To turn a balcony into a cozy place for rest, finished with the help of natural and eco-friendly materials, you can use the cladding with its lining. This task is possible for anyone who knows how to hold an instrument. Sheathing with additional insulation, in addition, will raise the temperature on the balcony by 10-15 degrees. The decoration of the balcony includes several stages.

Purchase the material and prepare the tool

The paneling is best made with a board made of hardwood varieties - a pine lining at elevated temperature can emit resin. Before buying, you need to calculate the area you plan to trim, multiply the resulting value by a factor of 1.3 - the stock required for the fit. The length of the lining should be chosen so that there remain as few cuttings as possible. The grade of the board also varies, grade A differs significantly in price from grades B and C, but it is better processed and does not require grinding. You can save by buying a lining B grade and sand it yourself after the walls are finished.

In addition to the lining board you will need:

  • block 50x40 mm for railings to the floor and ceiling;
  • fixing brackets for plasterboard to fix the rails to the wall while simultaneously leveling them;
  • edging board 20 mm for sex lag;
  • flooring board or plywood;
  • hydro and vapor barrier film;
  • plates of mineral insulation or expanded polystyrene;
  • mounting foam;
  • lug mounting bracket;
  • wood screws 3,5х35 mm and 3,5х75 mm;
  • dowel-nails for fastening brackets and corners to concrete;
  • finishing nails 35 mm for fixing the lining.

Required tool for work:

  • perforator or drill with a drill bit for concrete;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • construction stapler;
  • level;
  • joinery tools and tape measure.

Preparatory work

Before the paneling, the balcony must be prepared: remove the window slopes, the old interior trim, and peel off the peeling paint off the walls. If the balcony is located on the north side, especially in areas with a humid climate, you can cover the walls and concrete fence with an antiseptic to protect against mold and fungus.

If the balcony fence is made of sheet metal, you need to erect a partition of foam blocks with a thickness of one block. Blocks are put on a cement-sand mortar, using a level. After complete drying of the solution, frames or double-glazed units are installed.

Before glazing the balcony, it is necessary to inspect the frames or double-glazed units. If there are wooden elements with signs of rot, they must be replaced or treated with an antiseptic, otherwise the fungus will soon spread to the lining. Inspect the windows, fill all the cracks between them and the wall carefully.

Installation of guiding rails and insulation

It is necessary to fill the lining on the rails - pine blocks 50x40 mm. If the board is placed vertically, the guides are fixed horizontally, and vice versa. The distance between the guides should ensure the convenience of laying the plates of the heater. If you use expanded polystyrene for these purposes, the distance should be equal to the width of the insulation sheet. When using a mineral heater, it is better to reduce it by 0.5 cm - mats laid with some compression will be held without additional fastening. If the sheathing is without insulation, the distance can be made any, but more than 60 cm.

Begin the installation of the guides from the fixing of the staples for gypsum board at the required distance from each other.

After installing all the guides on the walls, foam polystyrene plates are laid in the spaces between them, the free ends of the brackets are folded over them and the gaps are carefully foamed with mounting foam. After drying, the foam is cut with a mounting knife.

Insulate all external walls bordering the street, as well as the ceiling and floor in case the balconies are not insulated from above and below. If you use a mineral insulator that can absorb water, it is necessary to lay under it a waterproofing film - it will not allow moisture to penetrate from the street into the insulation layer. On top of the heater you need to lay a vapor barrier to protect the insulation from moisture evaporation from the inside of the room.

The guides to the ceiling are more convenient to fasten after the wall covering, placing them along the length of the balcony. Extreme bars fasten close to the skin, and intermediate - at a distance, which ensures the convenience of stacking insulation.

Flooring on the balcony of the lining

Before the flooring, it is necessary to install wooden logs from a 20 mm board. The width of the board should be chosen according to the height of the planned floor, usually enough 10 cm. The boards are placed on the end and fastened to the floor with the help of a corner. For fixing the corner to the concrete, a dowel-nail is used, to the blackboard - blackened black screws on wood 3,5х35 mm.

Begin to install logs, making a frame around the perimeter of the balcony floor with an indentation of 2-3 cm from the skin. Inside the frame, transverse logs are set up with a step equal to the width of the heat insulation plate. Fasten them to the floor and the frame with the help of a corner.

Gaps and gaps are covered with mounting foam, and between the lags put a heater and vapor barrier film, fixing it with a construction stapler.

For a clean floor, you can use a hollow sheet or a moisture resistant plywood, after covering it with any finish floor covering.

Cladding of walls and ceiling with clapboard

It's better to start the cladding from the most inconvenient angle - if this angle is left to last, it will be even harder to get to it. The first board is exposed necessarily on a plumb - if it is twisted, it is necessary to level then the whole wall. Keep in mind that at the lining the vent groove is located on the underside of the board, it is necessary for air circulation inside the skin.

The lining is fastened to the rails with the help of finishing nails - small ones with a smaller head. Nails are slaughtered in a groove or in a spike of a board, finishing with the help of a driller flush with wood. They need to be clogged at an angle of about 45 degrees. The first board is attached to all guides, the following - necessarily to the top and bottom, and to the intermediate - through one in a checkerboard pattern.

Each subsequent board is thorned into the groove, gently taped with a hammer through the bar so that dents do not come out, and then nailed with finishing nails, like the first board.

To the planking of the ceiling proceed after finishing the walls. Expose the guides with the help of a level, put the insulation if necessary, fad. Sheathing of the ceiling is best done across the balcony, this simple trick will allow it to be visually expanded.

Finishing and processing

After the plating finish the finish: install skirting boards, corners if necessary, as well as slopes on the windows. They can be made also from a lining or from a drywall. You can order plastic slopes in a company specializing in installing windows.

For protection against sunlight and moisture, and also for preserving the original color, wood is treated with special protective compounds for wood interior trim or acrylic water-based varnish. Before applying the coating, the billet should be grinded and dust-dried if necessary. Coating is applied in two or three layers.
