The composition of the masonry mortar in a certain ratio includes an astringent and aggregate, most often sand. These solutions have excellent adhesion and resistance to compression, which makes it possible to build walls that are calculated for large loads. Buildings built using masonry mixtures are particularly durable due to resistance to moisture and cold. The greatest plasticity is observed in calcareous mortar mixtures. Lime gives the solution a good coefficient of thermal conductivity, which positively affects the microclimate in the room.

If any of the technical indicators of the substance require improvement, a specific additive may be included in the formulation. Thus, the addition of expanded clay improves the properties of thermal insulation, and the colored mix can be obtained from the addition of various dyes. The main additives that are used are setting catalysts, plasticizers and pigments for coloring.

Important! To calculate the required amount of additives, you should contact a specialist.

How is the mix used?

In order for the mixing mixture to give the maximum effect, it is necessary to prepare the surface to be coated well. It must be free of defects and dry, free from all substances that can interfere with the adhesion of the solution to the surface. To prepare the mixture, it is necessary to pour water into the container with the calculation of 200 grams per kilogram of the substance. All this is mixed until the formation of a creamy mass. After this, the mixture is insisted for five minutes, after which it can be used for two hours.

The technology of using a mortar is to apply a uniform layer to the surface of the trowel. The mixture that remained after laying is removed and reused. The consumption of the mixing mixture averages 1.75 kilograms per square meter with a layer thickness of one millimeter. The optimum temperature for working from +5 to +30 degrees Celsius. The greatest efficiency is observed when performing works in +20 degrees and humidity of air no more than 60%.

Note! If the temperature and humidity do not correspond to the norm, the hardening and setting time will change.

How to choose a good mixture?

When selecting a mixing mixture, it is necessary to pay attention to the following indices:

  • Strength;
  • Plasticity;
  • Good adhesion;
  • High degree of water repellent.

Strength depends on the binding agents in the composition. In addition, it affects the basis on which it will be applied. So, the strength of the solution will be much higher when applied to a porous material, and when applied to a dense surface, on the contrary, it will be worse.

Plasticity affects the ability to lay flat and thin layers of mortar. Good plasticity makes it possible to smooth out all irregularities on the base and to qualitatively adhere to its surface. In addition, this factor increases worker productivity and masonry quality.

Good adhesion is the quality of adhesion to masonry elements, resistance to tearing and shearing. The higher the adhesion, the greater the bond strength of all elements among themselves. Water repellency plays an important role when laying the solution on porous materials. Also, this factor affects the stability of the mixture to delamination during transport. Paying attention to these qualities of the mixture, you can be sure that you will buy quality products.

Important! When buying a mixture, check the certificate, this will protect you from buying a fake.
