Varieties

The commercially available brick for the furnace has several varieties:

The raw materials used for the production of kiln bricks include refractory clays. Fireclay bricks withstand temperatures up to 1000 ° C and above, literally up to 1800 ° C, they are able to contact chemicals. In some types of kiln bricks add quartz powder, graphite or coke.

Advantages of

In addition to its fire resistance, the kiln brick has a good ability to give away the stored heat for a long time without creating a danger to the surrounding objects by excessive heat, without provoking a fire hazard situation. He perfectly performs his basic tasks - to dissipate and accumulate heat. When laying the shell of the stove or fireplace, products with a strength grade of M-175 or more are needed. Otherwise, the oven will not last long. With all the recommendations, the oven will remain intact for years, because the material will not rot, it will not be destroyed by mold, insects.

Another advantage of oven bricks is the ability to withstand large temperature changes. Furnaces made of this material can be installed in rooms that do not have heating, and even simply on the street.

Disadvantages of

Among the shortcomings can be noted quite a high cost. However, when constructing furnaces, you can not save, ceramic bricks do not work for a furnace, it will collapse very quickly, because the maximum temperature that it can withstand without problems is 800 ° C.

Fireclay bricks from which the firewood is laid has the following technical characteristics:

• density - 1700-1900 kg / m³;
• fire resistance - not lower than 1650 ° С;
• tensile strength - 12-23 N / mm²;
• thermal conductivity - 0,62 W /( m · ° С);
• porosity - 8%;
• frost resistance grade - F15-50;
• grade of strength - M75-250;
• water absorption - 25%.

The external difference between fireclay bricks and other varieties is clearly visible in the photo and video: in color it is yellowish.

According to consumers, low moisture resistance does not allow using this material for other purposes. If you build a house from it, it will be damp, uncomfortable. Therefore, the best sphere of application is the construction of furnaces, fireplaces.

Having decided to purchase a batch of this masonry material, you need to understand how to look like these products. Even a single manufacturer can sell completely different quality products. Therefore at purchase it is necessary to be guided by following indicators:

• to choose a batch with heavier products because the big weight speaks about high density;
• neat regular shape with minimal error;
• quality brick when tapping on it gives a sound that looks like a metal;
• when splitting, the internal structure of the material is visible: it should be of a single even color without spots.

You can check the quality of the products directly at the warehouse of the trade organization. In the store, such manipulation is not worth it.
