For protection wooden logs from rot and fungus, there are special impregnation antiseptics based on water or oil. They are selected depending on the type of wood from which the logs are made. Modern antiseptic compounds are able to protect wood from destructive factors for up to 35 years. To create a reliable protective layer, process after drilling holes for fasteners, which also fill with the composition.
Used oil is not recommended for processing, as it has a strong odor that may not disappear for several years. Some experts recommend hot transformer oil for these purposes.
To increase the fire-fighting properties, the logs are often additionally impregnated with flame retardants - substances that, when the temperature rises, form a protective film on the surface that prevents a fire.
