Almost every construction, restoration or repair uses such universal products as roofing felt. This is a soft roof, and waterproofing. It was( and still is) attractive for any individual developer, which is due not only to its simplicity of laying and low cost.
Perhaps this is not the decreasing popularity of its application due to the fact that not everyone knows - now the market has many other products that can be considered analogues of this material, and significantly superior in its characteristics and having about the same cost. About one of them - a glass insulation - and we'll talk.
Unlike traditional roofing felt, the production technology of which provides for the impregnation of cardboard with bitumen, the base of the glass is different - glass wool or fiberglass( conventional, combined).This also determines some differences in the characteristics of individual varieties of material. Impregnator slightly different - bitumen with additives( for example, synthetic rubber).
Features of the glass insulator
- High strength combined with sufficient elasticity. By the way, it has more fiberglass than glass fiber. Therefore, materials with a "tissue" basis are considered more versatile in application.
- Does not absorb fluids.
- Long term use of products. If you comply with the rules of laying - up to 20 years or more.
- Off.
- Non-rotting.
- Well "holds" the heat and does not miss the sounds.
- Does not lose properties at low temperatures.
- The installation is carried out using the same technology that is used when working with a ruberoid. Strips are laid with mutual overlapping edges( not less than 0.8 cm).Warming up is carried out by a blowtorch or gas burner.
- Possibility of laying on any basis. Weight of 1 roll depends on the variety of material( 25 - 35 kg).
Application Areas
Glass Insulation Roofing
It is clear from the name what this type of product is used for - soft roofing, as one of the layers in the roofing "pie".When choosing a particular product, you should focus on marking. Materials with a fiberglass fabric can be stacked on stingrays with any steepness, while fiberglass has certain restrictions on the angle of inclination. Their thickness is 4 mm.
One side( external) is treated with "sprinkling"( fine or coarse-grained), which acts as a protective layer. First of all, from ultraviolet radiation. On the inside - a film of PE, protecting from the absorption of moisture( vapors).For a soft roof, a linden is also used - read the detailed review of this material.
Glass lining is
This kind of material is designed for waterproofing. The thickness of the canvases is 2 mm, with both sides protected by a polyethylene film. Objects on which to apply:
- artificial reservoirs( swimming pools, garden ponds and the like);
- buried( underground) structures - septic tanks, foundations, cellars, cellars, walls of garages and so on;
- lines of engineering communications;
- all kinds of roofs;
- suspended gardens,
and in a number of other cases.
Marking of glass insulator
First letter( base material)
- T - cloth.
- X - canvas.
The second and third( covering the front and back of the fabric)
- K - powdering.
- P - film.
The figures indicate the weight of the roll in "kg".Approximate cost of glass insulation( rub / m2):
- roofing - from 54( fabric) and 62( canvas)
- lining - from 35( fabric) and 46( canvas).
Useful advices for
- When storing glass, it is necessary to comply with certain requirements:
- rolls are placed only vertically;
- minimum distance to heating appliances - 1 m;
- is not recommended to organize storage of products under the open sky.
- Before laying the canvas on any substrate, it must be treated qualitatively with a primer composition - a bitumen primer( a mixture of 1 hour of bitumen and 3 hours of kerosene).If the old layer is not dismantled, then priming can not be carried out.
- When buying a material you need to take with some margin( about 10%).This is due to the fact that the installation of the paintings is done with "overlapping".In addition, it is worth reading the information on the label. It, in particular, refers to the purpose of this type of product. For example, "for the roof( top layer)."
