Warm sun rays can cause serious discomfort in the apartment. Getting into the room, they not only create unpleasant sensations for the eyes, but also cause a rise in temperature. For those who do not want to protect themselves from this phenomenon with heavy curtains, there is an optimal solution - window tinting with a special film.
Film: purpose and types
The main purpose of protective window films is the filtration of solar radiation. They reflect light waves of a certain size, preventing their penetration into the room. Operational properties are similar in many respects to simple sunglasses - specially treated surface artificially filters the radiation spectrum.
The main task of the protective coating is to reflect the infrared( thermal) waves. The film is manufactured by rolling several layers of polyester. The number of layers of the initial material determines the thickness of the product, and the additional( color) components - the filtering ability.
For window tinting, you need to use special architectural types. Depending on the factory processing and the composition of the raw material, it is divided into the following types:
- Sun-protection. Performs only the functions of filtering light.
- With a mirror surface. In addition to reflecting abilities, the outer mirror layer does not allow to see from the street what is happening in the room.
- Tinted and firming. Due to the increase in thickness, the film performs not only reflective, but also protective functions. Used for panoramic windows in both public and private buildings.
For living space, it is recommended to choose products with an index from 20% to 40% of shading. Their installation will reduce the amount of sunlight, while retaining the relative transparency of the window structure.
Technology of pasting
Before carrying out the work it is necessary to clarify that high-quality pasting is possible only in the factory. This is due to the specifics of the production process. The technology of applying the film to the glass surface occurs according to the following steps:
- Cutting the workpiece. Its dimensions should be 5-10 mm less than the dimensions of the glass.
- Degreasing the surface.
- Application of a special transparent adhesive.
- Film laying.
- Alignment on the glass surface.
- Manufacturing of double-glazed windows. The glass is installed inside the film.
In this case, sterile cleanliness is observed - special equipment is installed to remove dust.
In order to realize this process at home, the following materials and tools will be required:
- Sun protection film. The size of the glass is measured in advance - the film dimensions should be 3-4 cm larger.
- Soap solution. For its preparation, it is best to use a colorless liquid soap, diluted with water in a proportion of 1: 3.
- 2 spatula - with a soft sponge( automotive) and a hard rubber tip.
- Rags.
Many try to glue the film without dismantling the glass unit. It should be taken into account that in the process of shrinkage, the dimensions of the coating may change in the smaller direction - on the glass there will appear areas around the bead, on which there will be no film. To avoid this, the glass unit is first dismantled. If the windows of the old sample( 2 separate glasses) - the film is glued to the inner surface of the outer glass.
At the first stage, the surface of the glass is degreased. It is processed with a water solution and with the help of a spatula with a sponge, all moisture is removed. Then spray a uniform layer of soap solution. Most of it is cleaned with a sponge. Then, on the glass, the film is laid back and the protective layer is removed. Carefully take the film, turn it over and apply it to the top of the glass. Using a staple with a rubber tip, we evenly apply a protective layer.
Use a rag to remove air bubbles. Smooth movements from the center of the structure to the edges align the surface. It is worth noting that this way to get rid of all the bubbles will not succeed - macroscopic elements will still remain. They should disappear during the final drying - during drying the film sizes decrease and the internal pressure will remove the air chambers. At the end it is possible to install a double-glazed unit in the structure. With the help of glazing beads, the film will acquire an additional fixation. In the future, when washing the windows is not recommended to exert efforts - the film can either be damaged, or shifted relative to the glass.
