In the installation of door trims is not anything complicated, but for a successful result, you need to know a few nuances. Crop methods

There are two ways of installing casing, which differ in the trimming technology: 45 ° and under90 °.This affects the appearance of the door structure and the degree of complexity of the work.

Trimming under 45 °

For this mounting method, the ends of the casing are cut at an angle of 45 °.This is the most popular installation option, as it can be used for casings with different configurations. About the varieties of products, we'll talk a little later, but to be clear, the front side of them can be arched, carved, straight, etc.

The main difficulty of installing door trims is to properly and evenly trim the corners. If there is a discrepancy of at least a couple of millimeters, the details will not converge with one another, and the edging turns out to be crooked. To properly trim the trim, you need to get a crosscut saw - it's this tool that makes clear and even cuts. If such a saw in the home arsenal was not found, you can use an ordinary hacksaw, but act very carefully.

Specialists still recommend not to neglect special tools and, if necessary, to lease them. In addition to the miter saw, you will also need a chair and a hand hacksaw with a swivel mechanism. The chair is a rather primitive tool - a pattern-groove with slots. Slots help to determine the cutting angle. Then the cutting tool, for example, the usual hacksaw breaks the slots, and does it not very accurately( this is the main drawback of the chair).By and large, it is designed for one-time work.

It is much more convenient to use a rotary hacksaw. This tool is more durable and sawn parts much more accurate and cleaner. You can learn how to work with it in 5 minutes - simply turn the saw at the required angle, fix this position and saw a wooden part.

If you have experience with a jigsaw or a hand hacksaw, you can do the sawing by hand. First, using a protractor, draw a line of 45 ° on the edge of the clypeus, and then confidently cut it. However, in this case, the smoothness and cleanliness of the cut will depend only on your ability to handle the tool.

Useful trick: Specialists, to prevent the chips from appearing on the decorative surface during the cutting process, stick transparent tape along the cutting line, and then do the sawing.

Trimming at 90 °

This method of attaching door trims is used less often, but still deserves attention. Such unpopularity is caused by the fact that it is possible to cut at right angles not all types of platbands, but only moldings with a clear rectangular section or slightly rounded edges. In other cases, it is best to cut to 45 °.The essence of the work is that the adjacent bars are connected to each other at an angle of 90 °, with the upper casing over the door to be placed between the side. This condition allows you to make the pruning easier and clearly fit the joints.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the work, it's not so simple. Make a neat cut, as in the previous case, without accurate measurements and special tools will not work. For an ideal docking, the end parts of the casing should have an even rectangular configuration, so calculations of the height of the side pieces and the length of the upper casing should be kept up to a millimeter.

If you have purchased trim with slightly rounded edges, the situation is slightly more complicated, since you can not do a straight cut here. If you directly cut such a detail, then after installation will be visible ends of the upper clypeus. To hide them, it is necessary to make an inclined cutting, directed from the front side of the part to the rear.

Important: If you need to install trim with a carved or rounded configuration, this method is not applicable and you need to cut the pieces at an angle of 45 °.

Special features of mounting

The specific nature of the casing of the door frame depends on which material it is made of and what configuration it has. Platbands are wooden, plastic or MDF.

Helpful Hint: If you cash a door in a bathroom, in the kitchen or in a bath, that is, in a room with a high level of humidity, it is better to give preference to products with a laminated surface. They are more resistant to steam and temperature fluctuations, and therefore will last longer than usual.

Features of installation of lintels depending on the material from which they are made:

1. Wooden - with wooden door trims to handle the easiest because they are suitable for many ways of fastening. The most elementary option - to glue them on "liquid nails".However, it will not be possible to dismantle these platbands correctly, and it will be rather difficult to do so."Liquid nails" can only be used if your house has perfectly smooth walls, otherwise the fixation will be weak.
2. You can also nail trim with special thin studs without hats. If these were not found, the usual thin nails would do, but then the hats would have to be cut off on their own. If you still use nails with hats, then the fasteners need to be slightly "warmed up" so that it is flush with the surface of the clypeus. After the installation is finished, all the fasteners should be covered with putty on wood in tone with the color of the product.
   
3. Plastic - such platbands are best to glue, because neatly nailing them with nails will not work. This is the most budgetary class of products, so you can break them during dismantling without much regret. Unlike wooden slats, bending plastic can be glued to walls with small irregularities.
   
4. MDF - the appearance of the casings is almost indistinguishable from the wooden ones, however their fastening needs to be done in a special way. Since MDF is very hard material, it is not so easy to break it with nails. Holes for fasteners must be drilled well in advance, otherwise there is a risk of damaging the guide rails. The diameter of the holes should be 1-1.5 mm. As an alternative to nails, you can use adhesive compounds, but, as you remember, it is unlikely to be able to dismantle the plat bands without damages.
   

The angle for cutting the door casing directly depends on the shape of the relief. So, if the surface is flat, you can make a cut at 90 °.Similarly, you can act when you cash a door with products with a capital. Docking can be both vertical and horizontal.

Helpful Hint: Before joining, taper the spili with varnish or paint in a tone with the front of the clypeus.

How to choose the casing

To ensure that the door frame looks aesthetically pleasing and completely obscures all the unsightly elements of the door frame, you need to correctly choose its dimensions. According to the rules, the width of the door casing should be such that it overlaps the gap between the box and the door by 3-4 cm. In the market there are mostly universal models that are of low cost and suitable for almost all structures.

But it's important not to forget about the aesthetic purpose of the clypeus. It should harmonize not only with the door leaf, but also with the interior of the room. At a choice it is necessary to pay attention to color, the invoice and thickness of a door trim. If you choose a too massive option, then the simple door in such a frame will seem even smaller and more invisible. And, on the contrary - an overly modest clypeus "lost" against the backdrop of a luxurious door.

Usually for simple, concise door models, use flat casings with a width of 5-8 cm( universal version 6.4 cm).Semicircular are also very common, because this form allows you to combine different styles in the interior. Their width is usually 7 cm. As for figured items, their width is determined by the complexity of the thread.

Installation of casing

It is necessary to install the clypeus only after finishing the finishing works on the walls: wallpapering, plastering, painting. If you plan to fix the trim on both sides of the door, respectively, the walls in both rooms must be repaired. Also it should be remembered that you need to fix the platbands before installing the skirting board, otherwise the latter will interfere.

Helpful hint: Begin attaching the clypeus on the side where the door hinges are located. So you get a measurement guide in the form of a bar that closes the door frame from the place where you are singing, because because of them the casing can not be flush with the structure. The distance between the casing and the box should be equal to the entire height. When you attach the clypeus from the back side, it is not necessary to withstand the distance.

How to properly install the trim for the door:

1. Measure the length of the vertical frame of the box next to the door hinges. It is very important to consider every millimeter. The gap that will be obtained by indenting, add to the length and make a mark. From this point the line will begin, along which it is necessary to make a cut of the clypeus at an angle of 45 °.
2. To make the casing for the opposite side of the box, make separate measurements in the same way. You can not just cut out exactly the same element, taking the first one for the template, since in most cases the apartments have floor differences in height, and the dimensions of the door casing may differ by several millimeters.
3. Press the sawn-off planks with nails. The first nail is attached near the base, and the second - a meter from him.
4. The upper ends of the parts remain uncommitted. Place a workpiece underneath them for the upper edge of the casing, which will go over the door.
   
5. Make the markings on the top bar, indicating where you want to make the spits at 45 °, to dock all three parts.
6. With a miter saw or other suitable tool, cut off any excess parts so that a smooth cut is obtained.
   
7. Dock the parts by resting the bases of the side frames in the floor. In some cases, as a support can act a kind of wooden stand, which is placed under the door salary.
8. Fix all parts with nails without hats or studs. The distance between the fasteners can be chosen arbitrarily, however, experts recommend hammering nails in 15 cm steps. Especially this applies to doors that are often used and clapped - if the platbands are weakly fixed, very quickly they will loosen up and fall off. If in your home you are accustomed to handle the doors carefully, drive the nails every 40-50 cm. In this case, you will have to mask the attachment points less.

If you are engaged in the manufacture and installation of platbands for the first time, and still could not get a crosscut saw, almost certainly the cut will not be exactly flat. If you find that there are small gaps between the parts, do not worry, there is a way out. Fill the resulting gaps with silicone sealant, and when it dries, tint with putty on wood or color in tone with the decorative surface of the clypeus.

Helpful Hint: In order not to mess everything up around the sealant, but to obtain a neat result, seal the surface of the clypeus on either side of the slit with an adhesive tape. After the sealant has dried, it can be easily peeled off.
