What is the watch and how does it look?
A good master will be able to perform a woodcut and a chisel, but the delicacy of such a carving will obviously be missed, for the simple reason that even the thinnest working part of this tool will leave very wide notches. For artistic carving on wood and metal you need a completely different tool, namely - a set of curtains. These are special cutters of various shapes, which depends on which material you decide to work with. Thus, for metal, cutters with profiles such as "Spitz", "Messer", "Flach", "Bol", "Hornbeam", "Fasset" and "Shatira" are used.
The tool with the prefix "Spitz" has a wedge-shaped cutter, the blade of which is pointed at 30-45 degrees, it is usually used most actively to create the image contour, and also to obtain clear deep lines."Messer" is also clinically visible, but sharpening it only from 15 to 30 degrees, is necessary for obtaining fine lines. The cutter "flax" resembles a chisel, that is, has a straight blade, a width of 0.2 to 5 millimeters, makes wide rectangular notches.
Both manual and pneumatic metal buttons have the same cutter shape, which, having a "bol" profile, has a rounded blade with a radius of 0.3-0.5 millimeters, is used for semicircular cuts, which often form inscriptions. Cutter "hornbeam" - diamond-shaped, is most often needed when working with large areas, especially if the surface is concave."Fasset" - trapezoidal, the angle of sharpening of the cutting edge from 60 to 120 degrees, they are most often applied complex patterns. And, finally, "shatira" allows you to get a number of parallel grooves at once, due to a notched notch on the cutter, whose pitch can be from 0.1 to 0.4 millimeters.
Engraving on metal surfaces
If you are determined to try your hand at engraving, determine which material will work, because the metal carving technique is very different from wood engraving. In addition, you will need different tools, and if you do not decide which material is closest to you, you will have to purchase two sets. But, for example, you decided to engrave metal. For this purpose, copper or brass is best suited, but it is also possible to work on steel, of course, not hardened. Cutters will need all of the above.
Engraving training should begin with simple straight and wavy lines, after which you can move on to more complex patterns.
Engraving with the metal on the metal starts with checking the sharpness of the cutter, for which we lightly pass it along the tip of the thumbnail of the left hand on the tangent, trying to cut off the edge. A well sharpened cutter will cut the shavings in the absence of any force, just by a slight touch. Now you can start working, for which it is convenient to clamp the handle of the instrument in the palm of your hand, and with your thumb and forefinger grasp the steel part of the tool in a couple of centimeters from the working edge.
To immerse the sharpened edge in metal, it is necessary to a small depth at an angle of 40 degrees, then sharply change the angle to 10 or even 5 and press the tool .It is enough to make short strokes in 3-4 millimeters in length, in due course it will be possible to make and longer lines.
Woodwork work and tool care
Woodcarving is not just a craft, but rather an art that appeared even in those times when a person did not know what metal is. Even then many people had a need to decorate their tools and weapons, and tools for engraving gradually appeared and were perfected. For wood, a special cutter is used, made in the form of a groove with sharply sharpened edge, the shape of which can be rounded or in the form of an angle .This tool is very convenient to cut small pieces of wood, both along the fibers and across, the main thing is to sharpen the poles always at the proper level( it should be checked regularly during engraving).
Work with the stylus requires some experience, therefore, before starting to engrave on the wood board, in order to avoid damage to the material, start with thick linoleum. Actually, there is even such a thread direction, called linocut, when whole pictures are performed on cuts of linoleum, from which only a sufficient level of density is required, its thickness should be at least 0.5 centimeter. Of course, according to the synthetic material used as a covering of the floors, it is not easier to work than for wood, but it will not be difficult to get used to greater resistance, the main thing is to master the technique.
