Required materials
It is not difficult to assemble a wooden goat for sawing wood with your own hands. But in work it is recommended to use strong materials. To maximize the life of the structure, it is necessary to pre-treat the wood with an antiseptic. This will protect the materials from the effects of moisture, prevent their damage by harmful insects.
A wooden goat is made for sawing firewood with parameters of 1x1 m. This size is sufficient for sawing large logs and small stumps. Before starting work, the contractor will need to prepare the following materials and auxiliary products:
- cant: 6 units with a length of 1 meter;
- board: 4 units with a length of 1 meter and a width of about 7-8 cm;
- M8 bolts: 3 pieces;
- nuts and washers: 3 pieces each;Wood screws: 24 pieces.
From these materials and consumables it is possible to assemble a compact folding goat that will have increased stability. In addition, the work requires a screwdriver, a saw on the tree.
Step-by-step instruction for making saw goats
Work on the manufacture of goats for sawing wood begins with the preparation of holes for bolts. For this it is necessary to put two supports on each other( lateral ribs) and at a mark of 70 cm from the bottom edge to drill the holes.
Then between them, you need to install a M8 bolt with a semicircular bonnet.
It is necessary to connect the first pair of legs, tighten the bolt, install the washer and nut.
Repeat the procedure for two more reference pairs. Further work is carried out according to the following scheme:
1. Using a jigsaw, a board is cut, prepared to fasten the legs. If the boards are harvested according to the given parameters( with a width of 7-8 cm), they should not be sawed.
2. On a pair of boards located on one side of the goat, two vertical holes should be drilled at a distance of 67 mm from each edge( see the goat drawing).In addition, holes are drilled from one side at a distance of 245 mm.
3. On the second pair of boards you need to prepare the following pairs of vertical holes: at a distance of 22 mm from the edge on both sides, at a distance of 335 mm from one edge.
4. Prepared boards, pre-divided in pairs, are screwed to the legs: the bottom at a distance of 80 mm from the edge, the top at a distance of 535 mm from the edge( see the scheme of a wooden goat).Indented indents are measured to the bottom line of the board.
When paired, it is important that the indents match. The displacement of fixation points for the left and right cross members excludes their fastening to one beam, which increases the strength of the structure.
Features of storage and operation of goats
When carrying out the work according to the specified instructions, it is recommended to additionally use the attached drawings, photos and video materials. They will help to easily manufacture strong saw goats. The finished structure is able to withstand a lot of weight, but it is important to store it under normal conditions: a dry room. The constant exposure to moisture or moist air will lead to the destruction of materials.
It is especially important to take into account the rules of using the workpiece. It is not recommended to overload heavy logs. Folding goats are used for sawing firewood with a chainsaw and a hand saw. A reliable design will become indispensable in a summer residence or in a private house.
