The electric heating of the walls did not gain much popularity, like the heating system of a house or an apartment. This is due to the many shortcomings of this idea, as well as some difficulty in laying the heating cable( or film) on a vertical surface. Next, we will consider the technology of installing a warm floor on a wall and provide the main advantages and disadvantages of such a heating option for rooms.

We weigh the pros and cons

Vertical heating of the room

So, from the disadvantages of wall warming with an electric warm floor, we can distinguish the following:

  1. Poor heat exchange. Becausethe heating element will be in the wall, the heat must first pass through the finishing layer( plaster or GCR sheets), after which only get to the heated room. Here the following picture is formed - the heating will capture only the first 15-20 cm from the surface and the heated air will rise to the ceiling. As a result, heating will be inefficient and additional electric heaters will have to be installed additionally.
  2. You can not attach furniture and household appliances to the wall. It's also obvious - any cabinets, refrigerators, televisions and shelves will interfere with the weak warming up of the room. In addition, direct exposure to heat can adversely affect both furniture( it will begin to crack), and electrical appliances( overheating).
  3. Significant heat loss. Heat will be radiated not only inside the house, but also outside( to the outside of the wall).Under the infrared film underlay foil insulation can not, therefore you yourself understand how this will reduce the efficiency of warming up.
  4. Reducing the versatility of vertical surfaces. If you do not provide special fasteners at the time of installation of a warm floor, then in the future, after finishing, it is unlikely that you will get a TV on the wall or even a picture without damaging the heating element.
  5. Offset of the dew point to the inside. One of the most important drawbacks of electric wall heating. As a rule, condensate accumulates between a cold and warm surface. If under normal conditions this occurs on the outside of the buildings, when the heating cable or film is laid, the dew point will be approximately the middle of the wall. As a result, it will freeze more cold in winter and will collapse more quickly. In addition, the likelihood of mold and fungus will increase many times.
  6. Increased electricity costs. Electric warm walls are not the most economical heating system. Although the heating cable on a vertical surface can be stacked with increased pitch, still the electricity consumption will be significant. And what for it is necessary, if efficiency of heating will be low enough?
  7. Decorative wall decoration will serve less. With electric heating of the vertical surface there is no guarantee that in a few months you will not get unstuck wallpaper. In addition, if you incorrectly choose a solution when installing a warm floor under a tile( for example, in a bathroom), it may fall off after the first heating season. Do not worry, only if the walls are protected with plasterboard.

As you can see, there are a lot of drawbacks to such a heating system and they are all weighty. We got acquainted with a lot of discussions on the forums and found only two main advantages of laying the warm floor on the wall:

  1. With vertical heating, the dust will not spread around the room.
  2. As the heating cable or the infrared film fits into the wall, the rooms will become more spacious.

Now you can draw a conclusion, whether it is possible to carry out installation of a warm floor on a wall. If, nevertheless, you decided to use such an electric heating system, read further on how to properly fix the heating cable and the film.

Mounting technique

Cable heating

So, in order to make an electric floor heating on the wall with your own hands, you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. Insulate the inside of the surface with foamed polyethylene with a foil base.
  2. Fasten the metal mesh to the wall using dowels. Instead of the grid, you can also use the mounting tape, as in the photo below. Mounting with mounting tape
  3. Install the heating elements by fixing them mechanically.
  4. Connect the temperature sensor and thermostat. It is not necessary to connect the wires to the 220 V network.
  5. Coat the so-called warm walls with a layer of rough stucco.
  6. When the first layer solidifies, apply a finishing layer, clap it and go to the decorative wall decoration.
  7. After 4 weeks you can safely turn on the heating and check how effective it is.

We draw your attention to the fact that for laying the tiles over the warm floor you need to use a special tile adhesive, otherwise after a time your decorative finish will simply begin to pour.

If, on top of the cable heating of the walls, you decide to make a plasterboard finish, then the mounting technology is even easier. Instead of laying the tiles, you will need to assemble the frame from profiles and sew it with sheets of GKL, having pre-connected all the circuit elements and installing the thermostat in a suitable place.

Infrared film

Installing infrared warm floor on the wall is much easier. Usually this option is used on the balcony, which is finished with a lining or plasterboard slabs. In this case, you must take into account an important nuance - the use of foil-insulated thermal insulation is strictly prohibited. If you want to further insulate the loggia, it is better to find an alternative heat reflector without the use of foil.

Film coating installation

After laying the heat-reflective layer, you need to make a frame for fixing the trim and fix the film covering in suitable places. Next, connect the wires and insulate the exposed contacts. The last thing that remains to be done is to connect a temperature sensor and a temperature controller. After checking the heating system, you can turn it on immediately.

Consider the important nuance - do not apply tile glue over the film coating. Laying the infrared warm floor is done only "on dry"!
