Cast iron radiators( heating batteries) as conductors of heat have long been used. They appeared much earlier than other types of radiators( for example, bimetallic ones).Manufacturers today offer a fairly wide range of these products. All of them can have a different number of sections, and therefore, differ in length and width. They are also characterized by a parameter such as the depth of installation. This allows you to choose the right option for cast iron radiators for any room.
Advantages and disadvantages of cast iron radiators
There are two drawbacks to this type of batteries.
First: quite a lot of weight. Whoever had to change the cast-iron batteries would never forget the "pleasure" that he received when they were carried.
Second: limited strength. Such batteries are designed for optimal pressure up to 15 atmospheres, while other types of radiators can withstand high pressures.
Their advantages include:
- "reliability" of the internal surface. Even the "poorest" coolant can not damage such a battery;
- ability to withstand high temperatures;
- high anti-corrosion properties;
- large sizes of internal sections, which practically makes it unnecessary to clean them;
- increased wall thickness. This makes it possible to use products made of cast iron in open systems. Moreover, during the off-season they do not need to be filled with water( if conditions so require);
- increased residual heat transfer. Even after the heating system is turned off, the batteries still give their heat for a long time;
- long service life.
Characteristics of the basic models of cast iron radiators
The main characteristics of models FM( FM 1 - 3) for one section:
- section capacity( in liters) - from 0.66 to 1.38
- section weight( in kg) - from 3.3 to7,0
- height( mm) - from 370 to 570
- width( mm) - from 80 to 90
- depth( mm) - from 70 to 120
There are more powerful varieties of these models. But for residential premises, they are usually not used. For comparison, we give the characteristics of another model.
Main characteristics of the MC-140 model:
- weight( kg) for 4 sections - 28.2
- for 8 sections - 55.8
- capacity( L) for 4 sections - 5.8
- for 8 sections - 11.6
