Masonry chimney brick made by own hands

It's not the easiest task to arrange a brick chimney with your own hands, but you can do it if you want, because the quotations for this work are not small, and not everyone has the opportunity to pay a decent amount.

In a private house or bathhouse, which is heated by means of a stove( gas or solid fuel boiler), a chimney can not be avoided.

It does not matter whether you have a vent pipe or additional ventilation ducts in your house or bath, if a gas boiler, solid fuel boiler or stove is installed, a chimney is needed in any case.

Unfortunately, according to statistics, most fires occur due to an improperly delivered chimney system or if the required repair of a gas boiler or stove has not been made on time.

Therefore, if the structure needs repair, it is advisable not to tighten with this moment.

It is necessary not only to observe all the rules for laying, but also to use exceptionally high-quality refractory materials.

The photo below shows the options for the chimney in a private house and bath.

The most common material is brick or metal. Let's try with you, too, to construct a smoke extraction system for a brick oven.

Before constructing a design, it will be correct to examine its device from the inside.

Structure of a brick chimney

To properly perform all the work and not make mistakes in its actions, there is a scheme of the structure of the chimney system.

From the outside it may seem that this is just brickwork in the form of a pipe, but this is not so. In fact, such a chimney consists of many parts, and each part is extremely important.

But which brick is better to choose for work? The market has a large selection of this material at different rates.

To the brick for the smoke extraction system, special requirements are imposed: it must be of sufficient thickness and be fire-resistant.

These requirements are completely fulfilled by red kiln bricks made of baked clay( mortar for brickwork also should not contain combustible elements).

The prices for this brick are not small, but it also serves for a very long time.

Therefore, if you do not want to spend more time on repairs in the future, it is better to fulfill all necessary installation requirements and buy quality materials, including bricks, mortar and additional elements.

And now, let's look at the structure of the chimney in more detail:

  • Let's start with the overhead pipe located directly in the furnace. If the furnace is intended for solid fuel material, it should have a small gate( metal is used as the valve material) with an opening of 1.5 to 1.5 cm;
  • After the location of the fret is located, the diameter of the channel section remains unchanged, and the dimensions of the masonry itself expand approximately 30 cm;
  • The stack is located directly in the attic. This is an even and straight part of the pipe, which rises to the roof itself;
  • Further the design goes to the otter( the part of the pipe widening in all directions), which prevents precipitation from entering the room;
  • Above the vydro in the brick chimney have a neck;
  • The design ends with the headband attachment( the next expansion of the pipe).

At the very end of the design, a hood or flywheel is installed( metal is generally used as material, and their size is selected individually).

Fluke metal protects the headband from harmful weather phenomena and increases the draft of smoke inside the pipe. Now that we have a general idea of the structure of the chimney, let's try to assemble it.

To make it clearer, the photo below shows a detailed diagram of the structure of a brick chimney for a gas or solid fuel boiler.

Chimney in section

It should be remembered that before laying a brick chimney, it is necessary to prepare a solution of clay in advance with pure dry sand added to it( the solution must have a uniform structure).

The assembly of the structure must take place exclusively vertically and be controlled by a construction plumb on the exhaust channel.

For this, the nail is driven into the upper and lower parts of the structure, a fishing line is drawn between them, after which they will be guided by the device of the system.

The pipe is laid in compliance with all the rules of brick binding, connecting to the upper part of the furnace, gas or solid fuel boiler( in the case of a gas boiler it is also desirable to add additional ventilation ducts so that there is no smell of gas in the room.)

Video:

If in the room the ventilation ductsalready there, but the smell of gas is still worth it, then the draft does not work well or the chimney has a small size. In this case, the vent ducts can not be used for chimneys.

And if the vent ducts are located next to the chimney, they should have the same output height as the pipe itself.

We finish the masonry with the formation of a loose leaf.

We make the raspushku

To exclude the thermal effect on the flammable parts and details of the ceiling, we extend the chimney brick channel in its ceilings. We expand by applying brick or concrete.

Alternatively, it is possible to additionally insulate the passage area with special incombustible materials( it is better to use basalt mineral wool).

The insulation layer must be at least 10 cm in thickness.

When making brick outlets, the next rows of masonry are expanded by 4-5 cm.

After completing the swirl, the remaining part of the chimney( up to the roof itself) needs to be laid out just like before the expansion, checking the vertical keeping of the plumb line.

After completion of the expansion of the pipe channel, we lay all its parts with a layer of refractory material( it is better to use sheet asbestos with a thickness of at least 1 cm).

The video below shows a detailed process of masonry fretting.

Standing device

Smoothly move to the attic and start producing the riser device:

  • In order for us to take the riser to the outside of the roof, it is necessary to make a small hole in the roof;
  • The laying of the riser is carried out without unnecessary problems, since here it is not necessary to carry out additional work in order for the pipe layout to expand;
  • We bring the riser to the roof surface and smoothly move to the roof;
  • On the roof we continue laying the riser in such a way that 1-2 rows of bricks rise above the roof.

Having finished the work with the riser, we move on to the construction of the otter.

Otter laying

The chimney must have a pipe extension on the outside of the roof, which protects the top of the chimney from the adverse effects of the external environment and weather conditions.

The otter is constructed from 9 rows of bricks in such a way that each row is 1/4 wider than the previous one. At the same time, installation of brick plates mounted in the smoke channel is mandatory.

This is to ensure that the dimensions of the hole itself remain unchanged. The device of the 4th row of otter bricks assumes the arrangement of small protrusions in length.

The same protrusions are made during the laying of subsequent rows so that their size can close all possible space between the chimney and the roof.

Video:

After we perform the laying of the rear projection, thus completing the otter device( in the 8th and 9th row of bricks, a lug with a dressing is also formed).

At the same time, we should not forget that a good solution is needed for good otter fixation.

The solution is extremely easy to prepare: dry cement is mixed with a small amount of water in a ratio of 1 to 10 and thoroughly mixed( the consistency of the solution should be uniform and without lumps, then the masonry will hold well).

The mortar is applied with a construction blades and the excess is cleaned with a spatula.

Neck and head device

The size of the neck directly depends on the height of the chimney. Professionals do not advise that the pipe is very high, because this leads to a decrease in the efficiency of the design.

And the pipe itself looks at the roof not very aesthetically( it is located on the roof of the bath or on the roof in a private house - it does not matter).

In any case, it is necessary to follow certain rules and regulations and on them to choose the possible size and height for the chimney pipe.

Then you need to add a headline. After we finish all the work with the installation of a fluke or a hood.

As you can see, it is quite possible to build a chimney made of bricks by hand for a gas or solid fuel boiler. The video below shows a detailed diagram of all the works performed.

Chimney for sauna

The requirements for the smoke extraction system for the bath are special. In this case, it is required not only to install it correctly, but also to additionally insulate( with which material you choose already).

Prices for fuel are constantly growing, and therefore additional warming will help save money.

The list of useful tips will help you to properly install a smoke extraction system in a bath and increase its efficiency:

If a chimney from an oven or gas boiler is planned to be carried out not in a private house but in a sauna or sauna, then it is necessary not only to make the insulation, but also how toit is necessary to insulate existing floors.

The surface of the walls is additionally protected with fireproof sheets( it is better to take metal).

Chimney installation

If it is not possible to insulate the room, then as an option it is possible to install special screens in the chimney( they use refractory metal for their production) and place ordinary stones on them.

Warming up, they will allocate additional heat, so important for the bath.

It is also possible to install a combustion intensity regulator that will help to vary the required temperature.

The part of the chimney located on the roof of the bathhouse must also be insulated( for this, the roofing or masonry from the facing brick is suitable).

To heat the chimney for a bath is extremely important, because it will help to keep the room heat, much needed for a steam room.

Chimney repair

Timely repair of the chimney is very important. It helps to correct problems and shortcomings in the operation of the chimney system.

Basically, repairs are required when the chimney was originally laid incorrectly, or the bricks began to break down from time or external impact.

If a brick pipe starts to deteriorate due to condensation or waste combustion materials rising from the furnace, there is no need to immediately replace the pipe or carry out complex repairs.

You can simply use brickwork using metal.

In this case, inside the chimney, metallic sheets are attached to its walls( this is usually stainless steel).

The space between steel and brick is filled with insulating non-combustible materials.

Metal allows to insulate the masonry at the same time and to avoid wasting the budget for expensive repairs( the prices for repair of chimneys for professionals are simply off scale).
