Dry mixes for plasters - what are the varieties?

Dry plaster mixes are prepared from gypsum or cement with the addition of mineral components, various fillers and additives. The area of their application depends on the composition: for example, dry cement plaster can be used for both internal and external wall finishing - cement is not so afraid of water as gypsum, therefore it is not so demanding of conditions, and in particular, to humidity. On the contrary, gypsum-based mixtures are intended only for dry rooms.

In addition to the usual, there is also dry decorative plaster. It consists of mineral components based on marble, quartz sand, etc. Decorative mixtures are used mainly for finishing facades, less often - for interior decoration. The composition of the mixture may include components that impart heat-insulating, sound-absorbing and other specific properties to the plaster.

Plastering of walls with dry mixes

Unlike traditional wet, when working with dry plaster it is not necessary to prepare a mortar for plastering walls for a long time. Normally, the mixture should be filled with water in a certain proportion( on average about 5 liters per 25 kg, depending on the composition), after which it is mixed and after a few minutes is completely ready for work. The composition of dry plaster includes everything necessary to form a quality plaster mortar.

Before applying dry plaster, the surface should be prepared: cleaned, moistened, if possible even. Some mixtures have to be applied to beacons and brands - this depends on the composition and application of the mixture. Gypsum substrates must be primed before applying plaster.

The finished mortar is applied almost the same way as when working with wet plasters - using a spatula or grater. Beforehand, you need to make sure that the solution is homogeneous and has a sufficient viscosity. The plaster of walls with dry mixes occurs in several layers, and each layer should be ground using abrasive material.

The consumption of the dry mix on the plaster depends on the properties of the mixture. Different manufacturers prepare different formulations, and the flow rate can vary from 1.5 to> 9 kg / m2, depending on the thickness of the layer.

Dry gypsum plaster

Dry gypsum plaster is the well-known drywall , a very popular material in modern construction. Drywall does not require any fuss with solutions, preparation of surfaces, gravity with leveling and drying of walls. It is fixed with screws, nails or glue and forms a perfectly flat surface, ready for painting, gluing wallpaper or additional plastering.

Key points to remember when working with dry gypsum plasters:

  • Drywall is afraid of moisture, therefore it is only used in dry rooms.
  • To the wooden walls the plasterboard can be nailed directly, to the stone walls - to glue, and work with other bases requires the preparation of a special frame made of wood or metal.
  • In addition to drywall, there are special sheets based on fibreboard, which are used to finish wet rooms - and they also refer to dry plaster .
  • Joints of plates should be covered with putty or gypsum, and when preparing for wallpapering, simply clean the corners.

Drywall is a light, non-toxic and environmentally friendly material that burns badly and protects against cold and noise. These specific properties have made it very popular with modern construction.
