A convenient kennel can be made from simple materials in a matter of hours. It is very important to choose the right size of a dog's home so that the home guard feels comfortable at any time of the year. In addition, a dog booth, built with their own hands, can become an additional decoration of the site, if you use the original design and decorate it properly.

To properly make a box, you need to determine its shape and dimensions. Do not build too complex a structure: the presence of unnecessary partitions, ladders, protrusions and similar elements will greatly interfere with the dog. The best option is a rectangular kennel with a side entrance and a sloped roof, where a pet can warm in the sun. A roof or one of the walls should be made removable, which will allow easy and quick disinfection of the booth.
The dimensions of a booth must match a particular dog, so when making a sketch, it is necessary to take measurements: height at the withers, length from nose to tail, chest width and height of the dog.
Based on this, you can define the frame parameters:
- width and height of the booth is equal to the height of the dog + 5 cm;
- the depth of the booth is 5 cm longer than the length of the animal;
- width of the chest corresponds to the width of the chest + 5 cm;
- the height of the climb is more than the height of the dog at the withers by 5 cm.
To calculate the booth parameters for the puppy, it is necessary to use the data from specialized directories. So, on paper, draw an approximate draft of the design, transfer to it all the necessary measurements. It remains to determine the materials for the booth. Most of the houses for dogs are made of wood;this material is the most environmentally friendly, easy to use, inexpensive. The use of coniferous species is especially recommended.
Tools and materials for work
In order not to be distracted during the construction process, everything necessary must be prepared in advance:
- dry timber 100x100 and 100x50 mm;
- edging board 25 mm thick;
- cladding;
- sheet of plywood or chipboard;
- bruski 40x40 mm;
- polystyrene foam;
- ruberoid;
- parchment;
- antiseptic impregnation;
- sand;
- galvanized nails;
- door hinges;
- hammer.
The boards and bars must be carefully cleaned before assembly, otherwise the dog can paw its legs. But to treat wood impregnation is better after the end of work, and only from the outside: foreign smells cause irritation in animals, so the dog can refuse to enter the booth.

Building a booth with a gable roof
Most dogs like to lie on top of a booth, so they are more comfortable houses with a gable roof. The roof should be under a slight slope and necessarily opening - this design simplifies the cleaning and disinfection of the booth. To protect the pet from the cold, the house should be thoroughly insulated, and it is better to do it right away, at the stage of assembly. For the same purpose, it is recommended that the bow is placed on the wide side of the booth with a displacement to one of the corners. So the room will not be blown and the dog will have a cozy and warm bed.
Step 1. Making the bottom frame
The 40x40 mm bars are cut along the length and width of the bottom, stacked on a level platform or on a table, connected with screws into a rectangle. If the animal is large, additionally strengthen the frame with one or two crossbeams from the bar. After that, the frame is covered with boards on one side.
Step 2. Insulation of the floor
The boarded frame is stacked so that the bars are on top. Lining the inner surface with a piece of pergamon, attach it to the stapler's staples, and then cut the foam to the size of the frame and lay it tightly between the beams. The height of the insulation must correspond to the height of the bars. On top, the polystyrene is covered with another layer of pergamina and the finishing floor is stuffed.
Step 3. Assembling the frame of the booth
The beam 100x100 mm is sawed into 4 parts: 2 pieces along the length equal to the height of the booth, 2 to 7-10 cm longer. These bars should be fixed in a vertical position at the corners of the bottom. Racks of a greater length are installed in the front part, and those that are shorter in the rear. This is necessary to form a roof slope. Each bar is exposed to the level and fixed with nails or self-tapping screws. In addition, fill the vertical bars in the center of the walls and 2 bars of a smaller size on the sides of the hole. At the inner joints, metal plates are used to strengthen the frame.
Step 4. Wall sheathing
The finished frame is lined with a lining on the outside and insulated from the inside: first the walls are closed with a quill, fixed with a stapler, and then fill the space between the blocks with mineral wool or pieces of foam. On top of the heater cover with another layer of glassine, on top of which plywood is packed, chipboard or other similar material. To strengthen the cladding you need galvanized nails of small dimensions, carefully sinking the hats so that the dog is not injured.
Step 5. Making the roof
For a single-deck roof, you need a sheet of OSB and 40x40 mm bars. From the bars, the frame is knocked down to the size of the inner perimeter of the kennel. From the OSB, cut a piece of the same size and stuff it onto the frame. Between the beams are densely laid foam, cover it with a film, fix it with a stapler along the perimeter. Next, take a sheet of plywood of a larger size and stack it from above so that from the back and sides it overlaps the lower frame by 10 cm, and in front protruded by 15-20 cm. This is necessary to protect the walls and the climb from the rain. Instead of plywood or OSB , you can take boards 20-25 mm thick. A ready roof is attached to the booth by means of hinges, and the roofing material or soft tiles are filled on top.
Step 6. Finishing
The finished structure is treated externally with a conventional antiseptic or special impregnation, it is well dried. Then, ruberoid is nailed to the bottom, bending the edges 5 cm onto the walls, and two 100 x 50 mm blocks are attached to the roofing material. The bars are also carefully covered with a primer mix. Again turn the box, make out the laz and the ends of the battens with wooden platbands.
. Step 7. Installation of the
booth The booth is ready and now you need to choose the right place for it. It should be a dry flat area, not far from an apartment house, closed from the wind. It is advisable to choose a well-lit place next to any canopy or tree so that the animal can hide from the heat. Of course, the dog should have an excellent view from its place to notice strangers in time.
Gable-roofed house
Gable roofs are better for small-size booths, since lifting heavy structures is not very convenient when cleaning.
Step 1. Assembling the frame
Of 4 blocks of 50x50 mm, knock down the bottom frame according to the drawing. At the corners, vertical posts are beaten along the height of the booth, and they are connected by a top bandage of the same bars. To strengthen the frame fill additional jumpers on the bottom and on both sides of the hole.
Step 2. Fastening roof rafters
Two identical bar connected between 50x50 mmat an angle of 40 degrees. Then they make one more exactly the same workpiece. Install them on top of the frame of the booth level with the walls, leveling vertically, nailing with nails. On top, connect both pediments with a longitudinal bar, which should protrude 20 cm forward on one side. Cut another 2 bars of the same length and stuff them on the lower ends of the rafters.
Step 3. Sheathing of the booth
The finished structure from the outside is lined with a lining. The boards must be snug against each other so that no gaps remain. The bottom is additionally trimmed with a roofing material, if necessary, the boards-supports are attached.
Step 4. Thermal insulation
. From inside, the frame is lined with pergamon, which is fixed with a stapler in the corners, after which a foam or mineral wool is inserted. Next, the insulation is covered with pergamon and stuffed on the walls and floor with plywood.
Step 5. Cover of the roof
The skeleton of the roof is removed, lined from the inside with plywood, then turned over, plywood is fixed over the plywood. The space between the bars is filled with a heater, the top is covered with a quilt, and then the corrugated sheet is screwed with self-tapping screws. At the junction of the skates, the skate is mounted, the front edges are closed with end slats. To make the roof easy to remove, the ends of the corner posts are driven into the nail, the hats are sewn. In the beams of the pediments, drill holes in the diameter of the nails and then simply put on the roof.
Booth with a tambour
To make a dwelling for a dog more comfortable, you can build a booth with a tambour. This is a structure consisting of two compartments: the far one is a sleeping place, and the near one protects from drafts and cold. Separates their insulated partition with a hole.

It is not necessary to make a sleeper too big - usually dogs sleep curled up. But the dimensions of the vestibule should be such that the dog can freely stretch out to the full height, as well as easily pass through the hole and unfold in the booth. Assembly of a kennel with a tambour is performed as standard;the only difference is the partition: for its manufacture, you need 40x40 mm blocks, a piece of plywood, a heater and screws. From the bars make a frame on the width and height of the inner room. Plywood is cut into two parts;one part nailed to the frame, inserted between the slats insulation, covered with a second part of the plywood. In order for the partition to be freely removed, two wooden slats are taken and by means of the cutter they select longitudinal grooves in the thickness of the partition. Then screw them to the walls of the booth and insert a septum.
