However, most of the apartments are currently equipped with metal doors installed a few decades ago. They represent a simple frame from the corner with a sheet of steel welded onto it. Such models fully fulfill their function to protect housing from "uninvited" guests. But at the same time they have not quite an attractive appearance, not to mention any noise and thermal insulation. To correct this situation, if it takes place, it is quite possible independently. One of the easiest ways to improve the appearance and performance of a simple metal door is dermatine sheathing. Upholstery of the entrance metal door with this synthetic material will give it freshness, refinement, reduce heat loss. On how to make the upholstery of the metal door dermatome - next.

Characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of dermatitis

This synthetic material has been known for a long time. Several decades ago, it was difficult to find an apartment whose entrance wooden door would not have been clogged with this material. Various patterns on the door leaf were created using decorative nails with a different kind of cap.

Like most synthetic materials, dermatine has excellent performance properties:

  1. Water resistance. In addition to the fact that it does not absorb moisture, its coating can contain it without letting it in. This will perfectly protect both the insulation inside the door and its metal structures from the harmful effects of moisture.
  2. Resistant to sunlight. The material practically does not burn out in the sun, which makes it possible to use it in places of intense sunlight, for example, for upholstering the entrance doors of private houses.
  3. Resistance to microflora. Dermatin is not afraid of mold, fungus, various insects.
  4. Practicality. Upholstery can be cleaned from dermatitis by simply wiping it with a damp cloth. In addition, he perfectly tolerates cleaning chemicals.
  5. A large number of different colors. Like many synthetic materials, dermatine can be perfectly treated with chemical dyes, so manufacturers can offer the buyer a wide range of colors.
  6. Relatively low price. In comparison with other types of upholstery, dermatitis is quite a democratic price.

However, it should be noted that this material is not without flaws, among which:

  1. Highly flammable. This material burns perfectly, which can cause the spread of the fire. When burning, dermatitis, like many polymers, releases toxic fumes.
  2. Unsuitable for repair. If the dermatine coating is damaged, it can not be repaired, without detriment to appearance. In this case, the only alternative would be to replace it.
  3. Low mechanical stability. Even the densest dermatin easily tears, which can cause some problems if the house has animals.
  4. Based on the foregoing, it can be concluded unambiguously that the skin of the metal door with dermatine coating is the most optimal solution for a limited repair budget.

Preparation for upholstery of a metal door with dermatitis

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare the material and the tool. For the upholstery of a metal door, dermatitis may need:

  1. Dense sintepon, sheet foam or other material for use as a lining.
  2. Self-tapping screws, stapler, staples.
  3. A sheet of laminated fiberboard to cover the space between the door frame and the metal sheet.
  4. Adhesive universal for gluing polymeric materials.
  5. Small wooden slats. The dermatine upholstery is made on a wooden door leaf by means of a stapler. With a metal door, everything is a bit more complicated. The coating is laid in two ways:
  • is glued to the surface of the metal with glue;
  • is nailed to the crate installed on the surface of the metal sheet. It is for its construction that wooden planks are needed.

Upholstery of metal door with dermatome. Order of work

So, there is a standard door welded from corners and a sheet of metal. The order of work on its upholstery is as follows:

  1. The first stage of the work will be the dismantling of the door elements( locks and handles).Do this carefully, so as not to damage their mechanisms.
  2. When the door is ready for use, you can begin the upholstery of the inside. Initially, it is necessary to install wooden cross bars in the door frame, they will be needed to create an ornament on the surface of the dermatine.
  3. After inserting the bar into place, it is necessary to secure it with self-tapping screws. For this, a hole of the appropriate diameter is drilled through the supporting corner and a screw is screwed into it.
  4. Then a heater is placed in the cavity between the door frame and the metal sheet. The foam can be used as the last one. After the insulation, the rear wall of the door is fixed with a sheet of fiberboard. Self-tapping screws are also used for this. Further in the sheet of fiberboard, in places where wooden blocks are installed, it is necessary to drive in several nails, up to 40 mm in length. At the same time their hats bite off with the help of nippers. The hammered nails will act as a guide for the installation of decorative nails. You need to arrange them as the drawing will be located.
  5. This completes the preparatory work, you can proceed with the upholstery. The first stage is glued with 1 or 2 layers of foam rubber. On the perimeter of the back wall, the glue is applied and the insulation is leaning. At the same time, previously hammered nails should go out. After the glue dries( it takes no more than 30 minutes), with the help of a knife it is necessary to remove the remnants of foam rubber.
  6. The second layer of insulation is then glued, which is subsequently trimmed in size.
  7. The next step will be straightening. Dermatins glue to the butt end of the door. To do this, glue gently miss the surface of the ends, glue one side, then gradually, gently pull the material and glue the opposite side. This work is quite responsible and it needs to be done slowly, but it is sure that the dermatitis lay flat, without wrinkles. In the process of gluing, the corners of the material must be cut diagonally, so that they are exactly located at the ends of the door leaf.
  8. When the glue dries, you can proceed to the last stage of work with the inside of the door - decorating. To do this, you need to prepare a few narrow strips, from which will be made a patterned waist. This method is quite popular when the door is covered with dermatome. It gives the door an interesting appearance. When a strip is stretched between two nails, it makes a furrow, forming a convex pattern.
  9. By pressing on the upholstery, it is necessary to ensure that the previously hammered nails come out. Having penetrated the dermatitis, they will designate places in which decorative nails will be hammered.
  10. Then with the help of pliers it is necessary to take out nails-marks and in their place to fill decorative ones. Now you need to carefully stretch the stretch marks with decorative nails and hammer them.

Dermatitis in the outer part of the door

32

The dentin exterior of the metal door is fundamentally the same as the interior work. Usually the insulating layer is not laid on the outside, only the foam sheet is glued. If you plan to decorate the outer side of the canvas with stretches, then you will have to install several wooden strips so that decorative nails can be hammered into them.

The foam layer is glued to the surface of the door leaf and adjusted to its dimensions. Remains of material are cut with a knife. After that, start to stick the dermatitis. Just as in the case of the inner surface, for the upholstery of the front side, it is necessary to glue the ends of the door well with glue, so that the dermatina holds well. Then dermatine is applied to the surface. During the work, the material must be smoothed out so that it adheres well to the surface.

The remains of the material are cut with a knife. When the work on the upholstery is finished, the locks are again mounted on the door, the peephole and the door handle.

If the work is done correctly, when closing the door, the upholstery will act as a kind of seal that will prevent drafts from appearing.

Noise and heat insulation of the door

When you finish the metal door with dermatome, you need to pay attention to noise and thermal insulation. The fact is that the usual metal canvas very well lets sound into the room, which creates additional inconvenience. In winter, a large amount of heat will escape through such a door.

Now on the market there are many materials for improving heat-absorbing and noise-insulating properties. The most optimal solution to this problem is mineral wool plates. They have excellent operational properties, are easy to install and have a relatively low price. For noise isolation, you can use a vibration filter, which is often used to handle car interiors. To improve the noise insulation parameters, a layer of splice is superimposed over the vibrofilter. This material is produced on an adhesive basis, therefore, all you need is to remove the protective film from it and paste it.
