The main types of children's chairs
Considering the types of highchairs, first of all, you should pay attention to the material from which they are made. In accordance with this criterion, highchairs are divided into:
- wooden;
- metal;
- are plastic;
- combined.
The first option is the most environmentally friendly. Although wooden chairs are safe for children from a medical point of view, they often have sharp angles, which for children up to a year represent a huge danger.
Metal chairs allow you to experiment with the design. They are used for more adult kids.
Plastic chairs differ in the variety of models and forms, but of course, at home, such chairs can not be made.
Children's chairs of combined type consist of several components, for example, plastic and wood, or metal and leather.
In accordance with the functional features, highchairs are divided into:
- folding;
- walker chairs;
- swing chairs;
- transformers;
- classic chairs;
- compact highchairs;
- non-ordinary models;
- pendant chairs;
- high chairs for travel.
Folding chairs are multifunctional and diverse. Such chairs are designed for direct sitting, as well as for feeding. Have the ability to adjust the backrest, set the table top, change the size, sometimes include special footboards or wheels, a place for storing things. Designed for the smallest children. Used for children from 4-5 months of age, as with the correct adjustment, the baby in this chair is in a half-lying state.
Walking stools are used by kids from 6 months to 3 years of age. Models allow you to adjust the height in different directions in accordance with the growth of the child. Used as a chair or as a walker, allowing you to save on buying these items separately.
A swing chair is a great option for small children. This chair has several adjustments in height, and special belts will protect the baby from falling. In some models, the work of the swing is regulated by batteries, while the baby is swinging, my mother has some free time. In addition, this chair saves space in the house, as swings and chairs individually take up more space.
The stool-transformer is mainly made of plastic. Such chairs consist of two parts. In one version, they are used as a normal highchair, and in the second - as a dining table and a chair for the baby. This chair can be easily disassembled and convenient to store. Used by children from six months to three years.
A classic highchair is the simplest model made of wood. On this chair there is no lock and wheels. For fans of simple design - this is the best option. Moreover, the cost of such a chair is affordable, besides, it is easy to make by yourself.
Compact children's chairs are mini-chairs, which are very convenient to take with you on travel. They are easy to attach to a table or to another chair for adults.
Unconventional models of children's chairs are quite expensive and made to order. These chairs differ in non-standard forms in the form of an oval, an ellipse or a semicircle.
With a lack of space in the apartment or in a certain room, the use of a hanging highchair will be an excellent option. Its installation is carried out using a clamping mechanism. This chair is not suitable for children weighing more than 15 kg. It does not have a footrest, it is attached directly to the table, it is easy to transport and has a low cost.
A highchair for traveling is a design that is attached to any adult chair with straps. There are many options for models of this chair, they are practical and multifunctional, convenient to use and care.
Depending on the size of the chairs are allocated:
- for children from 6 months to a year;
- from 1 year to 3 years;
- from 3 to 6 years;
- from 6 years and above.
Recommendations for choosing a highchair
- When choosing a plastic highchair, study its characteristics and require a product certificate that confirms its quality.
- Any stool before purchase should be checked for the reliability of the joints and the strength of the structure.
- The presence of wheels allows you to easily move the chair - this solution is appropriate for large rooms.
- Additional safety belts are required to prevent the child from slipping from the chair. Pay attention to the seat belts - they must be five-point.
- Make sure that the child's chair does not have sharp corners or notches.
- The seat in the feeding chair must be removed for cleaning.
- For children from 5 to 8 months it is recommended to buy high chairs, which have the ability to adjust the back, as the spine of such babies is not yet strong and needs a soft surface.
Children's chairs of wood with their own hands
The most safe and environmentally friendly version of the material for making a highchair is a tree. Choosing among a large number of breeds, it is better to give preference to beech, since it is he who is able to last as long as possible and, at the same time, is characterized by high stability and strength.
To make a highchair for a child from 6 months to 3 years old, make a backrest 60 cm high and seats 35 cm long.
Fasten parts using self-tapping screws, nails, dowels or wooden spikes. The simplest and most reliable option is the fixation with spikes. To do this, in each detail should provide for holes in which will be inserted spikes. Spikes are installed using glue, which will provide additional reliability of fixation.
To make a simple wooden highchair you will need:
- four bars, which are installed in the lower part of the chair;
- two rear legs 4х4х60;
- two front legs 4х4х35;
- two small pieces for the seat 1,5х0,5х25;
- two boards for the backrest.
Preparing the rear legs for the chair, note that for their stability it is necessary to ensure a gradual narrowing of the elements downwards. The same applies to the front legs.
Two backboards can be machined with a metalwork tool and made with patterns.
When connecting components, use clamps, at each stage, watch for the smoothness of the corners.
After the glue has dried, treat the stool with varnish or paint.
How to make a highchair for yourself
Stools for feeding have a high enough cost, so it's much easier and cheaper to make such a thing yourself. We propose to consider the option of making a wooden wooden chair for feeding.
To make a highchair, you will need:
- hammer;
- electric or manual saw;
- timber, section of which is 40x20 cm;
- boards, the thickness of which is 2 cm;
- of one sheet of fiberboard;
- batting or foam rubber;
- nails;
- of dowels;
- glue;
- brushes;
- of fabric material;
- sandpaper or grinding machine;
- hand protection gloves;
- plywood;
- varnish or acrylic based paints.
To assemble a chair, it will be necessary to manufacture parts such as:
- legs: two rear and two front, 40 cm long;
- two crossbars, which are located from the bottom, length of 34 cm;
- three transverse bars length 30 cm;
- one solid board, used as a table top;
- rounded elements - 4 pcs.
For the manufacture of such parts it will be necessary to saw the timber. The first thing to do is make the legs, and then proceed to sawing the crossbeams. In the end, they saw the cross-arms. After the parts are ready, they should be processed using sandpaper or a grinder. This process will protect the baby from splinters and make the texture of the tree softer and more pleasant to the touch.
The rounded elements are used as sidewalls, which are cut from the boards. To obtain the most durable and reliable chair, you need to follow the drawing of the highchair.
Before cutting out the parts, pre-cut them. The arrangement of the fibers to the flexion angle should be perpendicular to the greater durability of the chair.
For the backrest and seats, a sheet of fiberboard is suitable, from which it is necessary to cut out workpieces with 6 pieces and a size of 30x25 cm. The two corners of the part must be rounded. For sanding the ends, use sandpaper. Then pair the parts together and place them under the press.
To make a table top, use a sheet of plywood. Cut out the part whose size is 20x34 cm.
When all the parts are ready, proceed to the process of assembling the highchair. To do this, you need to build dowels rectangular shape. They are cut out of wooden material. The size of dowels is 0,8х2х5 cm. It is also possible to purchase dowels in the store. To fix the dowels in the details, it is necessary to make a hole with a drill, the depth of which is 4 cm.
The dowels are fixed with glue and nails. But be careful, hammer nails as deep as possible to protect the child from injury or to not accidentally catch on to the nail.
Start the assembly from the side. They include two rounded parts, legs and lower crossbeams. The first thing to do is to connect the legs and crossbeams with glue and nails. After fixing, check the smoothness of the connections.
Now start assembling the upper crossbar and two rounds. The second side is assembled in a similar way. Equate the two side parts to eliminate the risk of their non-identity. Sand the surface of the sidewalls with sandpaper again.
Connect the seat and the backrest using screws or a corner. Wait for the final drying of the adhesive and proceed to the final assembly of the chair.
The sidewalls are joined by cross bars and dowels. Do not forget to make holes for them first. Additional fixation is performed with the help of nails. Attach the lower bars to the legs and install the cross members. Fix the countertop.
Treat the structure with a grinder or sandpaper. Cover with varnish or paint. After the chair has completely dried, take a piece of cloth and cover the elements of the backrest and seat. Before this, put foam on them and fix it with a stapler. Now the high chair is ready for use.
Manufacture of a mobile highchair
Wooden chairs for feeding are environmentally friendly and durable, but such chairs are almost never disassembled and transported heavily. And if necessary, go with the child on a visit or on vacation, an excellent option will be the manufacture of a mobile highchair.
This requires the availability of:
- fabric - cotton or linen 300 cm;
- sling - 250 cm;
- buckle-carabiners - 3 pcs.;
- thick braid - 300 cm;
- scissors;
- needles;
- filaments;
- if possible, a sewing machine, since this process is difficult to perform manually, and the chair is not so reliable.
First you need to cut out the necessary details. This chair is a tissue bag, which is attached to any adult chair.
To ensure that the children's chair is not so dirty, choose fabrics with bright and colorful colors, which also embellish it. Two cut details are sewn together. Chair is obtained in the form of a bag, which is additionally sewed straps and put on carabiners.
The first part is located on the back of the chair, and the second one secures the child's fixation by passing through the legs. It is possible to place ribbons, applications or pockets on the chair for storing small things.
All parts are fastened first on the inside, and then are turned out through a small hole and sewn up.
The tape is fastened between two parts that are in front, then the lines and carbines are installed.
