For an electrician who produces installation of wiring in the apartment and the office, it is important to purchase a suitable set of power tools. Hammer drill

It differs from the usual built-in mechanism for performing translational movements - blows. Their cartridges are similar in design, look and work the same. To hold the working equipment, drills, for example, three-jaw chucks are used. This design, when the outer holder of the chuck rotates, shifts the cams towards each other, with the help of which the drill is clamped.

There are two modes for operation:

The impact mechanism is implemented using a ratchet made of a movable and non-movable ring with teeth on one of the sides. This mechanism does not imply longitudinal movement over a large length - the amplitude of the drill movement is within a couple of millimeters, and its energy depends on the force of pressing the impact drill against the wall and is within the range of Joules (J). That is, it rather does not hit, but vibrates into the material being processed.

Perforator

The main difference between the hammer drill and the hammer drill is the design of the hammer mechanism. It can be electromechanical and electro-pneumatic. The latter is found in most of the models on the modern market.

The principle of operation is as follows: the electric motor drives the gear of the reducer in rotation, on the output shaft of which a swinging or, as it is also called, drunk bearing (1) is fixed. It drives the piston along the cylinder. As a result, the piston interacts with the ram (2), which hits the striker (3), transferring energy to the equipment installed in the SDS cartridge (4). In this way, greater energy and depth of impact is achieved.

Interesting: at the same power, the impact energy of a hammer drill is 2 or more times higher than the impact energy of an impact drill, which is more suitable for concrete.

The second difference between a hammer drill and a drill with a percussion mechanism is the way the drills are fastened in the chuck. Whereas in the previous version, jaw chucks were used, SDS chucks are used here. It is impossible to install a conventional drill in them - only special drills with a corresponding shank. It should have 4 slots that have different diameters in pairs, they are needed to hold the rig.

To install conventional drills in an SDS chuck, you can mount an adapter on a jaw chuck, but in this case, you will not be able to achieve high quality drilling due to beating.

It is also worth noting that there are two types of shanks and cartridges:

  1. 4 slots - SDS-plus, holds tooling up to 26 mm in diameter.SDS-plus
  2. Under 5 slots - SDS-max, drills with a diameter greater than 20 mm.SDS-max

Let's summarize in order to understand what is better than a hammer drill or hammer drill, let's compare the general characteristics. Let us take it as a condition that the cardinality is the same. Then the rotational speed of the hammer drill will be about 800-1000 rpm, and for the drill 2500-3000 rpm, the torque is similar.

Typical impact energy, depending on the model, within:

  • Impact drill - small, determined by pressing against the wall. The amplitude of the longitudinal movement of the drill is also small.
  • Perforator - 0.5-27 J.

  2. Drilling blind holes in hard materials. When drilling concrete and brick, a blow is needed, both tool options are suitable, and for through - only a perforator.
  3. Gutting - is carried out with a perforator with a chisel or a wall chaser. The punch in this case is included in the "only blows" mode.
  4. Chiseling of niches under the shields - only a hammer drill.

If you look at a number of tasks that both of these tools solve, you can come to the conclusion that it is better to take both. For home, to drill a hole in the wall a couple of times a year and hang a picture, for example, you should choose a good hammer drill than a bad hammer drill. For repairs on a limited budget, the hammer drill is a more versatile solution. To argue about "which is better ..." is not entirely objective, because these are different tools, although they are used for similar tasks.
