How to adjust plastic doors yourself

Plastic doors are a well-established competitor to the classic wooden structure. They are known to all thanks to their use in shops and offices, but even in the apartment there is a place for such doors - they are installed in a balcony opening. Doors made of plastic are not so complicated as to give the owner big problems. But, like any mechanism, in the process of operation, they may also periodically experience small malfunctions that require intervention. Adjusting plastic doors is a simple process, you can do this kind of work yourself, but some knowledge is needed to help you get it done.

Malfunctions during the operation of plastic doors

If the door is tightly closed or a strong draft is felt from under it - this is a clearly expressed problem that needs to be addressed. It is not necessary to bring to this state, because the presence of obvious malfunctions leads to great difficulties in commissioning, as well as to the wear of some parts. There are simple methods for checking the correct functioning of the doors, which will allow you to determine in a timely manner whether adjustment is necessary.

Checking the door to door clip

First of all, the state of the sealing rubber will “tell” about the correctness of the door clamp. If it is crumpled from some angle or its thickness decreases - this is a clear sign of incorrect pressing.

In addition to taking measures to adjust the door, the deformed sealing gum will have to be replaced.

The method of checking the uniformity of the pressure of the door to the box:

1. A sheet of paper should be placed between the frame and the door leaf.
2. The shutter must be closed and, remembering the applied force, pull out the paper.
3. The previous steps should be repeated around the perimeter of the frame.

If at some place the paper is pulled out without effort or, conversely, it is impossible to remove it, this indicates the need to adjust the pressure.

Door sag detection

Possible sagging of the door leaf, the presence of which can be determined using a level or a simple pencil.

• When installing the frame and door leaf, installers must use the building level, since all elements are set strictly vertically or horizontally. Using a similar tool, you can quickly determine the presence of sagging doors.
• In the absence of a level, an ordinary pencil is enough to draw a line along the entire canvas with the door closed. Then the sash must be opened and determine the parallelism of the line to the edges of the box. The difference in width of the resulting strip should not exceed 2 mm.

Self-tuning: tools

After identifying the defect, it will be necessary to adjust the metal-plastic doors, which, if there is a guarantee, will be performed by the called specialist. However, after the expiration of the warranty period, the wait for the repairman is required, which is sometimes delayed. If, in addition to this, the cost of adjustment is taken into account, it makes sense to configure the correct operation of the door yourself. This will require a simple set of tools, including:

• pliers or pliers;
• two screwdrivers - flat and cross-shaped;
• hexagons - G-shaped keys with sizes from 2.5 to 5 mm;
• plastic gaskets;
• roulette.

Clamp Adjustment Process

This process eliminates the gaps through which the draft drains.

Most often, you can adjust the clamping force only by rotating the eccentric screws, which are located on the end of the door leaf. Near the screw with a recess under the hexagon there is a special mark - a point in the form of a small recess, which helps determine the density of the clip. If it is necessary to loosen the clamping force, the screw rotates with the mark towards the frame, and when reinforcing, vice versa, towards the room.

Difficulties can arise due to the fact that there are usually three such eccentrics - above, below and in the middle. Therefore, it is necessary to act by experiment, turning the screws at the same angle. After each installation of a new position, it is necessary to control the result.

Please note: these screws provide high-quality pressure only near the handle. In practice, you may need additional adjustment near the canopies. In this case, the adjustment is carried out by screws for the hexagon located in the upper part of the two loops (upper and lower).

Important! The design of the doors may vary, sometimes the clamp is adjusted using a special trunnion, which is rotated with pliers, to increase the clamping force it must be placed perpendicular to the door canvas.

Elimination of horizontal and vertical displacement

The door may deviate from the desired horizontal or vertical position. The adjustment in each of these cases will be different.

Horizontal web offset

To eliminate this defect, adjusting screws are located in all three loops. Each of the screws is covered by a decorative cover, to remove which a door is opened and a fixing screw is unscrewed with a 3 mm hexagon. After this, the sash closes and the linings are removed.

• If only the edge opposite the hinges is sagging, the horizontally protruding adjusting screws on the upper and middle loops are tightened. At the same time, the number of revolutions for which cranking is performed should be different. On the upper loop more, and on the middle - less.
• For uniform movement of the entire canvas to the right or left, the adjustment is performed by turning three screws at the same number of revolutions.

Vertical displacement

At the bottom of each loop are adjusting screws with a 5 mm hex recess. They are responsible for moving the canvas vertically. At the same time, all three screws must be adjusted to shift up or down.

Turning to the right (clockwise) is raising the door. Two revolutions are usually sufficient for adjustment.

If you need to adjust the reciprocal strips and install them in a new, shifted up or down position, you will need a flat screwdriver and a 2.5 mm hexagon.

When adjusting the main locking plate, if the reciprocal movement is not enough, a Phillips screwdriver is needed.

There are times when the travel of the screws is not enough to complete the setting. In this case, you need to “pull out” the door. To do this, remove the plastic glazing beads and into the space between the profile and the double-glazed window, without applying great effort, insert the pre-prepared plastic gaskets.
