In the fight against pests, birds play a decisive role. It remains to lure them to the backyard. But how to do that? The only solution is to build a birdhouse with your own hands. Not only starlings, but also swifts, sparrows or flycatchers with pleasure will be located in the birdhouse.

Materials

Before making a birdhouse you need to take care of the material by yourself. Usually, hardwood boards are used, such as, for example, alder, oak, birch. You can not build a birdhouse for their boards of coniferous species, because they release sticky resin. It is also not recommended to build birdhouses from fiberboard or chipboard, because during their production, harmful solutions for birds are often used.

It is not recommended to make a birdhouse with your own hands from plywood. In winter, plywood with ease gives heat. Also, birds warn each other about the danger with the help of sound, and the plywood does not pass the sound too well.

It is customary to assume that the size of the birdhouse is standard: width up to 15 cm, height about 30 cm, tray thickness up to 3 cm. Large houses can accommodate a large number of chicks, but it is unlikely that parents will be able to feed them. As a result, they will grow weak and will be quickly eaten by predators around them.

Step-by-step instruction for the manufacture of a birdhouse

The necessary material for building a birdhouse by yourself: unplaned edging boards, nails, two bars, wire, carpentry glue. At the first stage, a pencil marks the floor, walls, ceiling, perch according to the drawings and diagrams on the boards.

So, after the first stage you should have 7 pieces. At the second stage structural elements are cut out. A hole with a diameter of 3-5 mm is made by a chisel or drill.

The hole must be round and should be at a height of 5 cm from the ceiling. A cat at such an arrangement will not be able to reach the chicks. At the third stage, you need to build the house.

The side walls and the front facade are secured with joinery glue. After the glue dries, the assembled frame is additionally fastened with nails or self-tapping screws. The back cover is nailed in the last turn.

It is desirable to make a roof removable, since after the birds release it, the birdhouse can be cleaned for future owners.

At the last stage the made birdhouse is screwed to the tree or wall of the house with the help of screws. If the birdhouse is placed on a tree, then it can be screwed with a wire. That the birds were comfortable, and also so that the chicks do not fall out of the house, it is attached under a slight inclination forward. The house must look to the southeast or east. You can place a house up to 5 meters high. A decorative birdhouse is built with its own hands in order to give the site its uniqueness and attractiveness.

Many people think that a bright dwelling repels birds, but this is far from being the case. Birds feel great in the original birdhouses. Do not think that after the construction of the house, the birds will immediately settle in it. Sometimes it can take more than a month, or even a year.
