No wall in the building, including the walls in the bathroom, is perfectly flat - I'm not talking about modern buildings. Moreover, during construction it is impossible to achieve absolute parallelism of opposite walls. Therefore, when installing the bath, there is always some gap, a gap between the sides of the bath and the walls of the room, and as a result, water flows on the floor and even higher humidity in the room.

There are many ways to seal these slots. Each owner of the apartment thinks something out, based on circumstances. You can seal a gap, for example, with cement or some other suitable building material. However, the durability of such a "design" remains in doubt. The best solution is to glue a special plinth on the bathtub.

This product is called in different ways: plinth, curb, bathroom corner. There are three main types of such plinths: tape, plastic and ceramic. There is also a VIP( from marble, etc.), but there is a separate talk about them, since they do not have wide application.

 Ceramic skirting boards are not recommended for installation by yourself. The technology of their installation is quite complicated, and without the services of a professional, it is unlikely to manage. If, of course, take care of the quality of the work.

Therefore, for self-installation it is better to use tape or plastic skirting boards. However, in their installation there are some differences, so we will briefly describe each type of plinth.

skirting board installation

Belt plinth

They are made on the basis of polyethylene, and they are self-adhesive. They do not have high strength, but it is enhanced with a bath sealant. Mounted by gluing.

Plastic skirting board

It is considered the most economical and easy-to-install type of curbs. On sale there are not only straight skirting boards, which are easily cut, but also different corners. Therefore, using such plinths, it is possible to reliably "isolate" a bath of any size and configuration. To fasten the plastic used liquid nails, silicone glue. All installation is reduced to the correct marking of the elements of the overall edging of the bath and their gluing. One side to the bathtub, the other to the wall. And you can glue both on the tile, and "under" it( on the wall).Such work can be done by anyone, even an inexperienced person. The main thing is then to work well with the sealant joints of stripes of plinth, corners. However, one should take into account that over time, the edges of the plastic can "rise" and it will start to flow through the moisture. Therefore, it is better to lay the wall tile on top of the skirting board.

General activities for both types of plinth:

  1. prepare the surface;
  2. pre-seal the slit sealant;
  3. after drying, apply liquid nails;
  4. tightly press the plinth( tape);
  5. seal joints;
  6. to dry the bonding spots.
