Overview of the characteristics of LED lamps

Today I would like to provide the readers of the Electrician's portal with information on what LED lamps are, what their principle of operation is and how they are better than other lighting sources. This topic is relevant because it is the future behind them( diodes), so now we will review the most important technical characteristics of products!

Components of the device

The device, in other words, the design of the LED lamp is represented by the following elements:

  1. plastic light diffuser;
  2. LEDs( usually there are at least 5 of them);
  3. installation board;
  4. aluminum radiator( removes heat);
  5. driver that converts network voltage;
  6. ventilation holes( through which air is circulated, so the driver cools);
  7. cap( is the conductor of an electric current from the network).

It can be seen that inside the light bulb is a rather complicated mechanism whose operation principle differs from alternative light sources. It is because of the driver that is present in the circuit that the lamp can flash when connected to the dimmer. In this case, it is recommended to use special dimmable LED lamps.

Characteristic of

Main technical characteristics of LED lighting lamps:

  • Type of cap. Can be screwed( marking E27, E14) and pin( G19, G13, GU10, etc.).
  • Power consumption - from 3 to 30 watts.
  • Rated voltage 220 V.
  • The luminous flux is from 250 lm to 2500 lm( an average of 100 lm / 1 W).
  • Operating temperature range from -10 to + 40 ° C.
  • The degree of protection( IP index, is taken into account if the LED lamp is installed in rooms with excessive moisture or dust, for example, when installing wiring in a garage and a bath).
  • Color temperature from 2700 to 6400 Kelvin.
  • Service life from 30 to 50 thousand hours.
  • Overall dimensions( length * width * height).
  • Weight( each product is individual).

Types

As such, there are no varieties of LED lamps, which can not be said for halogen lamps. Usually they can be distinguished by the type of socle, the working power and the color of the glow.

About socles we have already mentioned above, considering the technical specifications.

Basic types of socles

We draw your attention to the fact that it is quite difficult for an electrician-novice to learn all types of socles, especially since it is not necessary to do this. If you need to buy a new LED light bulb, it's best to take the old one to the store and show it to the seller.

As for the work power supply , the lamps can operate from 4, 12 and 220 V. The first group is used in the decorative illumination of objects, the last two can be used as general lighting.

Color glow LED lamps can be different: warm light, cold, fluorescent, etc( the difference is shown in the photo below).

Scope of Application

The scope of the LEDs does not know the limits. They can be used wherever possible: in supermarkets, in lighting the interior, for installing street lighting, for decorative lighting of furniture and various architectural objects. Most often, bulbs are used for lighting installation in an apartment and a private house. They have proven themselves well because of the many advantages that we will discuss later.

Advantages of

Finally, we moved on to the most interesting part of the article, in which we consider the pros and cons of LED lamps for the home.

The main advantages are:

  • the highest energy saving( products allow to save 10 times more electricity than incandescent lamps);
  • the highest light output, which reaches a record 120 Lm / 1 W;
  • service life is well over 40,000 hours, which is also the highest;
  • wide range of products in various shapes, colors and sizes;
  • high strength case;
  • does not harm the environment( it does not have inert gases inside the bulb);
  • works at power surges;
  • number of switching on / off does not affect the service life;
  • heating is small( up to 60 degrees Celsius), so you can not be afraid when installing the product next to flammable materials.

Disadvantages of

The main drawback of the LED lamp is its high cost compared to other lighting sources.

Also to cons of products it is possible to carry:

  • the spectrum of a luminescence can negatively influence state of health of the person;
  • light is highly focused, which requires the installation of several LED bulbs for uniform illumination of a small room;
  • for effective and long-term operation it is necessary to purchase expensive radiators, drivers and power supplies;
  • service life indicated on the package does not correspond to the real one( due to the fact that the crystals start to spontaneously go out with time);
  • most products do not work well when connecting a dimmer.

Here you have become acquainted with the technical characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of LED lamps. To finally prove to you that these products are the best among our competitors, we provide several comparison tables:

Also I would like to note that in the world practice, LEDs enjoy leadership in most countries. The exception is Japan, which still gives the advantage to fluorescent lamps. Fit all the pros and cons, we can say that to date, LED lamps in almost all parameters better than other sources of light.
