Bulk plaster walls, or simple steps to create a masterpiece

The concept of volumetric plastering

In order to clearly know what the bulk decorative plaster is, it is enough to look at the walls treated with this material and having an inhomogeneous surface with different bumps and potholes. Sometimes, a clear picture is created. For example, the entire wall can "fly" butterflies or "grow" a tree. It all depends on the specific wishes and requirements for design.

This 3d plaster is more suitable for finishing apartments and houses, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, clubs, shopping centers and concert halls. In general, wherever it is necessary to create a truly unusually beautiful interior. Do not be surprised if you go to the next cafe, you will see painted walls with three-dimensional elements( images of angels, cups of tea or flowers). All this is volumetric plaster.

If we talk about the properties of this decorative mixture, it is thin-layered, thick-layered, for facades and interior works. Among the main advantages are: high mechanical strength, ecological purity, resistance to alkali, as well as to washing and abrasion. If it is used for facade works, it is: high frost resistance and resistance to any precipitation.

Application of bulk plaster

So, how to create three-dimensional elements with your own hands? To do this, first prepare the walls for decorative plaster. They are removed from the old and unnecessary coating, eliminate bituminous and grease stains, ground and plaster. Before starting work, they must be clean, dry and even. Next, apply the initial layer of decorative mixture with a total thickness of about 5 mm( or it is called the putty ball).

After that, a special roller for finishing putty is made. Do it yourself. The past coating of the roller is removed( more often the paralon or fabric) and is attached to the axis by a new, self-made paralon coating. The main point that is taken into account in its manufacture is the depth of pores( the higher it is, the more heterogeneous the surface).Often do rollers "puff" or from scraps of material.

After the roller is ready, apply a thin layer of the finish coat. In this case, the putty solution is prepared according to the recipe indicated on the package. But it should look like a creamy mixture. The roller is immersed in the solution and begins to apply the plaster on the wall in the direction from the bottom up. Drawing on the walls is exactly the same as the roller was made.

That is, the protuberances and hillocks on the surface correspond to the indentations on the roller. Also, there will be a certain tendency to repeat the picture. It is important to know one more thing when applying. In no case can you over-press the roller, as in this case the texture( convexity) does not appear. Movements should be easy and sliding. After the surface dries, some elements are sometimes painted with acrylic paint.

How to make stencil plaster?

If you want to create on the walls not just imitation of a particular surface, but real images in the form of butterflies, dragonflies, leaves, flowers, then you will need a stencil and some tools( paint tape, aerosol glue, roller, paint, spatula). The plaster is used uniform or fine-grained. Drawings of bulk plaster are made using the following technology:

  • With adhesive or adhesive tape, a stencil is attached to the wall.
  • A spatula is applied over it with a spatula.
  • Gently remove the stencil at a time when the mixture is not yet completely dried, but managed to grasp.
  • The stencil is thoroughly cleaned.
  • At the last stage, the 3D drawing can be painted.
