Finishing internal corners
When the alignment of corners with plaster is done from the inside - there are two possible ways of finishing. The first is when two adjacent walls are simultaneously plastered. The second is when one untreated wall is joined with plastered. However, the principle is approximately the same. First, apply a primer in the direction from the corner to the wall, which is rubbed with the rule. Then form an angle and scratch the surface with a special grater with nails.
Do this as follows: a trowel at an angle of 30º is applied with an edge to the base and brought to the corner. Then, when it already cuts into the material, it gradually begins to move it down and up. Further, the trowel is applied to the hard side with the edge, and flat to the newly stitched plaster. This creates a corner on both sides. After the primer has dried, it is necessary to apply a layer of finishing material and smooth it away from the corner.
Finishing of external corners
For external corners there can also be two ways of finishing. The first method using a metal corner profile. Such corners for plaster allow you to trim two combined walls. In this case, the angle itself is smooth, smooth, neat. The second method involves the use of a beacon rack. With it, first plaster one, and then the other side of the corner. There are also metal corners for plaster( or else it is called a metal corner rail).
They help to make a solid edge of the corner. First, apply the angular profile, and then the layer of plaster. To the central part of such profiles are attached shelves-mesh. Moreover, if necessary, you can cut these corners. The central part is cut with a saw, and the lateral ones by special scissors for metal. The process is best shown in special videos. Plaster corners, video tutorials on the application of which are presented on many construction sites, will help you to cope faster with the work.
Common errors in plastering corners, as well as important recommendations
When decorating walls and corners with plaster, many admit a number of mistakes that can be avoided by knowing the general operating principle. So, let's describe the most common mistakes and give general recommendations.
- The work is started without due assessment of the condition of the substrate. This leads to the fact that in the future may form cracks, and the coating crumble. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the surface of the walls.
- Large breaks between plaster ceilings, slopes and walls. The mixture should dry uniformly throughout the substrate.
- It is important to follow the general technology of plastering walls. A big mistake is to apply a coating layer without the proper primer. All this leads to the fact that after drying through the entire surface, the outlines of blocks and bricks will appear.
- When cornering on slopes at the junction with window frames and door frames, it is important to create compensating seams. Therefore, before starting the finishing process, you need to attach expansion strips. Otherwise, cracks can form in these places.
- In no case should galvanized profiles be cut by a Bulgarian, as a protective zinc layer, which protects against corrosion, can be destroyed.
- In the case when the outer corner is located in passable places, the installation of a metal corner profile is mandatory!
- If painting works are carried out at a temperature below + 10 °, then it is better to add portland cement to the plaster composition.
