Materials for making the lid on the well with their own hands

It's not at all difficult to make a lid on the well yourself, but often people resort to purchased products.

There are powerful arguments for this.

Manhole covers are closed for several reasons.

For decorative reasons, to protect water from pollution, to prevent accidents.

So, the sewer hatches must be closed to prevent pedestrians from entering them.

Wells with drinking water must be hidden from falling leaves and small animals. To quickly get to the drainage manifold, the lids are best to choose lightweight plastic.

Inside the wells can be decorated with different materials. For drainage or sewage wells, plastic pipes are often used.

Concrete rings can also be used for these purposes. A well for drinking water can be built using a set of reinforced concrete rings.

Can also be trimmed with wood, brick or stone. All these features determine the choice of the lid for the well.

Types of covers

All varieties are reduced to the differences in the materials from which they are made.

Plastic caps are manufactured in factories, they can not be made by their own hands. With your own hands, you can only install it, it is not difficult.

Installation is to dress it on a concrete ring, as in the photo. More often, such coatings are made of polyurethane. This material is strong enough, and also serves well for insulation.

Plastic cover

These covers are excellent for covering a drainage well.

Concrete covers are made with the addition of metal reinforcement. They can be without a hatch or with it. Then the hole is closed with a door made of wood, plastic or metal.

These covers can be mounted on the upper ring or between the first and second. For installation, you can use the factory product or you can do it yourself.

Can also be used for drainage or sewage wells.

Cast iron hatches are produced exclusively in factories. They are designed to withstand heavy loads, and therefore are manufactured according to GOSTs. The shape of the product is often round.

Hatch from cast iron

The photo shows typical cast-iron products. Such products are very heavy and often subject to theft. They are characterized by a long service life.

Cast iron covers are bolted to a pre-installed reinforced concrete base. More often used to cover the drainage and sewerage well.

Wooden covers are best made from hard wood. Such a cover for a couple of evenings you can make yourself.

If desired, it can be made as a conventional flap or with folding doors. Several options are presented in the photo.

The appearance of such products is very attractive, besides the cost is quite pleasant. Of course, such lids are devoid of advantages, which, for example, are endowed with cast-iron hatches, but they have a number of advantages.

The most weighty is, perhaps, the cost, as well as the possibility of making your own hands. For the drainage hatch, such covers are rarely used, it is more likely an option for a well with drinking water.

Steel covers are also very reliable. It can be just a metal plate or a combination of a metal frame and a plastic sheet. Such coatings can also be made warmed.

Having dealt with the types of lids on the wells, you can go to the topic of their creation with their own hands. There is also something to choose from.

Single lid made of wood

It is not difficult to make such a lid with your own hands, but with proper wood processing, the product can last for a long time.

Wooden cover is made of boards with a thickness of two centimeters, with crossbeams from the bars. As a raw material, a birch or lime tree is perfect.

Do not do without sealant for seams and paints. It is also better to stock up in advance a scattering of nails and handles made of wood or metal.

The boards are fastened one-on-one to the guide bars. The length of the boards should correspond to the dimensions of the shield.

For greater strength on the reverse side of the cover, a diagonal crossbeam is stuffed. Then cover better grind and trim excess if necessary.

In this case, the seams are sealed with a sealant for wood, it will help with deformations of the wood to keep the product intact. Another way is to cut the seams from the backside with thin slats.

After the sealant has dried, a paint coat on the oil base is applied. More often such covers are not attached to the well, although variants are possible.

The final touch is the connection of the handles for convenience. If you need to open the hatch, then the flap simply pushes it aside.

Complicated lid with

doors The wooden lid with doors looks much more impressive than a simple hatch in the ground. It is a shield in shape and size overlapping the hole of the well with the opening flaps.

Doors "sit" on long hinges. To work with their own hands you will need boards, as in the first case, and two types of bars: dimensions 40x40 and 20x20 mm.

Metal hinges and handles are also needed. Other materials are the same as for a conventional shield.

The first thing is going to a wooden base of boards. Do it on bars of 40x40 size and arrange the elements so that inside there is an opening for future doors.

Cover with door to the well

Further two leaflets from boards and bars are formed. At this stage, all elements are ground and treated with sealant for joints.

After the door is attached to the main board and equipped with metal handles. The finished structure is treated with a drying oil to impart moisture resistance, and then a layer of paint or varnish.

Such decorative cover on the well has a rather attractive appearance. In addition, it is more convenient to use, to access the water you just need to open the doors.

If the house has children, then to protect them from falling it is possible to provide a lock.

Insulated wooden hatch

To prevent the water from freezing in winter, in some cases, the wooden covers are insulated. They do the same as the previous two versions with the only difference that the insulated lid is double-layered.

After the formation of the wooden shield on the opposite side, the same shield is collected. In the space obtained, the insulation material is laid.

In simplified form, this can be straw or sawdust. Also, do not forget about sealing joints and coating the product with a protective layer of paint and varnish.

Concrete cover

In this way it is possible to decorate the hatch of a drainage or sewer well. If there are concrete rings in the base of the well, then it is also logical to make the lid of the same.

This can be a solid construction or you can provide a hatch. The hole after installation can be equipped with a door or above the hatch to make a canopy in the form of a roof made of bricks or wood.

Homemade lid made of concrete is made of cement, sand and reinforcing mesh. Also need boards for formwork and polyethylene film.

The manufacturing process begins with digging a round pit with a diameter corresponding to the size of the rings.

The depth of the pit should be 10 centimeters. The bottom is covered with a film and a wooden square limiter is installed to keep the hole in the center.

After mixing the solution, it is sent to an improvised form.

It needs to be filled in stages. After the first five centimeters, the reinforcement net is laid in the concrete, then the pit is filled to the end. Below the photo shows a cover made of concrete.

Concreting the lid

Such concrete products dries out within four days. After drying, the lid can be mounted on the well.

This is done with cement mortar so as not to leave any slits. Then the door is installed in place.

Plastic cover on metal frame

Such covers serve longer than wood, in addition it is easier and more convenient to use than concrete ones.

They are a combination of two parts: the upper part is a movable frame with a plastic sheet, and the bottom, attached to the bottom of the well.

A similar product is produced from metal corners and profile pipes with a square in cross section. Also, loops, plastic sheet, sealant and paint will be needed.

The manufacturing process is quite laborious, but everyone can do it. From the cut corners the frame of the lid and the base is assembled. Angles for the convenience of welding are cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

After the seams are cleaned. To impart rigidity and strength of the structure, profile tubes are welded on the hatch cover along the perimeter and crosswise in the center.

The seams are also pinched by the Bulgarian for greater accuracy. At the end of the cover on both sides are fastened plastic sheets, between them for insulation can be put a layer of insulation.

For these purposes, foam, mineral wool and the like can serve.

A metal frame is placed on the base of the well, as well as made of metal in the form of a hole in the well, the formwork is prepared from wooden boards along the perimeter.

The remaining space is poured with concrete. After three or four days, the concrete dries and you can continue to work.

Two lid elements are fastened using metal hinges. The last step is to process the seams with a sealant and cover the elements with enamel.

After attaching the handle, the work can be considered finished.
