Single-pitched roof for a small bath is the most economical and practical solution. It does not require the installation of an expensive complex rafter system and can be made from almost any roofing material with your own hands. Particularly convenient is a single-pitched roof for a bath, attached to other buildings. In this case, a single-pitched roof can serve as a continuation of the roof of the main building.
Slope of the saddle roof is performed depending on the snow and wind load in the construction area. In regions with a significant amount of snow, the roof is made steeper, with an angle of 15 degrees, to improve the conditions for the descent and cleaning of snow. In areas with strong winds, on the contrary, the roof is made more flat.
Construction of a single-deck roof of the
bath The design of this roof is extremely simple. Slope is created due to the difference in height of two opposite walls. In this case, the roof can be made with or without an attic. In the first case, the roof simultaneously serves as the ceiling of the bath and requires filing and warming from the inside. If an attic is made in a bath with a gable roof, then horizontal ceiling beams are additionally laid for the ceiling device.
The roof itself rests on the rafters, which are laid directly on the walls of the bath in specially cut grooves. The rafters are laid in steps of 0.6-1.2 meters, a lath is put on top of the rafters, and waterproofing and roofing are laid on it.
A roof without an attic is usually performed in small summer baths with a slope length of not more than 3 meters. When the length of the slope is more than 4 meters, it is necessary to install additional supports under the rafters, the lower end resting on the beams overlapping.
Roof covering for a single-deck roof bath can be:
- Roll material: glass insulation, roofing material, soft roof;
- Profiled sheet metal: corrugated board or metal tile;
- Ondulin.
Slate and sheet metal for the roofing of a saddle roof are rarely chosen, because they have significant weight and weight the structure of the roof.
When warming the roof, fibrous incombustible materials are usually used: stone or mineral wool in the form of slabs or coils. And, if the roof is made without an attic, they insulate the roof itself, when performing an attic, it is more expedient to insulate the ceiling of the bath.
Required materials and tool
Before the construction of the roof, it is necessary to make a drawing in scale, and in terms of the dimensions of the structure, determine the difference in heights of the opposite walls of the bath, the angle of the slope, the length of the ramp, and, depending on the sizes found, calculate the material.
To make a single-pitched roof, you will need:
- Trimming board with a thickness of 40-60 mm for making rafters and beams;
- Board or waterproof plywood for carrying out a thin or continuous crate;
- Roof waterproofing;
- Roof covering;
- Edged board for filing the ceiling;
- Waterproofing film with metallized coating;
- Fibrous insulation: mineral, glass or basalt wool;
- Tool: electric jigsaw, screwdriver, knife, tape measure, hammer, construction stapler.
An antiseptic is also needed to cover wooden structures, since the bath is a premise with high humidity, and the lifetime of untreated wood is much lower.
Technology for making a single-deck roof bath
- When constructing the walls of a bath, one of the walls is made higher according to the drawing. In a rectangular bath, this usually happens to be one of the long walls, since the length of the ramp is as small as possible, which allows a more solid roof to be made with less material.
- If the roof is made with an attic, then at the level of the lower wall, grooves are made for the ceiling beams at the same distance as the rafters. In the upper beam of the high wall also grooves under the rafters. All grooves are carefully treated with an antiseptic for wood.
- In the sizes indicated on the drawing, sawing joists and rafters in the required number of thick edged boards. Their ends, which will be supported by beams, are impregnated with a polymer waterproofing mastic and wrapped with a roofing felt, laid in prepared grooves and fastened by means of pins or metal braces to the walls. The drill is laid on the upper bar - Mauerlat, and pulled together with it by means of pins and metal plates. With a slope length of more than 4 meters between the beams of the ceiling and the rafters, additional supports or struts are additionally installed.
- Sew the gable roofs with the help of the main material from which it is built or planks. For a bath with an attic in one of the pediments, a ventilation window is mandatory, as steam will accumulate under the roof, which, without airing, will lead to the formation of condensate.
- Cross the rafters from above lay a water vapor barrier film with a slight sag and fasten to the rafters with a construction stapler. Over the film to the rafters fix the bar, and on it lay a continuous crate of plywood or sparse from the board in steps of 0.3-0.6 meters. Solid crate is carried out under the soft roof, sparse - under the metal, profiled or ondulin. The roofing covering is made in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer. Metal tile or corrugated board is fastened to the crate with special screws with a sealing washer in the lower wave, creating a material overlap on one wave. Ondulin, on the contrary, is attached to the upper wave with nails with a special wide bonnet. A soft roof is fastened on a special backing layer with the help of a thermofane. The ruberoid is glued with bitumen mastic.
- Mount the cornice and windpipes, as well as the skate, while necessarily arranging the ventilation gap. If the sauna is wooded and a smoke pipe passes through the roof, special attention should be paid to the device of its passage through the roof and the floors. According to fire safety standards, the distance from the chimney must be at least 20 cm. The space between the wooden structures and the pipe is sewed with a metal box and inside is filled with non-combustible material, for example, basalt wool. From the side of the roof the pipe is removed through special pipe penetrations and waterproofing the pipes.
- chimney The warming of the roof of the bath is a prerequisite, otherwise the time to warm it up to the required temperatures is significantly increased. In the uncooked sidewalk roof, the skate itself is insulated. Do this with the help of filing insulation from the inside. Plates fibrous insulation are laid between the rafters so that no gaps remain. The recommended thickness of insulation for the central strip of Russia - from 10 cm, and in order to eliminate cold bridges, the heater should be laid in two layers so that the second layer overlaps the joints of the first one. A heater is fastened between the rafters with the help of racks, after which it is sewn with a metallized vapor barrier film, laying it with a shiny side towards the steam room. The film is fastened with a stapler to the rafters, after which the blocks are fixed over the rafters on top of it, and the covering of the steam room is fixed on them.
- In the case of the attic device, the ceiling itself is insulated. To perform the insulation of the ceiling on the beams overlapping planking the floor, sheathe it from below with a waterproofing film and stacked between the beams of the slab of the heater, in analogy with the warming of the rajids. On the side of the steam room, the vapor barrier is hemmed and the internal paneling of the bath is performed.
ceiling The single roof bath is economical and easy to use, however, if there is a need for an attic floor, such a structure is inconvenient, and it is better to make a roof gable or mansard.
