LED lighting appeared on the market of electrical goods relatively recently. In this short period of time, LEDs quickly became the sales leaders, replacing the classic Ilyich lamps, as well as halogen and fluorescent light sources.

The original idea for the interior

Advantages of products are the following:

  • high energy-saving properties( it can be said that the highest among all existing light sources);
  • does not pollute the environment( as opposed to mercury lamps);
  • service life can be up to 15 years( one of the most important advantages);
  • high light output;
  • simple installation and maintenance of the lighting system;
  • have minimal heat dissipation( unlike incandescent lamps, which convert most of the electricity into heat, not light);
  • housing has high strength;
  • can be used in places with high humidity and dustiness.

As for the shortcomings, it is one - too high a price. Personally, our opinion tends to the fact that this shortcoming is not at all convincing. This is due to the fact that the lamp quickly pays for itself due to high energy-saving properties. Summing up and weighing all the pros and cons, one can say that the pluses of LED lighting for an apartment and a house are much more weighty than minuses.

Where better to use?

To date, the installation of LED lighting can be used anywhere: in the house, apartment, landscape design, car decoration and even in industrial premises. As for the interior, LED lights are best installed in the living room, in the hall, in the bedroom and in the kitchen.

The living room( actually, as well as the hall) is the place of reception of friends, as well as a room where you can sit and watch TV.Typically, the interior of the living room includes a variety of "highlights" - niches in the wall, cabinets with accessories, etc. Here they can be beautifully illuminated with LED strip.

In the kitchen, in fact, as in the bedroom, very often hidden lighting is used. To install it, you need to make a cornice, and then put inside the same LED ribbon.

As for the corridor and the bathroom, then it is necessary to install spotlights. The tape in this case is not very appropriate to apply.

Basics of calculating

Before making LED lighting in an apartment or house, it is necessary to make the appropriate calculations in order to know the quantity and type of the required material. When replacing luminaires( for example, you decided to replace the halogen lamps with light-emitting diodes), it makes no sense to completely change the wiring. Usually a replacement is made if the new equipment is more powerful than the old, and in our case, the diodes will consume even less electricity. This is good, because there is no need to calculate the cable cross-section, and also to acquire new wiring elements. All you need is to calculate the power of the tape, which will be enough for the room, or to choose the number of spotlights correctly.

We draw your attention to the fact that today there are a lot of free programs for calculating LED lighting in an apartment and a country house. They include many criteria for calculating the necessary luminous flux: the area of the room, the material and color of the walls, the size and location of the windows, etc.

If you want to perform a manual calculation, we provide for your attention the two stages of which this event is composed.

Step 1 - Choosing the right power supply for the tape

For the operation of the LED tape, you need a power supply unit( PSU), through which the current will flow from the network.

Power supply for LED tape

Power Supply

To properly select a PSU for installing LED lighting in an apartment, you first need to calculate the power consumption of the tape. Each product has its own characteristics: working voltage, length, power consumption 1 meter length. We need to know the total power of the product of the n-th length.

For example, you bought a 7-meter tape with a power of 7.2 W / m. Usually it is sold in cassettes of 5 meters. Total we must have 2 pieces of 5 meters, one of which will need to be shortened.

We draw your attention to the fact that the LED strip can be cut to the required length, but it needs to be done in special places. Most often, the factory provides places for cutting through every 3 LEDs.

Correct cutting into parts

Total, the total power of the product will be:

Pobshch = P * L = 7 * 7.2 = 50, 4W.

For normal operation of the power supply unit, it is necessary to provide a power reserve( at least 20%).Total: 50.4 * 1.2 = 60.5 watts. In the store you need to buy a power unit with a capacity not less than calculated.

Step 2 - Calculate the number of luminaires

If you decide to use classic lighting in a flat, then you also need to perform calculations. To do this, you only need to know the power of the luminaire, which is always indicated on the package.

The formula for calculation will look like:

The calculation formula

Where: Ore is the specific power of the luminaire( for residential premises with LED lighting it is approximately 2.5 W per square meter);

S - the area of the room;

Кс - demand factor, in our case 1.

Total, if you decided to calculate LED lighting for a bathroom, then you need 2.5 * 6( approximate bathroom area) and 1, which will result in 15 watts. Next, you need to decide on the number of lamps. There is already everything to your taste: buy 3 to 5 watts, or 1 to 15 watts.

Creating a schema

It's all simple. The number of necessary fixtures has already been calculated. Now you need to choose where to install them. To do this, it is recommended to use a photocopy of the room plan, which shows all the exact dimensions of the rooms, the location of the windows and doors.

To your attention an example of the lighting scheme in the apartment:

After creating the scheme, you need to buy all the electrical wiring elements and proceed to the installation.

Mounting

Installing LED lighting in an apartment and a house is not difficult. The manufacturer provides such a design of products that allows you to quickly and effortlessly install the lamps yourself.

Fastening tape

One side of the LED tape is self-adhesive. All you need is to create a cornice under a hidden backlight, and place a tape in it, pasting it onto the prepared surface.

Blue backlight

Cornice for LED lighting can be made of gypsum board, and can be purchased already finished - polyurethane.

It should be noted that the power supply inside the cornice is better not to put, becauseit heats up and can cause danger. If the LED tape is short and of low power, then the BP can be put into the box without hesitation.

luminaires The spotlights have a fairly simple and convenient design, which is represented by a round body with swinging paws.

Spotlight

To make the LED lighting in the apartment yourself, you need to cut a round hole in the plasterboard ceiling( or wall), lay the wiring in a hidden way to it and connect it to the lamp. We recommend using the method of connecting wires - terminal blocks WAGO.They are inexpensive and securely fasten the wires of even different sections and material veins.

After connecting the wires together, you can install the product in the seat. For this, the paws are tightened by hand and the casing is neatly placed in the so-called stunt. In the end, it is necessary to connect the light switch. Do this only when power is off!
