A home master must necessarily have a convenient place, this is a pledge not only for convenience and speed of work, but also for security. Quality workbenches of European production stand as industrial equipment, Chinese and artisanal assemblies - do not differ reliability. However, you can make a good workbench with your own hands, because, in fact, this table is equipped with various fasteners, stops and a place for storing the instrument.

Bench design

The height of the bench depends on the growth of its owner, it should be comfortable standing, not slouching to perform basic operations. For average growth, this is usually 70-90 cm. The configuration of the workbench and the necessary fixtures and fixtures depend on what operations are performed on it more often, but provide several stops and a pair of screw clamps or clamps( as is done, read here). Also it is necessary to take into account, what hand the owner of a workbench works.

verstac2 Workbench scheme - the first version

The width and length of the workbench depend on the workshop area, it is convenient if the workbench length is not less than 2 meters and the width is 80-100 cm. It is convenient if boxes or storage cabinets for storage of tools and consumables are mounted under a workbench.

When designing a workbench, you need to consider whether it will be permanently installed in the workshop or permanently assembled and disassembled. In the second case, it is reasonable to facilitate the construction due to the material of smaller thickness. In a demountable workbench, you can make an untwisting countertop, or you can provide for folding legs.

The workbench is better at the window, additional local lighting is also mandatory. Directly next to the workbench you need to provide several electrical outlets for the equipment. All wires near the work area must be enclosed in a box or corrugated pipe.

Material selection

The optimal material for the workbench is the planed beam from which the frame frame and legs will be made. For the legs, you can take it in size 100 * 70 mm, and for jumpers - 100 * 50 mm. The worktop can be made of flat boards 5 cm thick. It can also be made from a single leaf, for example, an old blind door or a laminated chipboard with a sufficiently strong coating. For a workbench it is better to choose hard woods, beech, oak or maple is preferable. Thicker bars and boards will make the workbench heavier and more stable, and it will be more convenient to work on it.

Attachments for making a workbench are selected taking into account whether it will be prefabricated or collapsible. Self-tapping screws, nails and nuts with bolts will come in handy.

Before you build a workbench, you need to find a vice. It is convenient if there are 2 of them - right side and left front. In the first you can fix the long boards, and in the second - to clamp the short parts. The most versatile sponge width is 175 mm.

Scheme of the second version of the workbench

We build a workbench. Base

Manufacturing of a workbench occurs in 2 stages: assemblage of the basis and installation of a table-top. At each stage and every operation, you need to control the size of the parts and evenness of their installation with the help of a level.

The base is a frame of beams fastened in such a way that the structure is as rigid as possible. For this purpose, between the legs of the bench there is a horizontal jumper, and in the middle, along the length, the king is provided. The lintels and the king are 40-50 cm from the floor, then on them you can install shelves for storing the instrument. Combining the beams for the base with the help of the connection "spike-groove", gluing it. In places where this is not possible, use self-tapping screws. If it is assumed that the workbench will be dismantled, then the parts of the support frame can be joined by means of metal corners. Usually, first grooves and studs are prepared, according to the drawing, and then the entire structure is assembled at once, gluing the joints with joinery glue and fixing them with clamps.

A good option for a stationary workbench if one or more pieces of the support frame can be screwed to the wall, so the construction will be even more reliable. Increase the strength can be with the help of diagonal bridges or wedge-shaped inserts between the legs and the top of the frame of the same beam, which are attached with screws. The narrow ends of the upper part of the frame must also be bridged.

Table top and useful attachments verstak

If the table top is constructed from separate boards, then they need to be carefully fitted to each other so that debris does not get into the slot. The size of the countertop should be several centimeters more than the base so that it would be convenient to work and clean it. The boards are nailed or bolted to 3 blocks located across the boards from the back side of the countertop. In the base, it is necessary to provide grooves for these bars.

The table top is carefully sanded several times and covered with a protective solution, preferably with oil or linseed oil, to avoid injury from chips during further work. To the base the table top is screwed onto the metal corners.

The vise is fastened to the finished table top, under them it is necessary to provide a groove in the end of the table top, so that the vertical plate forms one plane with it. The bottom of the workbench will also require a gasket from plywood. The lips of the vice should be placed on one level with the surface of the countertop. Applying the vice, mark the place under the holes and fasten them with bolts and nuts( M12 fit). The holes for the bolt heads must be pre-cut before they completely drown in them. The vise should not be located in the corner itself, so as not to break it under heavy load.

In addition to the vice on the workbench, it is necessary to provide stops. You can fix the finished ones by drill the hole in the top of the desired diameter, or make them yourself. Use bolts or round nagels instead of stops is not worth it, since the bolts can damage their workpieces with their heads, and the nagels do not fix the parts well enough.

Easier to make rectangular stops, or pegs, which are adjustable in height for different parts, and securely fix them. Under them, you need to make holes in the countertop or build it up using brusochkah suitable thickness, bolted to its edge, and closed the bar on the other side. Sockets should be located one from each other at a distance of half the stroke of the vice so that any workpiece can be fixed.

The pins themselves are sawed with a jigsaw from hard wood, you can make them with a "spring", which is screwed to the base, or you can just rectangular. Rectangular stops can be slightly expanded upwards, then they will be fixed in the nests more reliably.

Stolen-tool

Building a joiner's bench with your own hands is not an easy task, but then this workplace can serve the owner for a long time, acquire useful details and adaptations and adapt to the specific needs of each master.
