In conformityWith the laws of physics, noise is most strongly extinguished when passing through multilayer structures. However, the arrangement of a multi-layer noise-absorbing structure inevitably leads to a reduction in the area of the room.
The thicker the sound-insulating layer is, the quieter it will be in the room. However, you do not need to get too involved too - try to find a middle ground.
There are several methods for improving the sound-proof characteristics of walls and partitions. You can do the following:
- quality plaster surfaces;
- mount a multi-layer structure consisting of a frame, special soundproofing pads, basic soundproof material and gypsum board sheets;
- install ready-made plates for soundproofing.
Read the features of each method and select the appropriate option.
Noise insulation materials
Plaster
A significant amount of noise penetrates into the rooms through the pores in the wall material, cracks, chips and other defects. Your task is to get rid of all the listed shortcomings.
Qualitatively plastering the walls, you immediately solve two important tasks: improve the sound insulation and create an ideal basis for finishing the finish.
Drywall
The most popular and one of the most simple methods of arranging additional sound insulation. It is based on the use of special soundproof materials in combination with the finish plastering sheets of gypsum board.
Before fixing the drywall it is still strongly recommended to repair significant surface defects with plaster.
Drywall is mounted on a special frame. The soundproofing material is placed in the cells of the frame.
Sound Insulation Installation Scheme With the maturation of sound waves, materials with a porous and fibrous structure are most effective. Therefore, the frame cells are best filled with materials such as mineral plates or conventional fiberglass.
They are sold in rolls. When installing the frame to fix the drywall, be sure to consider the width of the roll so that you can later insert soundproofing material into the base cells without unnecessary effort.
For maximum effect, create a small air gap in the structure. To do this, build a frame of racks or beams with a thickness slightly higher than the thickness of the soundproof material.
In the end, the construction is covered with drywall sheets. Self-tapping is usually used for fastening.
slabs Also, the number of effective and popular methods for improving the sound insulation properties of rooms includes the installation of special slabs. In the modern market there are plates of many brands and varieties.

Plates are manufactured withusing compression methods in high temperature conditions. At the heart of products can lie different materials. Most often it is stone wool and wood shavings.
Special dowels are used to secure the panels. After the completion of the installation work, the joints must be treated with plaster. To ensure the most effective sound insulation panels must be attached not only to the walls, but also to the floor and ceiling.
The material has a number of advantages, among which special attention deserves the following:
- light weight, which allows you to perform installation work alone;
- simplicity of assembly and installation;
- resistance to aggressive external influences;
- in the process of work does not form dirt, dust;
- ease of processing.
In addition to noise protection, such boards will help to maintain additional heat in the room, which is also among their advantages.
The only drawback of the material is its relatively high cost, but it is completely justified. For comparison: the special plate has approximately twice higher sound-insulating properties in comparison with the construction from gypsum board.
Sound insulation guidelines for walls
The manual describes the method of noise insulation of walls using a multilayer structure of soundproof materials, gypsum boards and related additions. This is the best option for a beginner with an average budget.
The sound insulation of the walls must be complex, then the effect will be as tangible as possible.
Start by looking for a different kind of holes and cracks on the walls. Fix the found defects.
Take into account the fact that the sockets are also among the main sources of noise, especially in multi-panel houses. Therefore, before proceeding with the arrangement of sound insulation, you must appropriately prepare the sockets.
Turn off the electricity supply to the apartment or house. In addition, check the outlet for voltage failure using a special tester. After making sure that there is no current, disassemble the outlet and remove it from the hole.
outlet Fill the gap with a wool or foam rubber, seal the material with gypsum or other suitable quick-setting mixture, and then return the socket back. Thanks to this simple finish, the soundproofing properties of the outlet will be significantly increased.
Arrange the sealing and sound insulation of the heating pipes in places where they are connected to the walls. Do not ignore this and other mentioned additional activities. Even such trifles can significantly improve the sound insulation of walls, while the work is very easy: you just need to seal the seams between the heating pipes and walls with the help of an elastic sealant.
Use the elastic means - such material, unlike its inelastic counterparts, normally tolerates temperature changes.
After this you can proceed to the main stage of work.

The first step
Assemble the crate from the metal profile.
First use the guide profile. Preliminarily fix in the place of fixing the profile to the wall a special soundproof tape. Thanks to the tape, sound insulation will be further improved.
Attach the profile first to the floor, then to the ceiling, and then to the walls. In the interfaces of the profiles, fix them with self-tapping screws.
In the same way, prepare a rack-mount profile. It must be installed in the previously fixed guide profile with a pitch of 600 mm( standard, otherwise refer to the size of the selected noise insulation material).
Check the leveling of the frame elements with a level or plumb line. Finally, fasten the rack-mount profile to the guide with self-tapping screws. The surface of the profiles should be covered with a soundproof tape to prevent the loss of noise insulation properties in the places of contact of the frame with sheets of gypsum board.
Second step
Fill the free space of the frame with the selected noise insulation material. In combination with gypsum plasterboard, soundproofing materials based on stone wool are most often used. Working with such materials requires the mandatory use of personal protective equipment - a respirator and gloves.
If desired, you can give preference to other soundproof materials at your discretion.
Third step
Proceed to fastening the plasterboard sheets. To fix the drywall, use self-tapping screws or 2.5 cm long screws.
Fourth step
Carefully seal the joints of the sheets with putty. Gaps between the surfaces of the room and the sheets of sheath fill with elastic sealant.
This is the sound insulation of the walls is ready. In the end you will have to process the plasterboard coat with a primer and finish with the selected material.
Successful work!
