Principles of installing the window sill with your own hands

When starting to install a wooden window sill on your own, it is worthwhile to take a dry, level, processed wood.
Stages:

1. Prepare building materials. The board should be sanded, the irregularities should be wiped, defects should be removed.

   

2. Treat wood with an antiseptic agent.
3. Create the desired shape of the future window sill. If necessary, cut corners or decorate the edges.

   

4. Adjust the size of the board to the final parameters.
5. When installing a window sill that consists of several parts, the components are glued together or jointed by nagel.
6. The classic window sill has parameters of 10-15 cm more than the size of the window opening. It is worth considering this factor.
7. Measure the length of the window sill protruding into the room. The optimal size is 7 cm.
8. The invisible part of the design, from below, is insulated with felt.

   

Installation of the window sill:

1. Set the foundation for the main board.
2. On it lay the previously prepared board. It should go under the window box for better fixation.

   

3. Secure the structure with nails. Recommended to use nails without heads.
4. check the installation level. The maximum deviation error can be 1 degree.
5. Fill the gap with cement or foam. Remove remaining material.
6. Put the slopes in order.
7. Paint the window sill if desired.

Over time, the window sill may wear out. It can be dismantled and installed a new one. You can do it yourself for a very short time.
