Thermal insulation of steam room: general rules of

Before making the insulation of walls from the inside with your own hands, you need to prepare the surfaces. The base is carefully inspected for fungus and mold, protrusions, any foreign inclusions. If there is a fungus, then it is eliminated. For this, the walls are sprayed with antiseptic for the sauna "Snow sauna" or any other, bought in the store.

When selecting materials for future work, it is important to pay attention to their safety, since the thermostat constantly has a high temperature, which the material must withstand. Also, they must be durable, do not rot and do not absorb moisture. In this case, basalt products in rolls , as well as aluminum foil for vapor barrier insulation, are well suited.

During insulation of the steam room, not only the building materials used, but also the technology itself, are important. In the course of the work, a kind of "sandwich" is obtained, which consists of the skin, vapor barrier, insulation and waterproofing layer. Each of them performs its functions.

The technology of wall insulation in the steam room

As already mentioned, the insulation of the steam room of the sauna from the frame is carried out according to the technology, during which a "sandwich" is obtained, consisting of the following layers:

  • waterproofing is necessary to prevent mold, fungus, and also there was no putrefaction. It is this layer that protects the walls from the condensate, which forms when exposed to hot air on the surface. As a material for waterproofing, foil or polyethylene film is well suited.
  • Thermal insulation - begins with mounting on the base of clean paper and only then the insulation. This paper layer is needed to ensure that no harmful substances are released into the air. Plus, paper also minimizes the loss of hot air. Next, a wooden frame is installed with a width equal to the width of the insulation. As a material for thermal insulation, a synthetic slab or a mineral wool is used most often.
  • Steam insulation - designed to protect the previous layer from the effects of steam, as well as to reflect thermal radiation. Thus, a kind of "thermos" effect is obtained. For this layer, a foil of about 65 μm is used. Mount it to the wooden crate with a stapler or small nails. All joints and edges should be carefully covered with foil, since penetration of steam into the heater is not permissible( to avoid condensation).

Note! It is not desirable to use pergamina, roofing material and roofing as a vapor barrier material, since unpleasant odors will subsequently form.

  • Interior cladding - implies cladding by lining. On top of the vapor barrier layer, a frame is mounted on which a lining from aspen, maple, alder, linden is applied. Specially selected breeds of wood with a minimum density.

Thermal insulation in the steam room

The insulation of the ceiling in the thermae is carried out using a similar technology, with only a few differences. First, the heat-insulating layer should be 2 times wider than the wall layer. As the steam rises and it is important that it does not come out.

Secondly, it is important to lay a mixture consisting of clay, sand and sawdust on top of the first layer of insulation( glass wool). After complete drying, a layer of foam is applied. Well and further a layer of a cement mortal and foam plastic crumb. At the final stage, also make a wooden crate, which is filled with insulation and lining.

To insulate the ceiling, it is important to take maximum responsibility, because due to non-compliance with at least one point of technology, we obtain a steam room that is not capable of retaining steam. Or because of poor waterproofing, rot and mold are produced.
