A cozy arbor surrounded by greenery can become not only a resting place for the whole family, but also an ornament of the site. On sale there are many ready-made models made of different materials, but it is much more interesting to create a design that seamlessly blends into the surrounding landscape. Arbor, made by own hands, will not be one year to please the inhabitants of the house - its size and appearance depends only on the taste and imagination of the owners of the site.

Material of the pergola
Frames of garden arbors are made of different materials:
Wood
WoodenThe building remains the most popular kind of holiday house. When it is manufactured, the most commonly used is not a very expensive pine and spruce bar. Buildings from larch will last longer, but they will cost more. Any wood before the beginning of work should be impregnated with the antiseptic solution protecting from influence of an environment.
Advantages of wooden pavilions:
- natural;
- environmental cleanliness;
- fast assembly of the frame.
Drawbacks of the material:
- exacting care;
- is not a very long service life.
Metal
The metal frame of the gazebo is made of round or rectangular pipes.
Advantages of the material:
- strength;
- reliability;
- long service life.
Disadvantages:
- high cost;
- heating of metal in hot weather.
Forged arbors are best suited to any landscape. Performed by masters of artistic forging ornaments adorn the structure, make it light and elegant. The main disadvantage of this design is high cost.
Brick and natural stone
Pergolas made of brick, natural stone and concrete are built more thoroughly and often they have a brazier or even a fireplace.
Advantages of this arbor:
- naturalness of the material;
- construction durability;
- possibility to use the glazed building as a separate summer house.
Disadvantages:
- difficulty of repair;
- significant weight;
- duration of construction.
Preparatory work
Girder frame - drawing, construction diagram
Drawing is the first step in the construction of the gazebo. Each detail is taken into account:
- the shape of the structure and its size;
- design of the gazebo;
- material used;
- load on the building;
- the number of people for whom it is intended.
Based on the diagram drawn, the necessary materials and fasteners are calculated.
Preparation of a place for a gazebo
After choosing a place for a gazebo, it is necessary to prepare:
- to remove the fertile layer of the earth;
- it is desirable to fill a layer of sand, gravel or crushed stone;
- carefully level the surface.
Then on the prepared site according to the drawing the marking of the future building is made. At its corners pegs are hammered and a line is stretched. This is done for a real estimation of the size of the arbor and the possibility of placing interior items in it.
Tools for work
For work on assembling the frame of a pergola you need the following tools and fasteners:
- For wooden frame:
- screws and nails;
- metal corners;
- screwdriver;
- circular saw;
- hacksaw;
- chisel;
- electric jigsaw;
- electric cutter;
- hammer.
- For metal frame:
- screws and screws;
- welding machine;
- Bulgarian;
- drill;
- drill for metal.
For the construction of a gazebo of brick or stone, cement is needed.
Measuring, marking tools and level should be available when mounting any gazebo frame.
Foundation for a pergola
Construction of a gazebo begins with the foundation pouring. There are several support options for the structure:
1. Monolithic foundation - rarely used, because it is not necessary to erect a light, summer gazebo. Most often it is used for building more solid, brick or stone buildings.
2. Tape foundation is used for large structures and is performed in several stages:
- a ditch is digged around the perimeter of the gaze, about 40 cm deep;
- its bottom is covered with stones or any construction debris;
- is installed formwork, projecting above the ground level by 30-35 cm;
- in the ditch is laid reinforcement or iron rods, which are connected or welded together;
- foundation pit is poured with concrete and left to dry for several days.
3. The column foundation is used for the construction of arbors most often. A fairly light framework of structures made of wood or metal does not require a capital concrete support. The foundation for the gazebos is the asbestos and metal pipes dug into the ground, brick posts or wooden logs, which are smeared with bitumen or resin before installation.
Work order:
- on the prepared marking in the middle of the arbor and at its corners are dug pits with a depth of 40 to 80 cm - this parameter depends on the degree of freezing of the earth. If a large design is planned, additional depressions along its perimeter are made;
- the bottom of the pits is covered with a layer of rubble and is rammed;
- "envelope" is laid waterproofing - ruberoid or roofing felt. Later, a column will turn into it;
- installs the foundation itself from pipes, logs or bricks that are staggered;
- the bottom of the columns is wrapped with insulating material, the joints are covered with bituminous mastic;
- foundation is leveled and filled with mortar or gravel and crushed;
- in the center of the corner posts are installed pins to fix the base of the gazebo;
- on the finished supports is laid waterproofing - ruberoid.
Assembling the frame of the pergola
Wooden frame of the pergola with your own hands
Work on the construction of the pergola itself:
- In the 100x100 blocks, a notch is made in the half-tree for the connection. In them holes for angular pins are drilled. The lower strapping is assembled and installed on the foundation.
- The required height is measured on four beams and they are cut off. At the top of the poles, a 40x100 mm propyl is made, intended for fastening the diagonal ligament. A hole for the pin is drilled from the bottom end of the beam.
- Finished bars are installed on the pins, aligned vertically and fixed with time diagonals.
- On the edges of boards 40x100 it is made propyl for connection with poles and they are connected among themselves in half a tree.
- The middle of the diagonal bundle is strengthened by bars, and its ends are inserted into the cuts of the pillars.
- The upper piping of the structure is produced.
- The frame of the roof of the pergola is also made from a bar 100x100 for a post and boards 50x100 - for rafters.
- The bar is cut 80 cm and it is cut by 50x100.
- On the boards, cutouts are made at an angle to connect with the posts.
- Rafters in the floor of the tree are connected with each other and with a column.
- The prepared roof frame is installed on the posts. In this case, the central segment of the beam must rest on the intersection of the bundle and stand strictly vertically, and the rafters at 40 cm extend beyond the framework parameter. Fastening of details occurs by means of nails.
- Other rafters are attached to the column in the overlay.
- The crate under the roof is in progress.
- Of boards of at least 40 cm thick flooring.
- At a height of 90-120 cm, railings are installed.
The elements of the wooden frame are fixed not only by the method of sawing, but also with the help of metal corners - this method accelerates the construction of the gazebo.
How to decorate the design - the master himself decides. Most often below the railing it is lined with a lining. The top of the gazebo is decorated with lattices made of wooden racks or various figurative elements.
The roofing material usually corresponds to the coverage of the main building on the site.
Metal frame of the pergola
Before proceeding with the installation of the frame of the gazebo, profile pipes are cleaned from rust, primed and painted. This will help to avoid corrosion of the metal during operation of the structure.
For the construction of a metal frame, use both a strip foundation and a columnar foundation. In the first case, the installation of support racks consists of the following stages:
- The supports are installed in the prepared ditch with formwork and are exposed vertically with the help of wooden rails attached to the metal by clamps.
- On top of all the pipes are connected in a single frame.
- The foundation is poured.
When using a column foundation, there are two options for installing supports:
- Carrying posts are inserted into the dug pipes and welded to them or fixed in the poured concrete.
- The bottom base, made of a channel, is installed on the foundation. Vertical racks are welded to it.
Then the horizontal frame of the frame is carried out. For strength, diagonal braces are installed to each pole.
Roof mounting
For a small square arbor, rafters are made in the form of triangles. If their length exceeds 1.5 m, additional braces are welded for strength inside. Slope of pipes of a square section for rafters - 10-15 degrees.
The fastening of metal frame elements is performed both by welding, and using bolts and screws - it all depends on the metal used and the skills of the craftsman.
For the decoration of the construction use the forged elements, gratings. Very nice looks a combination of metal with wood and stone.
