How to choose a spray gun for home use?

How does the spray gun work?

The principle of this tool is to apply the composition with an air jet. A jet of compressed air that passes through the nozzle separates the material into small particles and creates a spray. The shape of the applied material, its viscosity, etc. depends on the diameter of the nozzle, that is, on its passageway.

Think about which spray gun to choose better, so that the paint is sprayed better. In the article, we tried to divide by the types of the goods themselves and characterize the parameters to which attention should be paid, already standing at the counter.

How to choose a spray gun - there is something to compare

To date, there are four types of spraying device, the choice of which can affect our comparison of spray guns:

  • Low-pressure spray gun consumes much more air, and this requires a powerful compressor. In addition, you should use a hose with a diameter not less than the hole in the handle. Work at a distance of 15-25 cm from the surface.
  • The high-pressure device version is used for the application of enamels, varnishes and base coatings. It qualitatively applies and disperses materials. Works at high pressure and consumes a small amount of air. The distance to the surface to be coated should be 30-40 cm.
  • The universal spray gun combines the properties of the previous two. It should be noted that low-pressure devices transfer the composition to the surface of the product by 20-30% more efficiently, which means that using such a device, we obtain a good paint economy, so we can stop our choice of the spray gun on this version.
  • The LVLP model is the best type of sprayer. It consumes little air at low pressure during operation. Also has the highest percentage of paint transfer.

Choose a tool for yourself - what to look for?

To make the right choice of spray gun, you need to pay attention to the following:

1. Packaging and appearance. World producers produce their products in plastic suitcases, in which additional accessories can also be included. The body of this equipment should be of aluminum, covered with nickel, which protects the gun from corrosion.

In addition, special attention should be paid to inspecting the hole on the nozzle cover. Quality made of stainless steel, aluminum and brass. It is better to carry out a test of spray guns, that is, to press the trigger to determine the accuracy of the needle in the nozzle.

2. Sealing gaskets. It is very important that all connections are well sealed, especially those operating at low pressure. In addition, most paints in the composition have solvents that can damage the gaskets. The most reliable gaskets are Teflon, but, unfortunately, they are more often used in professional expensive devices. Therefore, before choosing a spray gun, this item should be given due attention.

3. It will also be necessary to determine the location of the barrel for the paint. It is lower and upper. There is no significant difference, just for yourself, evaluate which spray gun is better and more convenient to use. Barrels are made of metal and nylon.

The advantage of the former is that it is easier to wash, but it is not transparent. But the plus of a plastic barrel is that it shows the consumption of the material. Sprays with a lower flank have to be held vertically, so that the tube gets the composition, not air. It is very important before you pick up the spray gun, follow the above tips, then you will get a quality apparatus for applying paint.
