Drywall crate: walls, manufacturing options, materials

Drywall is one of the most popular building materials. It is used when leveling walls, creating partitions, arranging niches and other elements. Reliability of fastening directly depends on how well the gypsum board crate is made. This is the most important element in the arrangement of any design made of this material.

Wireframe options

The gypsum plasterboard crate can be made of the following materials:

• from wooden blocks;
• from a metal profile.

To make the right choice, you should consider the features of the material for the frame.

To create a frame, wooden coniferous bars are used. Wood is sensitive to high humidity and temperature changes. In damp rooms, mold affects it. With a sharp change in temperature, it can deform. But the material for the wood frame is cheaper. Also, the bars provide a more reliable fastening of self-tapping screws, since the latter are held in the tree every turn.

Metal profiles are more expensive, but they are more reliable and durable. They are not affected by the environmental impact. Also, such a frame takes up less space. The metal does not need additional processing and fitting, therefore, assembly takes less time.

In general, everyone decides for himself which material to choose. The tree is suitable for warm and dry rooms. Metal is a more versatile material.

Materials, tools

You will need:

• metal profiles PN and PNP - guides for walls and ceiling;
• PS profile - rack-mount;
• PP profile - ceiling;
• EU brackets - straight hangers for attaching rack profiles;
• ceiling anchors;
• simple connectors to extend the metal profile and cruciform - “crabs”;
• dowel nails with a diameter of 6 mm;
• self-tapping screws “bugs”.

Instruments:

• scissors for metal;
• screwdriver;
• long level;
• hammer drill;
• pencil;
• a hacksaw for wood, a hammer - when installing a wooden crate.

Installation of metal profiles

Most often, to create a crate metallic profile. The construction of the frame is carried out in several stages.

Room layout

First, work is carried out on the layout of the room.

Marking for lathing on the ceiling:

• The distance by which the ceiling surface will be lowered and which depends on the size of the recessed fixtures used is departing from the lowest angle.
• From the marked point, a line is drawn along the entire perimeter of the room using a level and a swing cord. On it will be located ceiling guide profiles.
• Now marking is done for the main ceiling profiles. They should be mounted at a distance of 60 cm from each other, and jumpers should be located between them at the same distance. After marking on the ceiling, you should get a grid of squares with a side of 60 cm.
• Suspension attachment points are marked, which should be in the middle of the side of each square.

For a wall frame, the marking is as follows:

• Retreat from the walls to a distance of 5 to 15 cm. It depends on the degree of unevenness of the base, as well as the planned communications and insulation (if necessary).
• A straight line is drawn across the ceiling.
• Using a plumb line is transferred to the floor. Both lines should be straight, level-aligned and parallel to each other: guide profiles will be placed along them.
• Mark the places where the bearing profiles will be located. The distance between them is from 40 to 65 cm. At the same time, it is necessary to guess so that the edges of the sheets at the joints are on metal racks, and not on the space between them.

It is best if the drywall sheet “lies” on 3 profiles: 2 along the edges, 1 in the center. With a standard GCR width of 1.25 m, the optimal distance will be 62.5 cm.

Installation of the lathing

It is advisable to start with mounting frame for the ceiling.

• Guides are mounted along the perimeter of the walls along the marked line with dowels in 60 cm increments.
• At the points where the main ceiling profiles will be located, suspensions are attached to the ceiling.
• Ceiling profiles, if necessary elongated, are inserted into the guides and fastened with self-tapping screws.
• From ceiling profiles, jumpers are cut, which are fastened with self-tapping screws. The joints are reinforced by "crabs."
• Each profile is set according to the level, adjustment is carried out using suspensions.

Now you can begin to assemble the lathing for the walls.

• First fasten the guides. They are attached horizontally along the drawn lines on the floor and ceiling. Fasten them with dowels in increments of 40-60 cm.
• Then rack profiles are inserted into the rails. The supporting profile is attached to the wall using mounting suspensions, the distance between which is 60 cm.

If you plan to hang something on the wall (for example, a shelf for flowers or a TV), then you need to install an additional supporting profile in this place.

Wood frame

How to make a plasterboard crate from wooden blocks? In general, the creation of a wood frame is similar to the assembly of a metal crate from a metal profile. However, there are some nuances that must be considered:

• When preparing the material, the bars need to be treated with special antibacterial and antiseptic impregnation, it is desirable that it be oil-based. Before assembly, the tree must be thoroughly dried.
• For the frame, take bars with a cross section of 5 × 5 cm. The thickness of the tree can not be less than 5 cm, otherwise the bars will not have sufficient strength.
• When assembling the frame, you need to use special wood screws.

Further assembly of the frame is as follows:

• On the floor and on the ceiling, guide lines are marked.
• Install guide bars around the perimeter of the wall.
• Between them, vertical rails are fixed so that the edges of the drywall sheets lie on the racks. The distance between the bars should not exceed 50 cm.
• Strengthen the crate with transverse bars.
• Bearing bars fasten together with screws. For a more reliable fixation, you can use the corners.
• The crate should be in the same plane and form a perfectly flat surface.
• If you plan to hang something on the wall, reinforce the crate with additional horizontal bars.
