We calculate the required number of tiles for the bathroom

click fraud protection

Choose your favorite tile for the bathroom - only the first step, you still need to calculate the number as accurately as possible so that you do not overpay for extra tiles, but also not encounter a situation when at the end of the work there is not enough one-thing, and in stores this collection is alreadyover.

For accurate calculations, you need paper and pen, as well as a calculator and a tape measure. Before the calculations you need to decide whether tiles will be laid on the floor under the bathroom, and whether the apron is covered with a bath on it. Once again, clarify what the size of the tiles you like.

The first thing to do is to make the most accurate measurements in the bathroom and fix:

  • the width of all the walls,
  • the height to which the tile will be laid,
  • the parameters of the doorway and all sections on the walls and floor that you are not going to tile,
  • width andlength of bath or shower.

Manual calculations

As a rule, in shops consultants offer to calculate the required number of tiles for free, but if necessary( or a desire to double-check) you can do it yourself.

In order to find out how many tiles fit on any surface, you first need to find out how many tiles come in a row in width and height. For this purpose, the width and height of the wall, or the width and length of the floor, are divided by turn into the length of the tile, if it is square. If a rectangular tile is chosen, it is necessary to take into account the direction of its layout. The resulting number of tiles is rounded up and multiplied.

If there are plots in the bathroom that are not laid out with tiles, then it is calculated separately for them, whichever number of pieces is needed, and then it is taken from the total. The result for all the walls is added and added 10-15% for cutting and fighting.

To calculate the necessary number of curbs and other decorative elements, they use the same principles - first of all they look how many such elements will go along the length or width of the room. If you plan to combine a tile of 2 or more colors, then for each of them calculations are made separately.

Useful advices

  • The most economical laying is straight when the tile edges run parallel to the floor. Laying unbroken, with a shift of one row relative to another slightly increases the consumption of material, and diagonal makes it very noticeable.
  • For smaller baths or rooms with a complex shape and a multitude of projections, it is better to choose a tile of smaller dimensions, since less waste will be generated when working with it.
  • All roundings are calculated when calculating the number of tiles, if it is calculated how many tiles need to be subtracted, then round off to a smaller side.

To calculate the required number of tiles 40 * 40 cm in size in the bathroom in a 1.5 * 1.8 m bathroom proceed as follows.

  1. Find out how many tiles fit in one row in width: 150 cm: 40 cm = 3.75.Total, 4 pieces.
  2. Similarly, how many tiles will go in length: 180 cm: 40 cm = 4.5.Total, 5 pieces.
  3. Multiply the number of tiles and get what you need 20 pieces. With a margin, it is better to take 23 pieces.

Let the walls in the same bathroom be decided to lay on a height of 2 meters with a tile of 40 * 30 cm, placing it horizontally. Calculations are carried out for each wall separately.

  1. Wall 1, 180 * 200 cm in size with a bath height of 70 cm, for which a plastic apron is assumed: 180 cm: 40 cm = 4.5, i.е.5 pcs., 200 cm: 30 cm = 6.66, i.e.7 pcs. Total, 35 pcs. The bathroom would be gone( here we round off to a smaller side, since then we will subtract this tile): 180 cm: 40 cm = 4,5, i.е.4 pcs., 70 cm: 30 cm = 2.33, i.e.2 pieces, only 8 pcs. For wall 1 you need 35-8 = 27 tiles.
  2. Wall 2, size 150 * 200 cm, with the end of the bathroom 70 * 70 cm: 150 cm: 40 cm = 3.75, i.e.4 pieces, 200 cm: 30 cm = 6.66, i.e.7 pcs. Total, 28 pcs. On the unlined site in the end of the bathroom would take 2 whole tiles( 70 cm: 30 cm = 2.33, ie 2 pieces and 70 cm: 40 cm = 1.75, i.e. 1 piece, only 2PC.).That is, you need 28-2 = 26 pieces.
  3. Wall 3, 180 * 200 cm in size with a door 200 * 60 cm. It would take 35 pieces to cover the whole wall, just like on wall 1.On the door: 60 cm: 40 cm = 1.5, i.е.1 piece, 200 cm: 30 cm = 6.66, i.e.6 pcs., Total 6 pcs. In total, you will need 35-6 = 29 tiles.
  4. Wall 4, size 150 * 200 cm, with the end of the bathroom 70 * 70 cm. As on the wall 2, 26 pieces.
  5. All for the facing of the walls of the bathroom will leave 27 * 2 + 26 + 29 = 109 pcs. With allowance for stock - 120 tiles.

Useful programs

Calculate the required amount of bathroom tiles by using on-line calculators, simply by entering in the search bar: "bathroom tile calculator".Most programs are arranged in the same way. From you you need to select the preferred units of measurement( millimeters, centimeters or meters), type of layout, specify the dimensions of the room and the expected height of the masonry, choose the thickness of the joints, the dimensions of the tile itself, and the doorway, bathroom and other surfaces that will not be lined.

Then the program itself will calculate the number of tiles to be purchased. To it you need to add 10-15% for trimming and marriage( the bigger the tile, the more), but some programs do it themselves, then it is indicated in the explanation.

More advanced versions of programs are found on the sites of major tile manufacturers. They allow you to virtually lay out the tile, including friezes and decorative elements, though only from the collections of this plant. The result will not only be the required number of tiles, but also its cost. In any case, going to buy a tile for the bathroom, please specify if there is a service on the manufacturer's website.

For more confidence, the result of the program should be rechecked by manual calculations. If they coincide, you can confidently go for a tile!
