Self-installing skirting board for kitchen worktops

The final stage in the arrangement of the kitchen is usually the installation of a skirting board for the countertop - although it's worth acknowledging that this moment is not less often even seen at all, and completely in vain. If you order a kitchen set with its installation, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about - the plinth will be installed along with the rest of the master.

I'm talking about the self-installation of this final element of the kitchen set, and I'll start perhaps with its advantages:

  • skirting on the kitchen counter protects it from moisture and food;
  • also it reliably closes the gap between the wall and the table top and nothing can fall there;
  • finally, the presence of a plinth gives your kitchen a complete and presentable look.

If you bought a kitchen set in a complete set, the skirting board should already be there. If it does not, you will have to buy it separately. To choose simply enough - be guided by width of a crack between a wall and a table-top, a material from which it is made and on subjects of kitchen furniture. If the table top is wooden, the plinth must also be wooden, if marble, then either marble or aluminum.

For example, I have a bar in the kitchen and there is a chrome rail along the countertop - you could buy the same chrome plinth. By the way, I chose the color of the countertop, so that it does not stand out and only fulfilled its functions. So the choice of color ai material is dictated by your preferences and your kitchen.

Skirting boards are sold in sets, which include:

  1. stubs on the edges of the plinth
  2. the plinth itself( length is usually 1 and 2 meters)
  3. corners
  4. decorative profile
  5. fasteners

The plinth is installed similarly to the floor - drill holes in the wall, insert the dowels, fix the baseskirting and close the profile. Then fasten the corners( if the kitchen corner) and the stubs on the edges. By the way, the joint between the table top and the baseboard would be nice to be greased with a sealant to isolate it and prevent water leakage.

As an option, you can buy not a special plinth for the countertop, but a plain, wooden or plastic one, and fasten it in the same way.
