Fastening of plasterboard to the profile

Fastening of plasterboard to the profile

Those who decided to make repairs in the apartment using plasterboard, it is necessary to know how to fix the drywall to the profile, because without it the design will be unstable.

Gypsum cardboard today is widely used for finishing walls and creating unique designs.

With it, you can create a false wall, make shelves, niches, curly ceilings, arched entrance, etc.

At the same time, the material costs are extremely low, and working with it is quite simple, so you can handle it with your own hands.

After the completion of the work will not have to clean up the room for a long time, because drywall almost leaves no debris. The biggest problem that you can have when working with this material is installation.

Installing drywall can seem complicated, especially if this is the first time you do it yourself.

However, if you use the instructions in the article and the auxiliary videos, you will be able to cope with this task and get a high-quality and stable design that will serve you more than one year.

Features of the material and work with it

Drywall in the market is presented in three types, which differ in the width of the fabric.

The material has the following dimensions:

  • the first type is moisture resistant( its size is 8-10 mm);
  • second - wall( width 10-12 mm);
  • the third - ceiling, it is the thinnest( 6-8 mm).

The most expensive drywall is moisture resistant, so it is used for facing mainly the walls of bathrooms. The most used type of material is the wall type.

Its dimensions are sufficient to ensure the stability and reliability of the surface. As a rule, its standard thickness is 10 mm, but it is possible to meet models with sizes up to 12 mm.

The third type of drywall - ceiling - is used, as is clear from the name, for the ceiling lining.

Profile cladding

Its dimensions are the smallest, which has a minimum load on the ceiling, and it is treated with a special compound, which makes its use impossible for other types of finishes.

The distance through which it is necessary to fix the sheets of gypsum board to the profile, differs depending on the type of drywall.

The strength of a sheet of material depends on the distance between its supports: the smaller it is, the stronger the sheet will be.

In some cases, drywall can be simply pasted, but more often the distance is still insufficient and it is necessary to use metal profiles to impart a stability structure.

The distance under the fastening of the profile of gypsum board must comply with construction standards, which assume the following specific values.

For the wall material of the strips, the length should be observed at 40 cm, for the moisture-resistant material the length should be 60, and for the ceiling it is necessary to assemble the profiles among themselves in a grid, the size of the cells should be 40x40 cm.

Correctly fixing the supports is half the battle. It is also necessary to pinpoint the holes where the screws will be screwed.

The distance should be correct, because if the screws are installed too often, the integrity of the canvas is broken, and if too rarely, it will crumble and fall out.

A small number of mounts will cause the same problem. The length between screws should be not less than 20 cm from each other with a deviation from the edges not less than half a centimeter, otherwise the sheets will crumble.

There are two types of screws that are used to mount drywall: fasteners for metal and for gypsum board.

Metal-profile screws are divided into wood-metal and completely metal.

Metal-metal screws are needed to fix two profiles together. They are equipped with a drill mounted on the end of the part, which ensures the tight fastening of the elements.

Wood and metal screws are required to connect the profile to the wooden structure. This screw has an acute tip, capable of cutting through the metal and snapping into the wood.

These parts are usually made of galvanized steel, which is strong enough.

There are many varieties of drywall screws, but it is better to use any of these two types, then the fastening will be durable and reliable and the profile under the drywall will last you a long time.

It is also important to determine which side you need to attach the drywall to the profile. Install the material to the wall with the side on which the rear paper with factory marks is located.

The outer part of the drywall can be white or green and should be placed "face" to the room.

Setting up the

material Before connecting the metal profile from the plasterboard to the material, a drawing and a plan must be drawn up so that the installation is correct and the parts are tightly connected to each other.

To do this, you need to determine the size of the future design, and draw a plan from them.

If you plan only installation of drywall on the walls, then in the plan you need to draw a frame on which the material will hold.

Fastening sheets to the profile

The frame must contain 4 support bars located in each corner of the structure.

In order for the frame to be stable, you need to make sure that the distance between the slats is the same, and also that they are not located on the very edges of the drywall, otherwise the material will be damaged.

Placing the strips, observing the correct distance, perhaps the most time-consuming process for doing it yourself, the rest of the work will be easier.

If you make shelves or other construction from plasterboard, then the skeleton must also be reflected in the plan, but with it also the image of the future building itself - so you will see how it fits into the room and whether you need to adjust the dimensions.

After the drawing is ready, it is possible to assemble the frame, and also to make its mounting on the wall. The whole process, how to connect the profile under gypsum board with the material yourself, you can follow the video.

To assemble the frame begin with the installation of guides - the so-called wide guide profile, similar to the letter "P".

It fixes from below and above the walls, or is installed along the perimeter of the ceiling, if you are engaged in the plasterboard finish of this surface.

The steering profile is needed not only to show the vector on which the carrier profiles will be installed, and also it serves as a beacon.

The most important thing is to set the guide profile smoothly. If there is a gap between the walls and the profile, then it should be closed with a thick cardboard or wood, depending on the size of the cardboard.

To fix the guide profile, use dowels, they are installed at a distance of 30 cm from each other.

After the installation is completed, it is possible to mount the frame in the starting profile on the wall, following the values of the drawing.

If you do the installation of drywall directly on the wall, then you first need to make the thermal insulation of the walls with wool, foam or foam.

If you use a profile for a partition of plasterboard, then it is not necessary to insulate the resulting structure, it is enough to fill the voids.

Fastening material directly to the wall is easier than making an arched profile or another separate structure, but even wall structures require a profile.

Constructions from the profile for gypsum board are connected to the material with screws.

You will need a quality screwdriver, work better on the average rotation mode, and when screwing in the screw - then it will go into the material the first time.

There are other rules that regulate how to install a profile for drywall on the wall: first, install the corner sheet - this is done with a single screw.

Then fix the level with the screws and press the sheet around the perimeter. Now you can screw it to the supporting bars, successively moving from one to the other.

All fasteners are self-tapping. The successive transition to the strips will ensure the most reliable fixation and preservation of the desired level of placement.

On the ceiling, the profile for gypsum cardboard is fixed similarly to the fastening of the walls, but all work is best done together, becausesimultaneously hold the profile under the ceiling and fix it with your own hands will not work, and if the material is cut, it will look ugly.

In general, fixing the profile with gypsum cardboard is a simple process, and incomprehensible moments will help you understand the auxiliary video.

With the help of a profile and plasterboard you can create a variety of designs: fix the material on the wall, make an arched entrance, false wall, etc.

Whatever type of construction you choose, the right connection and installation will make it a real decoration for your apartment.
