This article deals with infrared and cable heating systems for flooring. If you notice that the electric warm floor does not heat up or weakly warms up the room, you should immediately proceed to find the cause. Why we do not heat up and what to do in this case, we described below.

The first thing to do is make sure that the heating system is suitable for power. As a rule, a film or a heating cable is connected through a temperature regulator, to which voltage is applied. If the indicators on the temperature indicator display are lit, then the power is on, if the indicators are missing or not lit, you have to check manually why the warm floor does not heat. You need to take a multimeter and check if there is voltage on the input contacts. How to use the multimeter, we described in detail in the relevant article.

By the way, low voltage in the network is also the reason why the warm floor does not heat up to the desired temperature. If 200 volts instead of 220 are applied to the terminals, the heating efficiency is reduced by 20%.To solve this problem, you need to install a voltage regulator in the house.

The video shows one more ways to check the regulator:

thermostat If there is voltage on the input, you need to make sure that it is fed normally to the heating cable itself or infrared film. To do this, make sure that no one accidentally touched the settings, becauseit is possible that the temperature is set to minimum, as a result of which the heating does not turn on. Also check that the wires are securely connected to the terminals. Bad contact is also the reason why the electric warm floor does not heat up or heats up slightly.

With connection and settings all right? Measure the voltage at the output of the thermostat( the terminals to which the heating system itself is connected). When it is on, it must match the network settings. If this is not the case, the thermostat will have to be replaced.

Make sure that the thermostat is faulty by connecting the warm floor directly to the mains. If the floor covering starts to heat up, then it's the regulator.

Damage to the

Next, check the temperature sensor and the electrical floor heating system itself. For this, the multimeter measures the resistance of the thermal sensor and the cable itself( or the film). If the value does not match the passport, then the devices are out of order."0" on the tester's display will indicate a short circuit, and "1" or infinity about the break of the circuit( may occur as a result of mechanical damage).About how to repair the warm floor with your own hands, we told in the relevant article!

Resistance measurement

You can find the nominal resistance of the heating element by using the formula: R = U2 / P, where U is 220 volts, and P is the power of the electrical floor( you can see it in your passport or use an approximate calculation of 150 W / m2).

We also draw your attention to the fact that the resistance of the temperature sensor on heating decreases, so if the difference compared to the passport data is small, this indicates its serviceability. If the resistance is significantly different from the one declared by the manufacturer, then the sensor is defective.

If you have checked all the elements and they are working, but the warm floor does not heat above 22 or, for example, 30 degrees, then the cause is one of three:

  1. Wrongcalculated the heating power, as a result of which the infrared or cable cover does not heat enough.
  2. Poorly insulated room. Large heat losses prevent heating.
  3. You did not follow the rules of mounting the heating elements: they made a large step of laying, a thick screed or placed heat sensors close to the warm floor.

In this case, you have to redo everything, becauseThe system does not heat up by your mistake and will replace at best the location of the sensor if there really is a reason in it. About how to properly make the electric floor for the tile, we explained in detail in the relevant article. About the laying of infrared film under the laminate, we also talked.

That's all we wanted to tell you about why electric underfloor heating does not heat and what to do to troubleshoot. As you can see, everything is easy enough to determine, the main thing is to be able to use a multimeter!
