture is poured into the formed gap, and it holds them together. The adhesive for new PVC coatings acts somewhat differently: it welds tightly fitted pieces, melting their edges.

Preparing for operation

There are a lot of materials on the Internet about how the welding of linoleum occurs, video lessons help to understand all the subtleties that can not be described in words.

But still, this process is so simple that many home masters have a text description of the sequence of actions.

Before you glue the linoleum with cold welding, needs to prepare the coating and the tools. It will take a knife to trim linoleum, paint tape, ruler, piece of chipboard, adhesive tape and, in fact, glue "cold welding".

First of all, it is necessary to align the contiguous edges of the material. To do this, put a PVC coating on the chipboard sheet and cut it. Many experts advise linoleum to glue to the base, which will avoid its deformation during operation, and also a more durable and reliable weld seam will be obtained.

The linoleum is adhered to the screed with special glue compounds or on double-sided scotch tape. In addition, it is desirable to glue linoleum in rooms more than 20 m², as well as in rooms with intensive traffic.

As described above, the principle of cold welding is based on chemical processes, so inaccurate use can damage the face of PVC material. To protect the outside, it is advisable to use paint tape. This adhesive tape is glued on two mating halves of linoleum.

Getting Started - Take into Account Several Features of

Now you can proceed directly to applying cold welding to the glued surfaces. To do this, uncork the tube and apply the glue mixture to the seam between the welded surfaces. It should be ensured that the composition is uniformly dosed over the entire surface of the joint.

After completion of work, you can observe that some of the adhesive composition has come out. This is normal practice, and with the removal of such surpluses it is worthwhile to wait. To do this it is necessary for several reasons:

  • the chemical processes taking place in the material require a certain time;
  • at removal of the surpluses it is possible and partial removal of the non-dried glue from the technological seam;
  • clogging of the bonded surface is possible, which reduces the quality of welding.

After drying, this seam is almost invisible from the side, provided that the edges of the linoleum are precisely matched. If something remains incomprehensible, the video "cold welding of linoleum" will dispel all questions.
