Finishing of plastic windows with your own hands

Metal-plastic windows today enjoy unprecedented consumer demand. They are not expensive, in comparison with wooden double-glazed windows, durable and well insulate the room from extraneous sounds, dust and wind.

But one correct installation of plastic double-glazed windows is not enough, often a real problem for the population is the design of the window opening, that is, the decoration of the slopes of plastic windows. Many resort to the help of professional plasterers, but such work is quite possible to do by oneself without special skills.

Types of finishing of slopes

Slopes are the surface of walls near windows. In turn, they are internal, that is, indoors, and outdoor - on the street. Look carefully neat window slopes should not only in terms of aesthetics. This is a mandatory requirement from the point of view of keeping the heat in the room, the finished slopes prevent the windows from fogging, and the foam that is closed in this way will not be absorbed by the moisture damaging to it.

Slopes from plaster

The most often the slopes are plastered. First apply a primer coat, after drying it - several layers of the plaster mixture( it can be purchased at any construction shop) until the slopes finally become even. When the plaster dries, it must be primed and painted.

The correct implementation of this procedure will take about a week, or even more. The disadvantage of slopes from the plaster is their fragility. Over the years, the plaster turns yellow and crackles.

Slopes from plasterboard

The second most popular method of finishing plastic windows inside is the covering of window openings with plasterboard. It has good thermal insulation properties, it can also be insulated. If you know the technology, then attach slopes of drywall can be a few days, in contrast to the plaster slopes.

On the drywall sheet, the measured length and width are cut using a jig saw, suitable for slopes from all sides - from the top and sides. The void between the wall and the sheet is filled with polyurethane foam, and the plasterboard itself is fixed with dowels. At the same time, there should be little space between the drywall and foam. The top slope is attached in exactly the same way. Three hours after the foam solidifies, all joints and crevices are covered with a putty solution. Metal corners are attached to protect the slices.

With the putty, the surface of the plasterboard is leveled and is polished after drying. Then it must be primed and dyed.

Drywall is durable, but it is impossible to fasten it in a room with high humidity due to its instability to moisture. Otherwise, you need to buy a moisture-resistant plasterboard.

Sandwich panel slopes

The finishing of plastic windows with sandwich panels is quick and easy. Such panels are several layers of plastic, between which is a polyurethane heater. Such panels are easy to install with their own hands, they do not require maintenance, well isolate noise and are resistant to weather changes. Before fixing the sandwich panels, the parameters of the slopes are measured, along which the strips of panels are cut out: side panels and one upper panel.

  1. With a construction knife, excess foam is cut off. Screws at the edges of the window profile fasten the starting profile of the U-shape.
  2. The top sheet of the sandwich panels is inserted into the grooves of the starting profile and fixed with screws.
  3. On both sides of the window openings, to the already existing profile, the self-tapping screws are attached 4 more profile parts. They are sandwich panels.
  4. At the edge of the window openings, an F-shaped profile is fastened to the sandwich panel, forming neat angles.
  5. If uneven joints are obtained, they can be processed with liquid plastic.

It is worth noting the advantages of finishing plastic windows with sandwich panels:

  • are resistant to sunlight, do not fade and do not turn yellow;
  • panel design allows you to finish the slopes at any angle;
  • have good sound insulation properties;
  • retains heat and does not require additional care.

Slopes from cellular plastic

It is most simple to execute finishing works of slopes with cellular plastic or a panel. It is glued to the surface of the slope.

There are a number of shortcomings of this type of slopes for ease of use. First, it is important to use a more expensive and high-quality panel. Secondly, before gluing the strip of plastic, it is necessary to additionally insulate the surface of the slope. If this is not done, the slope will freeze and form condensation. In addition, cellular plastic is limited in width, not more than 25 cm.

Slopes from plastic

Slopes from plastic are mounted quite quickly. Outwardly, they are attractive, do not burn out in the sun and are simply laundered from dirt. When installing plastic slopes use mineral wool for insulation. Such slopes can be carried out without assistance.

Window Finishing Materials

For finishing the window with plastic panels you will need:

  • plastic. Its length should be 6 m, and the thickness 8 mm;
  • U-shaped strip of plastic;
  • drill;
  • construction scissors, knife;
  • heater( mineral wool will do);
  • level( construction);
  • slats are wooden( about 1.5cm thick);
  • stapler for bonding plastic;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • white silicone.

Rules for the installation of plastic slopes

In order to properly fix the slopes of plastic it is important to observe the following order:

  1. When the double-glazed windows are already delivered, plastic profiles with gutters are fastened to the side walls along the slopes with drill, where later plastic panels will be driven.
  2. With the help of self-tapping screws, a U-shaped plastic strip is attached, along the outer perimeter of the window. Thus, to get a trough.
  3. F-shaped strip is attached parallel to the trough of the U-shaped strip with a stapler.
  4. The measured strip of plastic is installed in the grooves, and cotton is placed between the wall and the plastic.
  5. At the end of the window decoration with plastic panels, white silicone, you can gloss over the places where the joints slightly did not match.

When installing plastic windows, it is important to safely seal the seams. It is known that with prolonged contact with the external environment, destruction of the mounting foam occurs, it loses its thermal insulation properties and, in due course, the glass unit can incline. Therefore, in any case, it is necessary to carefully isolate the foam from harmful effects. A neatly finished finish of plastic windows will give them a pleasant and aesthetic appearance.

Exterior finish of plastic windows

Exterior finish of window slopes can be made in the following ways:

  1. The most popular and inexpensive way of finishing plastic windows from the outside is plastering. Having in its arsenal only a dry cement mixture, you can quickly cope with the finishing works. And for this experience in construction is absolutely not necessary.

In order to plaster the outer slope of the plastic window on its own, it is important to observe the following order:

  • with a knife is well cut off from the slope surface, sticking out the construction foam and remove the dirt. Check the level of slopes with a level. You can start plastering walls with a mixture of cement and gypsum with water;
  • additional insulation of slopes is not required, the mounting foam and so is the thermal insulator;
  • a layer of a plaster mix should cover a window frame on one and a half centimeter and completely to close foam;
  • with a wooden strip distributes the plaster layer. Angles are overwritten. When the last layer of plaster dries - the slopes can be painted.
  1. Finishing of plastic windows with PSUL tape

The abbreviation PSUL stands for polyurethane self-expanding sealing tape. This newfangled foreign invention is able to reliably protect the assembly seams from moisture, sunlight and frost. After finishing the slopes with such a ribbon, it expands, filling the free space.

From the shortcomings of PSUL it can be noted that this tape is not always available in stores.

In addition, if deep potholes have been obtained during the installation of double-glazed windows, the PSUL tape will not help to accurately trim all irregularities. Painting and processing the surface of the tape is also not desirable.

  1. Finishing of slopes with rims

The most convenient way to finish the plastic windows with the use of so-called strips. These are self-adhesive laminated or plastic strips that perfectly hide all the defects left after installing the windows. Cracks are of different widths and colors. They qualitatively close the slopes and assembly seams from frost, moisture and temperature changes. It is important only to cut out correctly and fit the frames to the dimensions of the window. In addition, this is a very inexpensive building material.

Thermal insulation of slopes

As a rule, window slopes need to be insulated when the room itself was not sheathed by a heater even when it was erected. If there is an urgent need to insulate window slopes inside, it can be done by hand, with the help of ordinary foam.

Stages of insulation of window slopes:

  • blocks of polystyrene, a thickness of about five centimeters, it is necessary to cut with a construction knife a width that should be less than the width of the slope by one centimeter;
  • on pre-plastered escarpment it is necessary to plant the sheets of foam, using the mounting foam. Polyfoam should cover the mounting seam;
  • foam also fills the joints between the foam sheets and the profile;
  • then the insulation of foam is plastered with plasterboard. It can be plastered and painted.
