We make a jigsaw from the sewing machine
Many have inherited from grandmother hand or foot sewing machines. Use them for their intended purpose, no one will be, but it's a pity to throw it away. But from it it is possible to make a fine manual jigsaw for cutting plywood, plastic and balsa. Additional material for the alteration will be only a saw from the electric jigsaw, and all the work will take no more than twenty minutes. The benefit of it will be for all lovers to make by hand. The rework process is as follows:
- The thread weaving mechanism is removed. It is in the lower part and is removed by unscrewing the two bolts;
- The cotter pin is removed and the drive shaft of the threading mechanism is removed;
- The panel, which protects the mechanisms, is loosened, and the slot in which the needle moves is expanded to the size of the saw;
- A file is being prepared. To do this, it is cut off so that the length is the same as that of a needle. The upper teeth are sewn with a file, and the lower part of the file is sewn on the point;
- The blade is inserted into the needle holder.
Note ! If you use an electric machine as a basis, then you can make an electric jigsaw using the same pattern. After this, it is necessary to turn the sewing machine wheel and make sure that the saw does not touch the presser foot and the panel, that the plywood passes freely, that the mechanism is working properly. This completes the alteration. Now you have a self-made jigsaw that is perfectly suitable for most jobs.
Jigsaw with your own hands from the desk
Another option, how to make a jig saw with your own hands is a little more complicated than the previous one, but it's more practical and convenient. To do this, you will need an electric jig saw that will make the work as easy as possible. For the construction of the machine you need: any old desk, electric jigsaw( it will serve as a power unit), manual jigsaw and plywood( for making arcs and bars).
Note! As a power unit, you can use absolutely any model of electric jig saw.
The process begins with the manufacture of a "swing", which at one end will connect to the mechanism of the electric tool, and the other - to keep the saw. The electric jigsaw is fixed under the table cover. A round hole is made in the lid, so that the file is free to walk in it, and dust and shavings are not stuck. The swing is installed above the power tool, and between them is fixed a saw.
One end is attached in a jigsaw, and the second - on a wheel at the end of a swing. The work start pedal is very simple. For this, a product with a hook at one end and a fastener on the other is formed from the metal plate. The hook is put directly to the start button of the tool, and the other end is attached to a wooden plank, which will serve as a pedal.
Buy or make yourself?
Self-made jig saws can be manufactured in a variety of ways and different in design. The most common is the conversion of the electric saw into the machine for work. This is quite simple, its construction is similar to the one described above. But you must always consider what material( thickness, dimensions) will be processed. If it's thick materials, then you need to calculate the workspace so that they fit there. Also this point is important in terms of the choice of the file.
Important! If you are counting on a large amount of work, the homemade machine will be ineffective for you.
Constructions of self-made machine tools exist from the simplest to the most complex ones. The advice that you want to give: do not invent supercomplex mechanisms, because it will take a lot of your time and will require considerable investment, so that the homemade device loses all meaning. If you need a professional, powerful tool, you better buy it right away. And for simple home crafts and simple tasks, it will be enough and the most simple machine.
