Before the lining of surfaces by any sheet, tile panels or gypsum board, in most cases a supporting structure( skeleton) of profiles is installed, which also has another name - crate. Traditionally, it was built from wooden rails pre-treated with special compounds. Complexities such work does not represent, but the use of wood has significant drawbacks - the entire "assembly" is characterized by considerable weight, which creates an additional load, and a relatively short operational period, as the material is rotted.
The metal profile, which the modern market offers, does not have these "minuses".However, before you build a crate from it, you need to understand the features of this product. The main mistake of many individual developers who prefer to do all the work themselves is that they believe that the entire profile for drywall is the same, it is only necessary to cut them in length, place them on the surface and fasten them together. But this is not true.
Types of metal profiles
Products are classified according to the function they perform. Their difference is in cross-section and configuration. As a rule, the thickness of the metal and the length of the rails are the same - 0.5 mm and 3 m, respectively. By the way, all the numerical values indicated below will be in "mm".
However, you need to take into account this point - not all Manufacturers of metal profiles adhere to typical sizes. For example, for a thickness, the deviation can be ± 0.1 mm, and the length can be up to 6 m. Products of small manufacturers differ in the most deviations of parameters in one direction or another. Therefore, the data given are only the most common, but they can also be used in the product range.
In addition, the dimensions of the profiles are selected based on the specific installation - the surface area to be cleaned, the dimensions( and thickness) of the drywall sheets and so on. Therefore, it makes sense to specify only those values that characterize the products used for the construction of the crate before finishing the living quarters.
Guide profile( PN / UW)
It is used as a base for the construction of the frame. For example, when erecting a partition. All other elements are attached to it. Mounted around the perimeter of the surface to be trimmed.
40 x( 50, 75, 100).There is also a standard, called "Finnish" - 30 x( 60, 42).
Price - from 116 to 140 rubles / pcs.
Ceiling guide( PNP / UD)
The name itself indicates whether to install on what surface it is intended.
27 x 28 and 17 x 20
Price, respectively, 59 and 38 rubles / pcs.
Rack( PS / CW) wall
Is an element on which the sheet of plasterboard is fixed( its dimensions are described here). It is connected to the guide profile, and they form a supporting structure.
50 x( 50, 75, 100)
The price is from 99 to 182 rubles / pcs.
Ceiling( PP / CD)
Performs the same function as the rack mount, but differs in the fixation method on the base( special type of fasteners is used).
27 x 60 and 17 x 47
Price - 84 and 63 rubles / pcs.

Mouse( AS)
This type of profile is set for leveling surfaces. For example, before their plastering, finishing with materials that are pasted onto the substrate.
22 x( 6, 10);23 x 10
The price is from 20 to 45 rubles per unit.
Corner( PU)
It is used after laying gypsum board, when it is necessary to level the corners, to give them a more aesthetic appearance.
35 x 35, 25 x 25
Price - from 32 to 36 and from 21 to 49 rubles / pcs.respectively.
Practical recommendations for
In some cases, it is not possible to mount a supporting frame:
- if the difference in height on the surface is insignificant and it is possible to mount a drywall on it using the gluing method.
- when the "weighting" after mounting the metal profile is unacceptable or undesirable. The weight of one rail( depending on the parameters) can be on the average from 400 to 950 g.
Such a defect of the base, as an unevenness in certain areas, can be eliminated with putty compounds - read about it here.
In practice, the width of the metal profile and the real one indicated by the manufacturer are somewhat different. The difference is about 1.5 mm, and this must be taken into account.
