Internal drainage: what is needed for the storm system?

Rain gutter

Rain gutters are external and internal, they remove water from flat or pitched roofs. The external drainage system is designed simply: under the roof edge, gutters are installed, along which the drain runs. Further, water enters the funnel and descends to the bottom by gravity to the outlet, which enters the sewer system - rain or common.

Such stormers are arranged on pitched roofs with a slope of at least 2 degrees for every 5 meters. Gutters and other parts should be reinforced with fasteners so that the system can withstand the weight of wet snow. The diameter of the gutters and risers is chosen in such a way that the system will work properly at the time of the greatest precipitation level for a given area.

The internal drain is installed on flat roofs, and its risers pass inside the building. For its installation, there are certain rules:

  • location along the longitudinal axis of the roof;
  • the roof is tilted toward the funnel by 1-2 degrees;
  • risers are located in a heated room;
  • 1 cm2 of pipe collects water from a 0.75 meter roof;
  • connection funnel and roof should be leakproof.

What kind of gutters are there?

A building or structure can not be considered complete until a storm system has been installed. If the roof does not end with a special chimney, then an unorganized drainage is obtained. Water from the roof drains, where it pleases, impregnating with moisture and damaging everything in its path.

Due to unpredictability of the streams, a raw facade may appear, the flowerbed is blurred or the track is damaged. In the place of constant flow, mold or fungal damage easily occurs.

Counterweight to chaotic drainage processes - an organized drainage system, when the entire volume of water that gets to the object is directed along a strictly organized path, draining into a common sewage collector. Refuse such a system can only be in dry areas - while you need to consider the amount of moisture that has fallen over the year. Without complex systems, economic or temporary structures that are far from the main housing can also be dispensed with.

Types of gutters are metal and plastic. In areas where there is a small amount of snow, plastic is enough. It is relatively cheap, can be painted in any color, the tightness of the connection is achieved using the adhesive or rubber seals, retains its properties at ambient temperatures down to -40 ° C.

If the winter temperature of the terrain falls below this mark or heavy snow falls, it is better to use a metal system. Here, the metal is coated with a polymer, is not susceptible to corrosion, and the parts themselves are unlimitedly suitable.

What should I look for when choosing a drain?

Building technologies offer a huge selection of products today. How to choose a drainage system? It is necessary to know the approximate level of precipitation and the lower winter temperature of a given area. The capacity of the system must correspond to the amount of flowing liquid.

The drainage system of the round section is familiar to the eye and is most often made of plastic. It is aesthetically and reliably, any person can perform the installation of such a system. The drainage system of rectangular section is made mainly of metal, most often of galvanized steel or copper. Weak places - holders of gutters, here they are made of hot galvanized steel and have a thickness of up to 4 mm.

To install a storm system, you must first calculate the number of pipes, and the installation should begin with a funnel. Preliminarily always draw a drawing, it is through it that you will be easiest to determine the place of the beginning of installation.
