Fixing the base

The work on the forging fence begins with arranging a reliable, durable and high-quality foundation. The support will have a columnar-ribbon type. The posts will hold the fence sections, and a continuous concrete strip will take over the weight of the entire structure.

How to make poles?

For the manufacture of supports we use reliable, strong and durable material. The wooden bar is clearly not suitable - it simply can not withstand the weight of the metal sections, and if it survives, then such a design will obviously not be the best way.

Poles can be made of concrete, bricks or metal. Each option has its own characteristics.

Type of supports Description
Metal supports Differ high resistance, durability and long service life. The material is sold at an affordable price, does not need any complicated additional preparation and processing, is easily transported and installed. Supports can have a square or round cross section. The minimum permissible diameter or cross-section of the post is 6 cm. In the rest, we are guided by the dimensions and weight of the future design.
Brick pillars Well tolerated loads created by a variety of heavy and high structures, including our forged fence. First laid out the perimeter of the column of bricks, and after the gap inside the masonry is filled with reinforcement and poured with concrete. Also, the reinforcement is embedded in the masonry. As a result, the fence sections will be attached to these rods.
Concrete supports Withstand the most severe external influences, serve as long as possible and fully harmonize with metal products. However, with all its advantages, concrete racks have a very serious drawback - they can normally withstand loads created by sections up to 150 cm high. When mounting more impressive elements, the support can collapse under its weight.

Most often forged sections are used in conjunction with metal racks. This is the fence we are building. The choice is very successful - you do not have to bother with masonry, formwork, excess concreting and other related activities.

Making the foundation of

The first step. We perform the marking of the site along the perimeter in the place where the fence is installed. By marking the trench with a swarm. The depth and width of the excavation is chosen taking into account a number of factors, including: the characteristics of the soil on the site, the climate in the region, the height of the fencing sections, and so on. Optimal parameters are the width of 30-35 cm and the depth of 70-80 cm.

Trench

Trench

The second step. Along the perimeter of the excavated trench we mark out the places for the installation of racks. The posts are mounted with the same pitch. The average step is 1,5-2 m. In the rest we focus on the dimensions and weight of the fence, as well as the width of sections and the features of the design idea. Racks are digging into the ground by about 35-40 cm. The diameter of the pit should slightly exceed the size of the support. We fall asleep pits for the pillars with a 10-15-cm layer of crushed stone and compact it. Concrete is not poured yet - we will do this when pouring the tape.

The third step. We rammed and leveled the bottom of the pit, and then we fall asleep with a 5-10-centimeter layer of sand. For the best tambour we spill the sand with water.

Fourth step. We perform reinforcement. To do this, we connect the reinforcement with a diameter of 12-14 mm into a grid with 10-cm cells. We use knitting wire to join the rods.

Reinforcement is best done in 3 layers. We put the first grid on the bottom of the trench above the sand layer, the second grid is fixed approximately in the middle of the pit, and the third - practically at the top of the depression. We fasten the nets to the dug-out pillars using a knitting wire. Welding should be avoided.after pouring concrete we will need to level the supports, and the welding seams will not allow this.

Fifth step. We install the formwork along the edges of the excavation. To assemble the formwork, you can use boards, but if you have enough budget, it is better to make a mold from laminated MDF.Using this material will provide a foundation with perfectly even visible edges that do not require additional finishing.

The sixth step. Fill with concrete pit for poles and tape.

Foundation for a fence

The foundation for the fence

The seventh step. Until the concrete has grasped, we place the supports on the level and fix them in the given position with the help of wooden supports. We leave them until the concrete has solidified. This will take 3-4 weeks.

On this reliable and durable basis for our wrought-iron fence is ready. While the concrete is solidifying and gaining strength, we will manufacture sections and decorative elements for the erect fencing.

For the production of all structural elements, a steel rod will be used. But to give the bars the right shape, you will have to buy or take in temporary use special equipment. Which one? We read further.

Bending machine

Bending machine

Such elements are manufactured using a variety of bending machines. Most often, the following types of equipment are used.

  1. "Gnutik".This device allows you to bend the metal rods under the desired radius and the required angles.
  2. "Snail".Such a machine makes it possible to give the rods a spiral shape.
  3. "Template".Bends metal rods in a circle. The possibility of changing the radius of the circle is available.
  4. "Twister".Another unit for twisting the rods in a spiral. You can replace the vice and yew.

You do not need to spend money to buy or rent all of the listed units. Take 1-2 tools( machine tools) and, guided by their capabilities, come up with design sections. Or, you can pick up the tools in accordance with the already approved design - orient yourself on the situation.

For example, an adaptation called "Gnutik" will allow you to create rounded elements and peaks - it's enough to make a forged fence. In this case, the rounded products simultaneously take on the functions of the stiffeners.

Manufacturing and installation of fencing sections

We have smoothly approached the most interesting and important stage of work. We proceed in the following order.

Sketches of forged fences

Sketches

Sketches

The first step. We find a flat horizontal section, capable of freely accommodating at least one section of the fence. You can use a large desktop or you can do everything right on the asphalt.

The second step. With the help of chalk draw on the base of the template section of the fence. Draw the stiffeners, protective parts and decor elements. In accordance with this template, you can also collect all the other sections of the fence.

The third step. With the help of a bending machine or special devices we create the necessary quantity of decor elements for us. In this moment, we focus on the project, drawn up in accordance with our ideas, requirements and preferences. We follow that the shape and dimensions of the products coincide with the template we have drawn. At the same stage, we cut the steel bars to the desired length.

Fourth step. In accordance with the template, we grasp all elements of the section by spot welding. We check the correctness and evenness of the connection of parts. If everything is in order, we finish the welding.

In the same order, we collect the required number of fence sections.

The fifth step. We clean the welded joints, remove corrosion marks when they are detected.

The sixth step. We cover metal products with a primer and a special protective paint. This finish allows you to simultaneously improve the appearance of the fence and ensure its protection against rust.

Seventh step. Mount ready sections. To fix them to the support posts, we use a welding machine or special clamps. Do not forget to leave openings for installing gates and gates, if they have a different design from the fence.
